Abstract

Abstract: Based on data from Port Health Offi ce Class I Surabaya in 2012, 42 (1.66%) of 2.521 ship that were inspected was found vectors. Sanitation assessment data were found cockroach in July 2015, 9 (4.20%) of 214 ships, in August 15 (8.02%) of 187 ships, and in September 16 (8.88%) of 180 ships. Meanwhile Kepmenkes 431/2007 states that all water transportation have to be clean from vector and rodent. The objective of this study was to analyze correlation between ship sanitation and cockroach density. The design of this study was cross sectional. Samples was 30 ship that were docked at Port of Tanjung Perak Surabaya in October 2015. Sampling method was using accidental sampling. Data were obtained by questionnaire and observation Data were analyzed with Spearman correlation test. The result showed that 40.00% had high risk of health disorder and 91.67% of 40.00% was found high cockroach density There was a signifi cant correlation between ships sanitation and cockroach density. Not only all bins were not equipped with lid and water resistant materials but also poor personal hygiene of food handlers. It can be concluded that there was a correlation between ship sanitation and cockroach density. It is suggested to improve and maintain ship sanitation by equipping all of bins with lid and water resistant material and by increasing the personal hygiene of food handlers.Keywords: vessel sanitation, cockroach density, motor vessel

Abstract

Introduction: Pneumonia leads to inflammation of the lungs which causes by microorganisms such as parasites, bacteria, viruses, and fungi. This research was conducted to describe the strong correlation between the achievement of healthy household and complete basic immunization with toddler pneumonia cases in Jember Regency in 2016. Method: A secondary data analysis, this research applied correlation research design. The data was obtained from the Health Profile of Jember Regency in 2016 in the form of data on cases of toddler pneumonia, data on healthy household and complete basic immunization. The variables studied were the achievement of a healthy household and complete basic immunization as the dependent variable and cases of toddler pneumonia at every local health center in all sub-districts in Jember Regency as an independent variable. The data collected were then analyzed using the Pearson correlation test. Result and Discussion: A secondary data analysis, this research applied correlation research design. There was also a strong correlation found between the achievement of healthy household and complete basic immunization with cases of toddler with pneumonia in Jember Regency. Supervision of healthy household by the local government needs to be improved. The role of family, the surrounding environment, and the local government on the importance of providing complete basic immunizations for toddlers in the community also must be improved.

Abstract

The quality of wastewater sugar factory produced will affect the environmental health quality around the factory. The study aimed to analyze the quality of water river and the quality of wells around the Rejo Agung Baru sugar factory in the Madiun. This study is an descriptive observational. The samples comprised of 5 sampels of water rivers and 7 samples of well water. The results of the study at the quality of water river showed that there are parameters (BOD5 and temperature) unqualified with the quality standards based on the East Java Regional Regulation No. 2 of 2008 about Water Quality Management and Water Pollution Control in the East Java, the quality of water river is also affected by the waste water, trash, agricultural waste, and other pollutants. The result of measuring the quality of water well showed that there are parameters (organic substance) unqualified with quality standards based on Permenkes No: 416/Menkes/PER/ IX/1990 about the Terms and Water Quality Monitoring, the quality of Well water is also affected by the quality of water river, a distance of toilet, domestic wastewater and other pollutants. The quality of water river and the quality of well water have decreased that required supervision on the quality of a river water and the quality of water of a well.

Abstract

Introduction: Since the COVID-19 or novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) happened in December 2019, the number of cases has been rapidly increasing. To reducing the speed of infection, nations around the world have been doing movement control order (MCO) to their city for some time. The evidence shows that MCO can help many countries controlling the pandemic. The other effects of MCO is a change in air quality and gas emissions. The current study made for collecting evidence of how MCO affect air quality and gas emissions in several areas. This study aimed to explore if there are any positive and negative effects of movement control order (MCO) to air quality and gas emissions of areas that doing so. Discussion: During the movement control order (MCO) period, human outdoor activities have significantly reduced, affecting industrial operations reduction significantly, transportations, and other activities like constructions that leads to reduction of emissions. But there is increase of O3 and indoor pollution because of household activities increase. Many countries show that there are changes in air quality because of changes in human behaviour during movement control order. Conclusion: Current Studies concludes that the COVID-19 pandemic brings changes in air quality and emissions, as MCO, quarantine, and lighter traffic affect to better air quality outdoor, but, there is also increase of indoor pollutions. It is recommended that human should to maintain air quality by making reduction of unnecessary activities that make air quality worse.

