Abstract

This paper discloses the view concerning the urgency of values of Islamic teaching and values of local wisdom of Bugis people in constructing the system of good governance in Indonesia. Based on what al-Qur’an has insisted that the positive and effective change must be begun from the inner side of awarness and should be done collectively whether in the structural or cultural basis. Inner change encompasses two elements, mindset and knowledge, in such a way the internalization of glorious values from the al-Qur’anic teaching must be done in the self of each indivual and, furthermore, enable to make good social life and good governance as well. This kind of internalization of glorious values also showed in local wisdom of Bugis which is implied in the concept of “ade’”. Acoording to Bugis people, ade’ is an essence of human being, since it is a reason why a man is named as human being. For Bugis people, ade’ is a value. The ethical codes and values are called pangngadereng. There is a number of Local wisdom and values in the ethnic of Bugis, namely: lempu’, amaccang, agettengeng, asitinajang, and reso which must be internalized and applied in this life then, in further way, have direct implication for good social life and also for good governance. By means of comparative-descriptive method, this paper attempts to portrait these two points of view and hopefully it can show the conformity between them with respect to glorious values and wisdom.

Abstract

This article is aimed to This article discusses about Tafsīr Ibn ‘Arabi. It focuses on describing it and questioning the essence of its writer. The blur of its writer will impact on the precision of the researchers in constracting the figure thought. By an analysis descriptive method and ‘Irfan al-Nazhari it finds that: First, essentially the Tafsīr Ibn ‘Arabi is called Ta'wīlāt al-Kasyani or Ta'wīlāt al-Qur’anal-Hakīm which is written by Syaikh ‘Abd Razzāq al-Kasyani is not written by Ibn ‘Arabi. Second, this book is categorized as al-isyārī al-syuhūdī or al-faidhi and tafsir al-isyārī al-nazhari. Third, ‘Abd Razzāq al-Kasyani is one of the prominent figures of Ibn Arabin thought, commentator works, interpreter and the founder of sufi terminologies works. He is the knower which has much knowledge and being one of prominent writer in the history of Sufi Civilization.

Abstract

This paper discusses a critical responsse to radical and moderate epistemological skepticism based on skepticism about the credibility of the senses, reason, and the possibility of the existence of the x-factor that manipulates consciousness. The proposed responsse is based on inspiration from the Qur'anic discussion of skepticism through the interpretation of Jawadi Amuli. With Paul Ricoeur's descriptive analysis and hermeneutics, a number of conclusions reached include the following three things. First, according to Jawadi Amuli, the Qur'an views the skepticism of those who reject the truth of the treatise as rooted in epistemological sensibility and ontological materialism, whereas reality is not limited to matter and the senses cannot be a source of belief, but must have reason. Second, radical skepticism is unacceptable, whereas moderate skepticism is acceptable. Third, belief cannot be rejected with skepticism on the senses, reason, as well as on the possibility of the existence of the x-factor that damages consciousness.

Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to show the relation between the interpretation of sacred texts, in this case the text of the Qur’an, and socio-religious attitudes of sectarian groups in Islam. This relation can be identified from the different characteristics of the social attitudes of religious people who are affiliated with certain groups in Islam which actually have different methods and styles of interpretation. This hypothesis is based on the principle that socio-religious attitudes are necessarily based on religious understanding, and the religious understanding must generate from interpretations of sacred texts, nor excluded in Islam with different methods and styles of interpretation of the Qur’anic texts by Muslims in different sects. This paper outlines two sects based on their methods and styles of interpretation, namely the Fundamentalists who tend to scripturalist-textualist methods and styles of interperetation and the Moderates with substantive-contextualist methods and styles. By analyzing the two methods of interpretation from the two groups, it is hoped that it can be used as a basis for identifying the socio-religious attitudes of Muslims and finding solutions to the negative implications in social life caused by these attitudes. The method that the author uses in presenting this paper is the analytical-critical-comparative method, which is to analyze critically the methods and styles of interpretation of the two religious groups and then with a comparative-critical approach the author tries to identify the socio-religious attitudes come from both of them, in the way to use it as a reference in finding solutions to solve the negative impacts of those attitudes in social life.

