Abstract

This study on composting time analysis and determining the optimum time based on pH conditions, temperature and humidity of soybean peel and string bean compost and determining the optimum variation of EM4 bioactivators to total magnesium (Mg) and manganese (Mn) levels has been carried out. The study consisted of making compost in takakura baskets, measuring the pH, temperature and humidity of the compost and analyzing total magnesium (Mg) and manganese (Mn) levels using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results of measuring the pH, temperature and humidity of the compost were tested using a one-way analysis of variance test. The results showed that the F value of calculating the pH, temperature and humidity of the compost was greater than the table F value with successive values of 146.427 > 2.62; 10,690 > 2.62; 746.343 > 2.62 so it was concluded that the composting time had a significant effect on the pH, temperature and humidity of the compost. The optimum time of composting is 16 days with a pH of 7.19-7.5, a temperature of 27-28.9oC and a humidity of 50-60%. The optimum variation of EM4 is 5 mL with a total magnesium (Mg) content value of 0.09644% and manganese (Mn) total of 0.01788%.

Abstract

Optimization of pH and optimum contact time of coated magnetite adsorbent (Fe3O4-AH) against metal ions Pb2+ has been carried out. Humic acid-coated magnetite adsorbent (Fe3O4-AH) was prepared using the coprecipitation method with a mass ratio of 1:2 (w/w) and the separation process using an external magnet. Optimization was carried out by batch method using a Pb solution with a concentration of 50 mg/L and an adsorbent mass of 0.1 gram Fe3O4-AH. The test results show that the optimum pH is at pH 5 with % adsorption of 97.70% and the optimum contact time is at 20 minutes with % adsorption of 99.89%. Keywords: humic acid, magnetite, adsorption

Abstract

Pyrolysis of a coconut (Cocos nucifera L) husk using a pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) instrument was carried out. This research was conducted to determine the chemical composition of pyrolysis of a coconut husk at temperaturs of 350, 450 and 550 °C. Pyrolysis of coconut husk produced lignin derivative products by 15-32% and cellulose/hemicellulose derivative products 9-34%. The gas product produced in the co-pyrolysis of a mixture microalgae anda coconut fiber is 41-50%. Pyrolysis product with the highest % area, namely methyl alcohol, 2-butanone, phenol, benzofuran, 2,3-dihydro- dan 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol Keywords: Co-pyrolysis, Py-GC/MS dan coconut husk

Abstract

Phytochemical screening and antibacterial activity from methanol extract of Dollar leaves (Ficus pumila L.) against Streptococcus mutans and Salmonella typhi bacteria has been done. The extraction was done by maceration extraction using methanol. Phytochemical test showed Ficus pumila L. contains secondary metabolites including alkaloids and steroids. Antibacterial activity test using diffusion methode of agar by well and disc indicate the presence of antibacterial activity (same MIC among concentration 0-0.625%) againts Streptococcus mutans and Salmonella typhi bacteria. The diameter range againts Streptococcus mutans and Salmonella typhi bacteria by well including with 13.5 mm (strong antibacterial activities) dan 16.67 mm (strong antibacterial activities) while by paper disc including with 15.66 mm (strong antibacterial activities) dan 16.3 mm (strong antibacterial activities). Abstract

Nipah (Nypa fruticans Wurmb) is a mangrove plant from the Palmae tribe that grows along rivers that are affected by tides. The abundance of nipa palm in mangrove forests is quite high, so it has great potential to be developed. This review aims to discuss the potential anti-inflammatory activity of nipah leaves as traditional medicine, so that they can add value to nipah leaves and can be useful in the health sector. The literature search was carried out through Google Scholar and Scholar research papers related to the ability of anti-inflammatory activity in nipah leaves and other Arecaceae families. Nipah leaf extract contains secondary metabolites, namely flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, steroid saponins and triterpenoids. Flavonoids can function as inhibitors of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes so that they can be used to treat anti-inflammatory. Based on the literature, it can be concluded that nipah leaves are potentially effective as traditional medicine in treating inflammation or inflammation. Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by the inability of the pancreas to produce insulin which is characterized by hyperglycemia. One of the therapies used to lower blood glucose levels is drugs that have a mechanism to inhibit the α-glucosidase enzyme, so that it can delay the glucose absorption in the digestive tract. One of the plants that has the potential to inhibit the α-glucosidase enzyme is bay leaf. The intention of this study was determine the activity of ethyl acetate extract and chromatographic fraction of bay leaf in inhibiting the α-glucosidase enzyme. A liquid-partition process from 96% ethanol extract was carried out to obtain ethyl acetate extract. The ethyl acetat extract was separated by fractionation using chromatography and TLC with pNPG substrate and acarbose positive control. The inhibitory activity testing of the α-glucosidase enzyme was executed using an ELISA reader with a wavelength of 405 nm. The result revealed that the ethyl acetate extract had inhibitory activity of the α-glucosidase enzym with an IC50 of 79,65 ppm. The F-5.5 fraction was the best fraction with an IC50 value of 18,99 ppm. The acarbose activity in inhibiting the α-glucosidase enzyme had an IC50 value of 18,05 ppm. Koenig) Sm.). Sample preparation was carried out using the extraction method, namely maceration with 96% ethanol and obtained a crude extract of ethanol and continued by partition by liquid-liquid extraction method and obtained the n-hexane, the ethyl acetate, and the methanol:water fractions. The antibacterial activity test was carried out on the four samples using the well diffusion method with modification against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. The antibacterial activity test showed activity in the crude extract of ethanol with an inhibition zone diameter of 7.7 mm. Keyword: white pacing, antibacterial, Escherichia coli
