Abstract

Penelitian mengenai pengaruh bahan aktivator pada pembuatan karbon aktif dari tempurung kelapa untuk keperluan industri telah dilakukan. Tempurung kelapa dibersihkan dan dipotong – potong, dan dikarbonisasi pada suhu 6000C selama 4 jam, lalu diayak dengan ukuran 30-60 mesh. Arang hasil karbonisasi direndam pada larutan NaCl, NaOH, H2SO4 sebagai bahan aktivator masing – masing dengan variasi konsentrasi sebesar 5%, 10%, 15%, dan 20%, selanjutnya arang diaktivasi pada suhu 5000C. Sifat yang diuji adalah kadar air, kadar abu, bagian yang hilang pada pemanasan 9500C, dan daya serap iodium. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi berbagai bahan aktivator berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap karakter karbon yang dihasilkan. Hasil terbaik diperoleh dari tempurung kelapa yang direndam dengan bahan aktivator NaCl 20% dengan karakter sebagai berikut: kadar air 4,88%, kadar abu 3,54%, bagian yang hilang pada pemanasan 9500C 14,63%, dan daya serap iodium 761,07 mg/g.

Abstract

This research to exploit the waste sawdust of wood lua (Ficus glomerata ROXB) for the making particle board with the variation size measure particle that is 60 mesh, 80 mesh and mixture (60 mesh+80 mesh). Wood lua represent the wood less be recognized and to lower specific gravity. Agglutinant use the glue of Urea Formaldehyda (UF) with the glue concentration 20% from dry weight particle substance. The result of research show the average value board particle wood lua made for moisture content to range from 9,25-9,41%; wood density as 0,60-0,63 gr/cm3; thickness swelling as  9,13-9,53 %; modulus of rupture (MoR) 97,63-101,59 kgf/cm2; modulus of elasticity (MoE) 1,12-1,32.104 kgf/cm2; tensile strength as 2,96-3,99 kgf/ cm2. As a whole result examination  nature of fisis and mechanical particle board wood lua the standard quality of SNI 03-2105-2006 except for the examination modulus of elasticity (MoE).Key wood : lua, fisis, mechanical, particle.

Abstract

Laminated beams of two, three and four layers of coconut wood the bottom, middle and top part with PVAc adhesive (Poly Vinyl Acetat). The purpose of this research is to make coconut wood laminate beams for structural building materials. The results showed that the laminated beam two, three and four layers are made of wood bottom and middle part produce strong mechanical strength class II and III, so that qualified for structural building materials (SNI.03-3527-94). laminated beams of two, three and four are made of wood mechanical strength of the top part produces a strong class IV and meet for structural building materials (SNI.03-3527-94). Abstract

Acacia Mangium wood can to used for substitution comercial wood. Materiel Acacia mangium woods  was take from HTI at  seven age with diameter   30 – 33 cm.   The results Physical properties and mechanical strength obtained by the water content of dry air from 13.78 to 14.89%; density of 0.60 to 0.62 gr/cm3; specific gravity of 0.59 to 0.61; compressive strength parallel fibers from 319.54 to 361.70 Kg/cm2; compressive strength perpendicular to fiber 117-197 kg/cm2; bending strength (MOR) from 509.25 to 680.50 kg/cm2; cleave strength 80.25 to 110.90 kg/cm2; tensile strength of 98.27 to  133.03 kg/cm2; shear strength of parallel fiber from 93.53 to 149.43 kg/cm2 and hardness from 453 to 565 kg/cm2.  Physical properties and mechanical  strenght  can was  standard  for furniture and  construction.Keywords: acacia mangium wood, physical  and mechanical  wood

Abstract

Development of the rattan furniture industry today is quite fast although the amount of raw materials are decreasing, especially in commersial rattan commodities such as Manau,  Irit, Taman, Sega, etc. Their price is quite expensive too five species of rattan were used as research materials. There are Manau (Calamus mettanensis Becc), Toho (Calamus sp), Galang (Daemonorops verticilaris Griff Mart), Hijau (Calamus sp) and simpurut (Calamus panajuga Becc). For finishing materials, clear glass melamine (ML 131 and NC 141) were used in this research with three different immersion timer for 24 hours, 36 hours and 48 hours long. An immersion method without using any finishing materials was done as control materials. Result show that the average of volume expansion of rattan speseis using NC 141 are 1,56-3,16% in Marau; 1,36-2,91%; in Toho; 2,01-3,05% in Galang; 2,12-3,20% in Hijau and 1,90-2,14 in Simpurut. In the other hand, the average of volume expansion of rattan species using melamin ML 131 are 1,27-2,58% in Marau; 1,46-2,51% in Toho; 2,30-3,23% in galang; 1,10-2,79% in Hijau and 1,45-2,55% in Simpurut. In control materials the average of expantion volume in 5 species rattans is 2,53-3,99%. From those results, the best method was shown in using NC 141 which can prevent the volume expansion and give great influence in volume expansion value.Keywords: rattan, finishing material, melamine ML 131, melamine NC 141, volume expantion.

