Abstract

This study examines the suitability of the management of Angke Kapuk Nature Tourism Park (TWA Angke Kapuk) with the principles of sustainable tourism, encompassing economic, social, and environmental aspects. The analysis employed a quantitative descriptive method using a scoring approach based on various sustainability indicators. The results indicate that the management of TWA Angke Kapuk is considered fairly consistent with the principles of sustainable tourism, although several aspects still require improvement. The main issues identified in the economic aspect include the absence of local entrepreneurs within the tourism area and workers’ incomes that do not yet meet the minimum wage standard. From the social aspect, community involvement in the planning process remains limited, while tourist education is provided through tour guides and information boards, although access to these educational facilities remains limited. In the environmental aspect, mangrove conservation and wildlife protection efforts have been implemented; however, solid waste management and the utilization of renewable energy still require improvement. Therefore, optimizing more inclusive and sustainable management strategies is necessary to enhance the positive impacts of tourism on both the environment and surrounding communities.

Abstract

Water demand in urban areas continues to increase along with the increasing population and community activities. Makassar City has a population of 1,474,393 people with a water demand of 191,671,090 litres/day. In 2035, the demand for clean water is estimated to reach 200,280,600 litres/day. The service coverage of the Makassar City Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) is 69%. Water supply and management in Makassar City must be carried out with smart and sustainable governance. One of the strategies that can be applied is the provision of recycled water services which is one form of smart water governance. The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) located in Macini Sombala and managed by PDAM Makassar City is projected to be able to serve 70,000 people with a wastewater treatment capacity of 16,000 m³ per day. If this wastewater can be processed into raw water, the raw water supply of Makassar city can increase. The study aims to assess the acceptance level and factors that influence the level of acceptance of recycled water. Descriptive statistical method was used to analyse the level of acceptance of recycled water and Robust Regression with M Estimation was used to analyse the factors affecting the acceptance of recycled water. The results of the study indicate that acceptance of the use of recycled water in Makassar city is positively willing to use it for level 1 types of utilisation. However, the utilisation of recycled water for levels 2 to 5 is still below 50%. Factors that significantly influence acceptance are age, education, PDAM bills, preference for water quality, amount of water usage, environmental awareness, perception of health hazards, trust in technology and credibility of research information, and perception of the appearance of recycled water.

Abstract

Poverty is the oldest and most difficult problem to overcome to this day, and so far the resolution of poverty problems still ignores the spatial aspects that can be seen in the uniform application of poverty alleviation programs. Currently, East Kotawaringin Regency ranks first in terms of the number of poor people in Central Kalimantan Province at 30,328 people and there is no measurable information and analysis on the characteristics of poverty that are a problem in East Kotawaringin Regency. From these conditions, it is necessary to study the identification of poverty clusters in Kabupaten Kotawaringin Timur and the condition of the dominance of land use in the poverty clusters that are formed. In an effort to study poverty clusters in Kabupaten Kotawaringin Timur, cluster analysis is used with a level of data detail up to the individual level which will then be aggregated into spatial aspects at the village scale. The results of the multicollinearity test showed that the Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) value of the variables Number of household members, source of clean water, source of lighting energy, defecation facilities, number of bicycles and household welfare status showed a number below 0.05 and through the results of cluster analysis, poverty in East Kotawaringin Regency was divided into 3 clusters, the first cluster with low poverty characteristics with difficult access to basic facilities and sanitation dominated by large-scale plantation land use of 214. 070.08 hectares, the second cluster with moderate poverty characteristics with a high dependency burden dominated by dense forest land use covering 445,093.85 hectares and the third cluster with high poverty characteristics with low welfare levels dominated by dense forest land use covering 78,661.08 hectares.

Abstract

This study analyzes the use of the K-Means method to cluster villages/urban areas in Sumbawa Regency based on the similarity of characteristics such as population size, slum area, and housing data in order to provide a clear strategy for addressing issues at different levels of government: central, provincial, and local. The data collection method employed is secondary data obtained from the Housing and Settlement Area Office of Sumbawa Regency for the year 2023. The data used includes the following variables: Slum Area (X1), Population Size (X2), Number of Houses (X3), Number of Uninhabitable Houses (RTLH) (X4), and Housing Backlog (X5). The data was analyzed using SPSS software. Based on regulatory considerations, the clustering is proposed to consist of three clusters. According to the K-Means method, Cluster 1 consists of 1 village, Cluster 2 consists of 13 villages/urban areas, and Cluster 3 consists of 45 villages/urban areas. Each cluster is then grouped based on the similarity of their characteristics. Specifically, Cluster 1 is categorized as high in terms of average values for variables X1, X2, X3, and X4 (above the population average). Cluster 2 is categorized as medium, with average values for X1, X2, X3, and X4 (at the population average). Cluster 3 is categorized as low, with below-average values for all variables (below the overall population average).

Abstract

The City of Surakarta was named the most livable city in Indonesia by the Indonesian Association of Urban and Regional Planners (IAP) in 2022, achieving a livability index score of 77 percent. However, behind this achievement lie several fundamental issues, such as the presence of slum settlements, unequal access to basic services, and a transportation system that remains non-inclusive—raising concerns about the accuracy of the assessment. This study aims to evaluate the alignment between the actual conditions of Surakarta and the indicators of the Livable City Index by IAP, using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through document analysis, field observations, and in-depth interviews with relevant stakeholders, and analyzed using triangulation methods to ensure the validity of the findings. The research reveals a disparity between the city’s formal livability status and its real conditions, particularly in terms of Green Open Space (RTH), which only reaches 9%, and limited access to adequate housing for low-income groups. These findings suggest that the current indicators do not fully reflect the needs of the community in a fair and inclusive manner, highlighting the need for improvements that make the indicators more contextual and responsive to the complexities of urban realities.