Abstract

The increasing number of hospital, increases medical waste in Indonesia. Medical waste is categorized as hazardous and toxic waste as mentioned in Appendix I of Government Regulation number 101 in 2014. The hazardous and toxic waste management in hospital is necessary because if  it is not managed properly can cause injury, environmental pollution, and nosocomial disease. Hazardous and toxic hospital waste management can minimize the effect of it. The purpose of this study was to identify the flow of hazardous and toxic waste management in RSUD Dr. Soetomo according to the regulations. The research type was descriptive observational using secondary data from the installation of environmental sanitation. Data was compared to the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P.56 in 2015 about Technical Procedures and Technical Requirements for the Hazardous and Toxic Waste' s Management from Health Service Facilities. The results showed that the management of hazardous and toxic waste in RSUD Dr. Soetomo was fulfill the requirements in the regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry No. P.56 of 2015 from the reduction and segregation, storage, transportation and treatment of hazardous and toxic waste.

Abstract

Aviation is the most significant part of Indonesian Air Force duty. Air Force's aircraft takes a role not only as Indonesian army agency transportation vehicle but also crucial for Indonesian air territory security protection. However the level of noises resulted from Air Force aviation operation activity such as take off of aircraft reached 130 dBA, so the operation can causes auditory and non auditory adverse effects such as communication, physiological disorder, and psycological disorder. The aim of this study  is to analyze factors induced to the hearing loss and analyze the effects of aircraft noises to technician health complaints. This research using case control approach and it was conducted by recruiting subject respondents group randomly of 20 officers includes of 10 technician as study group and 10 non technician as control group. The measurement of aircraft noise level was performed 4 times during 8 hours used Sound Level Meter. The results of aircraft noise measurement in flightline area was exceeding the threshold value of 95,56 dBA. The results of the study shows that aircraft noise significantly associated with to technician hearing loss p-value=0,026 (Spearman correlation test, p<0,05). Other factors that are associated significantly with technician hearing loss include aged p-value=0,023 (Pearson correlation test,  p<0,05). Insignificant association is showed for work period with p-value=0,038 (spearman correlation test, p<0,05). In addition, the aircraft noise is associated to health complaint as psychological disorder p-value=0,033 (simple logistic regression test, p-value <0,05). The conclusion of research is that aircraft activities affected hearing loss and technician psychological disorder.

Abstract

Abstract:  Emissions of dust  particles  (baggase and  charcoal)  into the  air by a sugar  factory  in the  production was pollution  to the  environment that need to be  watched. These pollutants  materials  get  into the  house through vents or open doors.  The  purpose of this research was  to describe the  risk factor of environmental health  relation to the amount  of risk exposure PM2,5, the community behaviour  and  home condition. This research is descriptive research with cross sectional design and  the number of samples 14 housewife. Data was  collected is PM2,5  levels  in a room (analyzed with environmental health risk assessment), weight,  behavior  of respondents and the condition of the house. The results  showed there were  3 people respondents at risk of unsafe exposure to PM2,5  weight  and concentration by long in the home 24 hours/day and exposure of 350 days/year for 30 years. Risk factors of behavior related to the habit of smoking family members and the use  of insect repellent fuel, while environmental factors  (condition of the house) was temperature, humidity and the distance of the house from the sugar factory. Concluded that the respondents have a risk of unsafe exposure to PM2,5  was  the respondent with a distance of home < 300 meters, have  family members who smoke, use insect repellent  and fuel temperature and humidity  were  not eligible. Required increased awareness of family members of the respondents not to smoke in the house, do  not use  insect repellent  and  maximize existin ventilation function.Keywords: Environmental  Health Risk Assessment, PM2,5, behavior  community, home condition, sugar factor

