Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) to identify the students reading comprehension skill at SMP 2 Tanon, (2) to depict the obstacles in learning reading comprehension of the students of SMP 2 Tanon, and (3) to describe the implementation of CIRC method in improving students reading comprehension skill at SMP N 2 Tanon. This research is conducted under Class Action Research design with two cycles in the first semester term 2010/2011. The subjects of this research are the IXth C graders. Data collecting techniques are observation, interview and documentation, which are then analyzed under qualitative method. The results of the analysis shows that CIRC method is sufficiently effective to improve students achievement in reading comprehension. The indicators are: (1) the students achievement develops significantly, (2) the learining activities become more interactive, which can be seen through the warm discussion conducted in classes, where students share ideas within and among groups (3) the teacher controls the whole learning process intesively. Abstract

The goals of research were (1) to findings the difference between the students’ appreciation of prose fiction ability taught by experiential learning, synectic, and direct instruction learning model, (2) to findings the difference of prose fiction ability for students who have high and low emotional quotient, (3) to findings an interaction between the use of learning model and emotional quotient affecting prose fiction appreciation.The research applies quasi experimental method and 3 x 2 factorial research design. The technique of collecting data made use questionnaires for measuring students’ emotional quotient and test for measuring the prose fiction ability. Validity test consists of content validity, surface validity, and empirical test for searching distinction value, the grade of exercise difficulties, and the reliability. For the questionnaires, empirical wasapplied to recognize the validity and reliability.The normality test used the method of Kolmogrov-Smirnov. The homogenitytest used the method of Levene’s test of equality of error variances. Data analysis uses Anava factor two by SPSS computer program. The inferential analysis revealedthe conclusion as follows: (1) There is a difference in those students who have been taught by experiential learning, synectic, and behavioristic learning model. The students’ average ability in appreciating prose fiction taught by experiential learning model is higher than those taught by synectic learning model. The students’ ability of prose fiction appreciation taught by synectic learning model is higher than those taught by behavioristic learning model. (2) There is a significant difference in students’ ability in appreciating prose fiction. The students who have high emotional quotient are able to appreciate prose fiction better than those who have low emotional quotient. The ability of prose fiction appreciation belongs to high emotional quotient students is higher than those who have less.  (3) There is an interaction between the use of learning model and emotional quotient in affecting students’ appreciation of prose fiction ability. Kata Kunci: Komparasi Experiential Learning, Sinektik, Pengajaran Langsung, Kecerdasan Emosional, dan Kemampuan Apresiasi Prosa Fiksi

Abstract

Learning is a teaching learning process through the creation of comfortable and effective learning environment. In general, contextual learning is considered as a concept which helps teachers relate the content of the learning material to the real situation and drive students to make some relationship between the working knowledge and its application in their lives as family as well as society members. This research is aimed at (1) describing that the result of IPS learning through CTL with the best benefit of environment as the learning source is better than conventional learning, (2) describing that students response toward CTL leaning with the best benefit of environment as the learning source is better than conventional learning, (3) describing the existing constraints when the learning through CTL is at work. The research design is of experimental feature with two group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this research cover forty four-year students of State Elementary School 01 Kartoharjo Madiun each for experimental group or class and control group or class. The research instruments used to collect the data include questionnaire, learning test, and observation sheet. Based upon the result of the analysis it is found that (1) the learning result of the students joining the CTL learning activities is better when compared with that of those joining the conventional learning. The mean of the experimental class after the treatment of CTL learning is 83 while the mean of the control class with conventional learning is 62.68; (2) the students’ response towards the implementation of CTL learning is generally positive, (3) the existing constraints are due to the fact that the learning facilities and time allotment are limited and the number of the students is too big. The conclusion is that the research using CTL learning indicates better learning result and better students’ response than that of conventional learning.Key Words: CTL Approach, Environment, IPS Learning Source

Abstract

Affective variable is regarded essential in teaching process. The learners’s attitude against learning process, for example, can significantly influence their achievement. Values which students nurture about truth and integrity will be consequently reflected in their daily conducts. Students’ appreciation against anything will affect everything they do. It is then critical for teachers to design affective assessment.Realities shows that very view of teachers have been willing to seriously design the nurturing model of students’ affection in learning. Teachers should realize when their students become awfully depressed against the learning process because of one and other things. Unfortunately, it is veru rarely heard that teachers systematically make a record on the students’ affection.This article discusses some aspects related to students’ affection against the learning process, and then serves practical procedures, step-by-step to make a record on the students affection in relation to values and attitudes which are critical in learning process. Keywords: Affective assessment, instruction

Abstract

In line with the development of technology, translation technic has developed significantly in terms of the utility of translation machine, like that in Google translation. This technique is now being commonly used by people from all education levels. This phenomenon attracts the researcher to identify the quality of the results of translation machine. Translation is basically a process of transfering massage from one language to another, both the meaning and the language corpus. A translator has to cope not only with the source and target language systems but also the discipline in question. This research applies qualitative method studying on verbal materials in the forms of words, phrases, sentences and even paragraphs. The researcher makes use of articles from verious disciplines, like economy, technology, sosial and health as the source of data. The analysis shows that the translation texts resulted from translation machine are significantly defective in carrying out meanings in the level of words, phrases and sentences; which come with the different contexts. In spite of the inappropriateness in translation results, the translation machine is still helpful to some extents.Keywords: translation, translation machine