Abstract

The Agrarian Reform Village (Kampung Reforma Agraria/KRA) Program is part of the access reform agenda aimed at improving community welfare through land legalization and local economic empowerment. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the KRA Program in Kalisari Village, Banyumas Regency, and to identify its linkages with the six dimensions of the Smart City concept using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluative approach and thematic analysis. The results show that the program has been implemented effectively, supported by strong institutional capacity and multi-stakeholder collaboration, and has made a tangible contribution to the dimensions of Smart Governance, Smart Economy, Smart Society, and Smart Branding. However, its contribution to the Smart Living and Smart Environment dimensions remains limited. Furthermore, although technological elements such as the use of the Online Single Submission (OSS) system and digital land certification have been introduced, technology adoption in village governance and information systems has not yet been comprehensively integrated. These findings highlight the importance of digitalization strategies in transforming agrarian reform-based villages toward sustainable smart village development.

Abstract

Lake Lut Tawar, located in Aceh Province, is one of the developing tourism areas. However, the rapid development of tourism in this area presents a dilemma between economic growth and socio-environmental impacts. This study aims to describe in detail the dual impacts of this phenomenon and to illustrate the perceptions and responses of the local community, particularly the community of Mendale Village. This study applies a descriptive qualitative method. The primary data collection technique is in-depth interviews with selected informants using purposive sampling, supplemented by data from observations and document studies. All collected data are then analyzed using a thematic approach. The research results indicate a duality of impacts. On one hand, tourism has proven to be a new economic driver, creating job opportunities and business prospects. However, on the other hand, this has led to relatively significant externalities, such as waste management issues, physical damage to the lake due to sedimentation, and water pollution. The main conclusion is that tourism development at Lake Lut Tawar is proceeding in a pragmatic and unplanned manner, creating a dilemma between short-term economic interests and long-term environmental sustainability. Existing management efforts have proven unable to keep pace with the massive scale of development.

Abstract

Located in the centre of Malang City, ‘Kayutangan’ neighbourhood area became popular since it developed as heritage tourism destination, “Kampoeng Heritage Kajoetangan”. Despite the ‘heritage-themed’ tourism, it does not retain a legal status as a cultural heritage area. Considering the old buildings that became tourism attractions, the tourism activities are carrying possibilities of over-tourism and potential harmful situations to the cultural and historical value. Hence, this research aimed to understand and identify the tourism activities and its effects, whether it is negative or positive, to the cultural heritage resources. The research conducted using qualitative approach with descriptive analysis in order to be able to have a thorough explanation regarding all the current situation related to the main concern of the research. According to the findings and analysis, tourism activities were able to bring positive impacts, especially from the physical and economy aspects. However, there has been no development regarding the socio-cultural aspect, and both visitors and local dwellers have little to no knowledge regarding the subject. This leads to a conclusion that the tourism activities can sustain as a community-based tourism; but still lacking in cultural heritage conservation which should be a priority in the future development.

Abstract

Rapid urbanization triggers urban sprawl and land-use inefficiency. The compact city approach offers a solution through urban activity intensification. This study examines urban activity intensification in the Yogyakarta Urban Area as a key aspect of achieving urban compactness. The research applies a deductive–quantitative approach with 72 urban villages as the unit of analysis. The intensity index was constructed from four variables: land-use diversity, availability of public facilities, residential land percentage, and built-up land percentage. The findings reveal that central Yogyakarta has the highest intensification, supported by dominant built-up areas, diverse land uses, and adequate facilities, while urban and sub-urban segments show lower levels. All variables significantly influence the intensity index, with built-up land percentage emerging as the most dominant factor. These findings highlight that urban activity intensification supports urban compactness and provides a basis for spatial planning to control urban expansion and promote more efficient and sustainable urban development.

Abstract

The construction of toll roads serves not only as interregional connectivity infrastructure but also has implications for the dynamics of local community mobility. However, studies examining its impacts on areas surrounding interchanges remain limited. This study aims to analyze the impact of the Pekanbaru–Bangkinang Toll Road segment on community mobility patterns in eight villages with direct access to interchanges, focusing on socioeconomic aspects, activity characteristics, and travel behavior. The study employed a quantitative approach through a survey of 375 households using proportional random sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, complemented by alluvial diagrams to visualize transitions in mobility patterns. The results show that the community is predominantly composed of working-age groups with secondary education and lower-middle income levels, who tend to use motorcycles as their primary mode of transportation. Toll road utilization is more prevalent among higher-income groups, who predominantly use cars, indicating disparities in accessibility. Activity patterns have shifted from predominantly routine activities toward multi-purpose activity combinations, while daily travel frequency has increased alongside the emergence of new mobility patterns. These findings indicate that the toll road has encouraged the diversification of mobility at the local level, although its benefits have not been distributed evenly across all community groups. Therefore, an inclusive transportation strategy, supported by integration with local transport modes and more affordable access policies, is needed to ensure that t
