Abstract

This research is motivated by the live streaming phenomenon which is currently widely used by social media users. The live streaming application that is now popular in Indonesia is Uplive. Uplive is one of the best applications that can easily broadcast live events or content as well as the opportunity to earn income by becoming a host or broadcaster on the application. During the live streaming, a host can interact with viewers via live chat in the Uplive application. The purpose of this study is that researchers want to know the meaning of interaction for hosts and viewers during live streaming on the Uplive application. The method used in this research is using qualitative research methods. This research data is in the form of data from interviews with the hosts of the Uplive application and the audience. The results of the study show that the interactions carried out when the host is broadcasting live are not only limited to commenting via live chat, but the audience can also give virtual gifts such as diamonds which can then be exchanged for money. Live streaming interaction for hosts on Uplive is very important because an interaction that exists between the host and viewer can increase user engagement with the host itself. In increasing user engagement, a host must have good communication skills and present good and quality impressions. Keyword: application, host, interaction, live streaming, uplive, viewer

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify and describe the barriers to interpersonal communication of people with HIV/AIDS in social interactions in the community. The method in this study used qualitative research methods. This research used the Symbolic Interaction Theory, the study of meaning in one's interactions. The researcher used informants based on the purposive sampling technique. The results of this study indicated that the barriers to interpersonal communication of people with HIV/AIDS in social interactions in the community are influenced by three factors: psychological barriers, mindset barriers, and cultural barriers. The existence of these three factors underlies the occurrence of bad stigma or discrimination against people with HIV/AIDS. People with HIV/AIDS in the communication process are conscious and reflective actors who unite objects they know through what they call self-identification. This means that the process of interpersonal communication has been running so far where a person with HIV/AIDS knows something, evaluates it, gives meaning and gives action in a social context.

Abstract

Society basically consists of various cultural backgrounds, these differences tend to be prone to conflict. This requires efforts to minimize the emergence of these conflicts by maintaining relationships in the community through communication, thereby strengthening social interaction in society and will later become a forum for forming harmony. Dusun Curup Village is an area inhabited by one of two different cultures, where each group is able to maintain harmony in daily life. The two cultures are the original ethnic group, namely the Rejang Tribe and the immigrant ethnic group, namely the Batak tribe. The theoretical basis in this study is accommodation communication theory and uses communication patterns consisting of primary, secondary, linear and circular. This research was conducted using descriptive research methods using a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques in this study used two ways, namely primary data collection techniques with interview and observation techniques while secondary data collection techniques with supporting documents and literature, in addition to Miles and Huberman data analysis techniques and data validity tests, namely triangulation. The results of the study explain that in the community of the two different ethnicities, forming a circular communication pattern in communicating, the formation of this pattern is seen from the majority of daily activities which are more dominant in circular, the interaction that takes place is Dusun/bese coul language. This can be seen based on the approach using specific convergence, divergence, and maintenance, in addition to that, the real forms of harmony that exist are (1) Social aspects, which are formed from social order that is carried out in collaboration, one of which is negligent and sluggish. (2) The cultural aspect, which is manifested through an attitude of openness through mixed marriages so that each ethnic group can mingle and understand each other.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has been around for a very long time. Detected in December 2012 in Wuhan and entered Indonesia in March 2019, many things must be totally changed in social life. One of the hardest hit areas is education. Changes in behavior in carrying out education are felt to be difficult for all students, especially in Indonesia. This study reveals the effectiveness of interpersonal communication on student satisfaction in face-to-face learning activities in the Pandemic Era for students of FISIP UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. Researchers use Social Presence Theory to determine the effectiveness of interpersonal communication in face-to-face learning in the Pandemic era. Students who carry out face-to-face activities feel an increased affective association, instructor investment, knowledge and experience, interaction intensity, and community cohesion. In the five indicators in the Social Presence Theory, it is known that students of Fisip UIN Raden Fatah Palembang feel that learning activities are more effective and fun than online learning methods. This study shows that face-to-face learning activities should not be eliminated, because humans need interaction in socializing in order to grow the same desires and goals. Online learning is not a bad thing, and it really helps learning, but in the context of learning, internet connection and assistance from sharing media and sophisticated communication tools cannot be separated from learning activities done face to face.