Abstract

Saw dust waste has a big potential to be used as charcoal briquettes. The galam wood charcoal was added to increase the quality of the Meranti saw dust charcoal. The composition arrangement of Meranti saw dust and galam wood charcoal were 100%:0% ; 90%:10% ; 85%:15% ; 80%:20% ; and 0%:100%. Tapioca flour was used as the adhesive agent. We use 10.000 kg/cm2 for the pressure clamp. The result show that the charcoal briquette have the physical characteristics such as 3.78% - 4.54% for water content with the density between 0.49 – 0.77 gr/cm3 – 0,77 gr/cm3. For the chemical characteristics, the ash content is between 2.64% - 3.24%, substances fly content is 25,40% - 29,40% and the calorific value is between 5502.40 – 6249 cal/gr. The addition of galam wood charcoal is causing the decreasing of the ash and substance fly content but in contrast the calorific value and the residual carbon are increase.Keywords: charcoal briquette, meranti, galam, physic, chemistry

Abstract

The research about the utilization of gemor stem skin oil (Alseodaphne spp) as an alternative natural repellent mat has been done. This research aim to obtain essential oils from the bark  using distillation and extraction method and used  as repellent active ingredient. The result showed  that the product is  efficient and biodegradable  proven by a test activity against the mosquito (Aedes aegypti). Varying the concentrations used are 10%, 20%, and 30% with the time observations to 02, 04, 06 and 08 hours after treatment. The results showed that anti-mosquito activity tends to increase with higer concentration. The use of 30% doses of Gemor bark  essential oil is  effective. The Effectiveness of the product against the mosquito (Aedes aegypti) and the economid value were compared with the innovator product containing DEET (N, N-diethyl-m-toluamid). Abstract

The research of Distillation And Raw Material Composition Effect of Yield And Quality EssentialOil of Leaves And Stem Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth). This study aimed to examine the influence of the length of distillation and composition of raw materials to the yield and quality of essential oil of patchouli leaves and stems to produce essential oils that have a high quality and yield. The time required to obtain the highest yield of patchouli oil is 8 hours, by composition of 100% leaf (1:0), that is equal to 3.631%, while the lowest yield of patchouli oil are produced from 100% stem (1:0) by distillation of 4 hours, in the amount of 0.10%. Composition that produces patchouli oil with the best quality is 100% stems (0:1) but that yield is lower, while the quality of patchouli oil produced by 100% leaf (1:0) and a mixture of leaf-stem (1:1) quality is still lower than the patchouli oil from the stem, but its yield is better than the yield of oil patchouli by 100% composition of the stem (0:1).Keywords:  essential oil, pogostemon cablin benth, yield

Abstract

The research of particle board for interior purpose with the mixed composition of rattan shavings (as core) and oil palm shell (the outer layer) had been done. Those composition consisted of a1= 30%: 40%: 30%, a2= 25%:50%:25%, a3= 20%, 60%, 20%, a4= 15%:70%:15%, a5= 10%:80%,10%,  a6= 5%:90%:5%. The concentration of Urea Formaldehida (UF) adhesive were b1=3%, b2= 6%, b3=9%. The physical and mechanical properties of particles board showed that water content 11,12% - 11,71%, the development of thickness 5,56% - 7,15%, water absorption 18,04% - 23,46%, density 0,52 g/cm3 – 0,71 g/cm3, Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) 128 kg/cm2 – 697 kg/cm2, Module of Rufture (MOR) 52 kg/cm2 – 106  kg/cm2. The higher the concentration of raw materials of rattan shavings nor UF adhesive, the better quality of partcle board, included in the criteria for medium density of flat particle board. Abstract

Utilization of gemor bark (Alseodaphne spp) distillation waste for particle board had been carried out. The aim of this research was physical mechanical from wood sawdust waste mixed with gemor bark distillation waste which properties physically and mechanically meet quality requirements. The raw materials used were sawdust mixed with gemor bark distillation waste which mashed16 mesh and the adhesive used were starch and PVAC. Composition variety of the mixture of wood sawdust waste particles and gemor bark distillation waste particle 50%: 50%, 60%: 40%., 70%: 30% with 5% adhesive. The results showed that highest average of modulus of rupture (27,55 kg/cm2) was obtained in 70% : 30% comparison of  sawdust and gemor bark distillation waste with starch adhesive (a3b1) and the density average was 0.75 gr/cm3. The highest average of modulus of elasticity (351,50 kg/cm2) was in composition of 60%: 40% with starch adhesive (a2b1) and the density average was 0.69 gr/cm3. The highest average of tensile strength (4,11 kg/cm2) was obtained in composition of 50%: 50% with starch adhesive and the density average was  0.79 gr/cm3.Keywords: sawdust wood, distillation waste, gemor bark, particle board
