Abstract

This study examines the communicative role of religious leaders in mediating the relationship between Islamic values and local cultural practices within the Begawe tradition of the Sasak community in Lombok. Existing scholarship on religious authority and local wisdom has largely overlooked the discursive mechanisms through which socio religious meanings are negotiated in communal ritual contexts therefore, this study aims to address this gap by analysing how religious narratives are constructed and strategically communicated. Employing a qualitative design grounded in critical discourse analysis, data were collected through in depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving five key informants representing religious, customary, and community leadership. The findings reveal that religious leaders function as cultural brokers who articulate adaptive Islamic discourses by integrating scriptural references, symbolic ritual language, and moral exhortations that legitimise tradition while responding to ongoing socio religious transformations. This mediation process fosters social cohesion and reinforces collective identity, yet also reflects contestations shaped by modernisation and differing Islamic orientations, particularly between Aswaja and Salafi groups. Overall, the study contributes to communication studies and the anthropology of religion by conceptualising local religious discourse as a dynamic cultural strategy for negotiating continuity and change in contemporary Muslim societies.

Abstract

This study examines the codicological characteristics of two ancient Qur'anic manuscripts, A47 from Terengganu and A694 from Aceh, which are part of the collection of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (PNRI). Using a qualitative approach with descriptive-analytical methods, this research analyzes the physical aspects of the manuscripts including calligraphy, illumination, paper type, binding techniques, and additional texts, as well as textual aspects covering rasm, qira'at, dhabt, tajwid, and waqf signs. The results show that both manuscripts reflect a unique synthesis between Islamic traditions and local cultures. Manuscript A47 displays complex geometric patterns with gold color dominance, reflecting the aesthetics of Terengganu, while A694 shows minimalist floral illuminations with dominant red and black colors, characteristic of Acehnese culture. Textual analysis reveals variations in rasm and qira'at, with A694 tending to be more conservative in Rasm Uthmani and following certain qira'at such as Ibn Amir and Hamzah, while A47 is more accommodative to isbat alif and follows the majority qira'at of 'Asim via Hafs. This study concludes that these manuscripts are not only religious texts but also cultural artifacts that reflect the dynamics of transmission and adaptation of the Qur'anic text according to the needs of Muslim communities in Terengganu and Aceh, as well as contributing to the understanding of the history of Islamic civilization in the Archipelago.

Abstract

This study addresses stunting as a multidimensional community development issue that requires collaborative efforts at the grassroots level. Stunting, caused by chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections during the first 1,000 days of life, remains a significant challenge in Indonesia. Strengthening the capacity of community-based actors such as PAUD teachers and Posyandu cadres is essential for early detection and prevention. However, their limited knowledge of early screening practices hinders effective intervention. This study aims to analyze and compare the capacity improvement of PAUD teachers and Posyandu cadres through community-based SDIDTK telenursing training. A quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design was employed. The sample consisted of active PAUD teachers and Posyandu cadres selected through purposive sampling, all of whom had access to digital devices for training. Data were analyzed using independent sample t-tests. The results showed no statistically significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.874). However, both groups experienced an increase in knowledge after the training. These findings indicate that SDIDTK telenursing training is effective as a community-based capacity-building approach and can equally empower different community actors in supporting early stunting detection.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the da'wah strategies implemented by the Majelis Taklim Darusshofa Medan to increase congregational participation in routine religious study activities. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation studies involving administrators, preachers, and congregational members. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to identify key patterns and themes. Using descriptive qualitative methods, data collection was carried out through participatory observation, documentation studies, and in-depth interviews with 15 informants consisting of assembly administrators, preachers, and active and passive congregations in order to obtain a comprehensive perspective. The results indicate that effective da'wah strategies include personal and community approaches, innovative study programs, and the use of digital technology as a means of disseminating information. These strategies contribute to increased awareness, motivation, and sustained congregational participation in routine religious study activities. This study emphasizes the importance of adaptive da'wah practices oriented to community needs in strengthening religious engagement within the majelis taklim environment. The success of increasing congregational participation was driven by the integration of contextual da'wah strategies that combine a bil-hikmah (persuasive) approach with the use of digital media as a means of dissemination and coordination. These findings provide practical contributions for da'wah institution managers in mapping the needs of urban congregations, while also providing theoretical insights into the effectiveness of persuasive communication in strengthening socio-religious cohesion in urban environments.