Abstract

The process of spoilage of waste in the landfill produces air pollutant gases such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) which was a colorless gas, highly flammable, and has a characteristic rotten egg odor. Communities around TPA who were continuously exposed to H2S gas has very at risk of experiencing health problems. The main entrance of H2S gas through the respiratory system so that it was quickly absorbed by the lungs rather than exposure through the mouth. This study aims to analyze the great health risks arising from exposure to hydrogen sulfide gas at the Cibeureum landfill in Banjar City. This research was a descriptive-analytic type with cross-sectional study design and it was analyzed with an environmental health risk assessment (EHRA) approach. The results of H2S concentration measurements were 0,004 ppm and still below the 0,02 ppm standard. Exposure projections indicate that people in the surrounding areas do not yet have non-carcinogenic risks (0,42≤1). The safe duration of exposure is 24 years. If residents still live around the landfill for more than 24 years, it will endanger them and cause non-carcinogenic health risks. Complaints caused by civilians around the landfill consist of coughing, headaches, colds, shortness of breath, chest pain, and sore throat.

Abstract

Sanitary inspection intended to eliminate environmental risk factors in the ships to break the chain disease transmission in order to maintain and enhance the health status. Based on data from 2015 the Port Health Office class I Surabaya, during the ships inspection there are found 23 rats from 2734 ships. The existence of the rats on the cargo ship is very harmful, which can caused disease and damaged food material in cargo ship. The tendency of rats existence on board as media transmission of the disease, is the reason for researchers to identify the level of sanitation review and behavior of crew that affecting the existence of rats on cargo ship in the Port of Tanjung Perak Surabaya. That research aimed to analyze the level of sanitation and behavior of crew that affects the existence of rats. This study was an observational study with cross sectional study design, sampling for ship sanitation in research using accidental sampling, behavior of crew using the proportional random sampling method. The research variables are behavior of crew and ship sanitation. The primary data were collected by observation, indepth interviews, and questionnaires. Secondary data collected from the Port Health Office Class I Surabaya. Statistical test with multiple regression showed that behavior of crew significant effect on the existence of rat in cargo ship. The results using ship sanitation level variables sig. 0.043 means that the behavior of crew variable significant effect on the presence of rats on a cargo ship, while for the ship sanitation variables sig. 0.0002, means that the variable ship sanitation very significantly affected on the presence of rats on a cargo ship. The conclusion of this study be found influences of the ship sanitation and behavior of crew against the presence of rats in cargo ship, so it needs to be disseminated to the crew of cargo ship in order to increase knowledge about ship sanitation, and the health effects of the presence of rats on a cargo ship.

Abstract

Introduction: WHO has announced coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid19) as a global pandemic at the immune decline, one of which is due to chronic exposure to ambient air pollution. This literature review aims to describe the impact of ambient air pollution toward the risk of being infected by Covid19. Discussion: Covid19 can be found in a bat (host primer), and can be contagious through a person, also possible from pets. The symptoms that sufferers will perceive are fever, cough, diarrhea, myalgia, fatigue, headache, nausea, vomit, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and some asymptomatic people. The body's immunity affects a person's susceptibility to Covid19 infection. The body's immunity can be affected by ambient air pollution (with PM10, PM2,5, and O3 are the most pollutant in the air in various countries) for an extended period could be the reason for chronic illness (especially, respiratory tract) could reduce immune resistance. Furthermore, it might be happened on increasing at ACE2 activity and can cause increasing infected by Covid19. Prevention action can be done by contributing from all of the sectors at an observance in guarding, physical distancing, quarantine, and maintaining the ambient air quality in the future. Conclusion: Ambient air pollution must be considered as one effort to prevent chronic illness that can reduce immunity, which can increase the risk of being infected with Covid19. Furthermore, future studies will be carried out on ACE2 activity in people infected with Covid19 in order to get more valid results and following current conditions.
