Abstract

The poor compatibility between Polylactic Acid (PLA) and Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE), which has a different polarity, has decreased its mechanical and physical properties. Availability of Linear Low-Density Polyethylene grafting Oleic Acid (LLDPE-g-OA) compatibilizer and Organo-Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (O-PCC) filler in the PLA/LLDPE blends can improve the quality of the mechanical and physical properties of the polymer blends. This study aims to determine the influence of O-PCC as filler in the PLA/LLDPE blends with the existence of the LLDPE-g-AO compatibilizer to improve its mechanical and physical properties and compare the results with Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) filler. This polymer composite was made via a blending method with a solvent system, where PLA was dissolved in chloroform while LLDPE and LLDPE-g-AO were dissolved in xylene. After they were dissolved, glycerol 1% was added, followed by the addition of O-PCC variations. This research shows that the higher the filler concentration, the lower the water absorption percentage, where the optimum results are obtained for the PLA/LLDPE/LLDPE-g-AO/O-PCC composites variation of (69.5:19.5:10). :1) with a tensile strength of 22.629 MPa with a water absorption percentage of 45.36%. Abstract

Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) is a tool or device that can convert light energy into electrical energy. Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) is a solar cell consisting of a pair of glass electrodes, namely the working electrode and the counter electrode flanking the electrolyte. The working electrode is composed of TCO (Transparent Conducting Oxide) glass which is then coated with TiO2 and a dye containing anthocyanins as a charge carrier photosensitizer. The counter electrode is composed of TCO glass coated with carbon which is used as a catalyst to accelerate the redox reaction with the electrolyte. Anthocyanins can absorb photon energy at a distance of about 520-550 nm. Dye will excitate due to absorption of photon energy. The more dye attached, it will produce more photoelectrons where the size of the TiO2 semiconductor affects the dye attached or attached during the coloring process. Natural anthocyanins can be obtained from plant materials such as the crown of the gods, dragon fruit, red cabbage, purple sweet potato and buni fruit. Natural dye is an alternative that is non-toxic, renewable and easily degraded so that it is friendly to the environment. The results of the efficiency of the DSSC using natural anthocyanins showed good results, namely 0.38%. so it can be concluded that anthocyanins from natural dyes can be used in the manufacture of DSSC. Abstract

Stevia leaves (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) is a plant that commonly used as a natural sweetener to replace sugar. According to research, stevia has many health benefits and one of them is antidiabetic. The aims of this research are to determine the activity of the ethyl acetate extract of stevia leaves (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) as an inhibitor of -glucosidase enzyme. The stages on this research include extraction with 96% ethanol solvent, then the ethanolic extract was partitioned with ethyl acetate – water = 1:1. Isolation and purification of the ethyl acetate extract was carried out by column chromatography (SiO2; i). n-hexane – etil acetate = 10 : 1 ~ 1 : 1 ii). n-hexane – etil acetate = 20:1 which was guided by testing the inhibitory activity of α-glucosidase enzyme by in vitro studies. The results showed that the STEA-1.1 fraction had the best activity with IC50 value 39,55 ± 0,51 ppm compared to the partitioned ethyl acetate extract with an IC50 value 43,47 ± 0,05 ppm, while the acarbose had an IC50 value 19,24 ± 0,03 ppm. Abstract

Silver nanoparticles are particles composed of silver oxide with a size of 1-100 nm that can be made by the bottom-up method through the reduction of Ag+ ions with the addition of a bioreductors and ultrasonic waves. Green Synthesis is currently very popular in the fields of science, technology and industry because it is more environmentally friendly. The use of ultrasonic waves in this synthesis can help to time-efficient and increase the reaction rate. Thus, the purpose of this review is to determine the characteristics of nanoparticles synthesized using ultrasonic waves based on UV-Vis and TEM spectroscopic data. The results of the literature show that the factors that affect the stability of the nanoparticles include the molar concentration of AgNO3, the volume of the extract, the stabilizing agent and the reaction time. The change of Ag+ to Ag0 was shown qualitatively by changing the color of the solution from clear/light yellow to brown. Wavelength values of typical nanoparticles appear at 420-440 nm. In the presence of ultrasonic waves it can produce AgNPs sizes between 8 - 33.8 nm and spherical and uniform nanoparticle shapes

Abstract

This study aims to describe the teacher's need for android-based chemistry learning media that can support the chemistry learning process in the classroom. The needs analysis is carried out based on the first stage of the ADDIE model, namely (analyst) or analysis. The method used in this research is a survey method. The participants of this study were 10 chemistry teachers from schools in Binjai City and Langkat Regency. Data was collected using a questionnaire with qualitative data types. The questionnaire was distributed using a google form so that respondents could fill out the questionnaire online. The results of the study were analyzed descriptively and obtained data that the media that teachers often use such as projectors, PPT/LCD with a percentage of 80%, while android-based chemistry learning media are still very rarely used. The obstacle is the manufacture, use and development of media which is quite difficult so that teachers feel less interested in making media and lack of ideas on what media is good for chemistry learning. So they suggest that tutorials are given in the creation and use of learning media. Keywords: needs analysis, learning media, chemistry

Abstract

A pyrolysis study of a bagasse using a pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) instrument was carried out. This research was conducted to determine the chemical and physical characteristics of bagasse and to determine the chemical composition of the pyrolysis products of bagasse. Pyrolysis of biomass were carried out at three temperatures, namely 350°C, 450°C and 550°C. Bagasse had a moisture content of 12 ± 0.004%, ash content 2.43 ± 0.001%, cellulose content 58%, lignin content 11 ± 0.02% and 10% hemicellulose content. Based on the percent product area in the pyrogram, bagasse pyrolysis products contained lignin derivative products (16-23%) and cellulose/hemicellulose derivative products 61-66%. Abstract

Analysis of mercury (Hg) levels in river water using the cold vapor-atomic absorption spectrophotometry (CV-AAS) method has been carried out. The basic principle of determining Hg in several river water samples is carried out by means of Hg2+ ions being reduced by reductants Sn2+ into gaseous Hg0 atoms, and then the Hg0 atomic vapors were analyzed quantitatively by the CV-AAS method at a wavelength of 253.7 nm. The analytical performance of the measurements obtained was very good, indicated by the linearity value (r) = 0.991, the Quality Control (QC) value) Hg is below the standard, which is 10%, and the results of mesurement of Hg levels in water samples around range concentration was -1.0305 sampai -0.7328 ppb. These results indicate that the Hg level in river water, according to Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021 concerning Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management, is below the threshold of the quality standard. Abstract

Nipah (Nypa fruticans Wurmb.) is one of the plant family Arecaceae were known an used by society as a diabetes medicine, toothache, sprue and headaches. The aims of this research are to know the group of compound that containing in the extract of nipah’s leaf (Nypa fruticans Wurmb.) and determine the level of toxicity to the Artemia salina Linn. Color test and Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method were use for phytochemical screening and determine toxicity, respectively. The result of phytochemical screening indicate that crude extract of nipah’s leaf contains secondary metabolites of flavonoids, phenolics, saponins and steroids. The result of the toxicity test indicate that crude extract of nipah’s leaf with the LC50 20.89 ppm was very strong. Keywords: Nipah’s leaf, phytochemical and toxicity

Abstract

Introduction: Nosocomial infections are one of the causes of high morbidity and mortality rates in the world, both in developed and developing countries (Kusumayanti, 2017). The prevalence of nosocomial infections in Southeast Asia is 10.0%, the European region is 7.7%, the Western Pacific is 9.0% and the Middle East is 11.8% (WHO, 2013). Objectives: this study was to determine the results of the flavonoid test of Curcuma longa as an antibacterial compound of Staphylococcus aureus and to determine the results of the inhibitory test of white turmeric and yellow turmeric in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Methods: This type of research is experimental with a pre-experimental research design (one shot case study). The sampling technique used in this research is total sampling. Results: the phytochemical screening test of white and yellow turmeric showed that both turmeric contained flavonoids which were indicated by the formation of a green color in the filtrate. The diameter of the inhibition zone of white turmeric (Curcuma zedoria) was 0.05 and yellow turmeric (Curcuma longa) was 0.7 against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Conclusion:Yellow turmeric (Curcuma longa) and white turmeric (Curcuma zedoria) extracts contain flavonoids and have the ability to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria more than white turmeric (Curcuma zedoria) juice. Abstract

Research on comparative study of metal ion adsorption on AF, and -AF has been carried out. The initial stage is the extraction of AF from the peat soil of the Samboja area of ​​East Kalimantan. Extraction was carried out with 1 M NaOH and 12 M HCl solution. The second stage was the preparation of dan -AF by coprecipitation method. The next step is the comparison test of AF adsorption, and -AF against metal ions. The results showed that -AF had 4 times greater adsorption ability than and AF in adsorption of metal ions that is equal to 8.4563 mg/g. This is because AF has a high affinity for particles and is able to increase the stability of Nano dispersion of by preventing their aggregation so that -AF is more dispersed and more stable. -AF also has a smaller size compared to AF and Fe3O4.