Abstract

This article explains the various premises and formulations of the rational and systematic i'jāz Al-Qur'an theory. This departs from two contexts of i'jāz discourse, namely in the Qur'anic sciences and kalam/philosophy. In the Qur'anic sciences, the discussion focuses more on the i'jāz aspect, while in kalam and philosophy it is more on the aspect of prophetic theory. For this reason, the author sees the need for a kind of synthesis between the two discourses, through an analysis of two thinkers, namely Fakhruddin Ar-Razi and Jawadi Amuli. This literature qualitative research was conducted using Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic method which emphasizes disstantiation, interpretation, and appropriation. A number of important conclusions that can be reached by this study include four premises from Ar-Razi and six premises from Jawadi Amuli which the author formulated into a theory of i'jāz Al-Qur'an.

Abstract

Amina Wadud is a feminist figure who intensively interprets gender verses in the Qur'an. She is a figure who supports the existence of hermeneutics in the study of interpretation. She is heavily involved with issues related to gender and feminist issues. Therefore, it is not surprising that she is considered one of the leading Muslim feminists. As a feminist figure, she has criticized many methods of religious understanding that discriminate against women, especially those related to the method of interpreting the Qur'an. For this reason, he concluded that it was necessary to reinterpret the Qur'an. This research is a literature study (literature study) and focuses on Q.S An-Nisā’ [4]: [34} "Men are leaders for women". As for Amina Wadud's thoughts on the relationship between husband and wife, it is not as a hierarchical relationship pattern but as a function of partnership.

Abstract

This article discusses the meaning of term Islam in the Qur’an and its relations to the diversity of religious people statuses. In the interpretation context, this interpretation of Islam brings many opinions, which-if it is classified into two forms of understanding, namely inclusive understanding and exclusive understanding. Inclusive understanding is considered more to fight for unity, unfortunately by its rival this understanding seems too loose, and is claimed not to heed the exclusive elements that are from the beginning in the Qur’an. Exclusive understanding at this stage can cause divisions among religious communities. Therefore in this article, I want to propose an alternative understanding, which accommodates and mediates the two previous understandings, according to al-Marāghis point of view. This research is a type of qualitative research conducted with study research (literature study), with descriptive-analysis writing methods and thematic figures. Finally in this research, I found that according to al-Marāghi, Islam in the Qur’an has two different contexts of meaning, namely Islam as Religion and Islam as Sharia.

Abstract

This article tries to explain Al-Quran Hermeneutics (takwil) in the perspective of Mullā Ṣadrā. The core issue discussed in this article is the presentation of three theories that form the basic foundation of Al-Qur'an hermeneutics (takwil) in the Mullā Ṣadrā’s perspective: first, the level of meaning of the Qur'an; second, his view of clear (muḥkām) and vague (mutashābihāt) verses; third, his belief in the harmony between reason and revelation. Another interesting discussion that readers will find when reading this article is an explanation of the unique characteristics of Mullā Ṣadrā's interpretation, as well as Mullā Ṣadra's criticism and moderate attitude towards the various classifications of exegetical methodologies used by the commentators. Meanwhile, in the process of applying the interpretation, he invites us to explore the esoteric meaning (bāṭin) as deeply as possible, without leaving the exoteric meaning (ẓāhir).

Abstract

This article is a literature review of the Al-Amthāl fī Tafsīr Kitāb al-Munazzal about piety of Ahlulbait by analyzing Q.S Al-Insān verses 5-10. The purpose of the analysis of Ahlulbait's piety in Q.S Al-Insān verses 5-10 is to explain the characteristics of a representative figure after the Prophet Muhammad that can eliminate the notion that there is a dichotomy between individual piety and social piety. This article will talk about the meaning of Ahlulbait's piety to explain the characteristics of al-Abrār which are described in Q.S Al-Insān verses 5-10. By using the descriptive historical method, the conclusion is that the piety of Ahlulbait reflected in Q.S Al-Insān verses 5-10 produces the characteristics of al-Abrār, carrying out vows perfectly, fearing the Day of Judgment, ith'am activities carried out to all elements of society, sincere in doing everything, only hope for Allah's pleasure alone and fear Allah on the day of Judgment. These five characteristics are related to one another to form a complete piety of the figure of Ahlulbait.

Abstract

This paper tries to prove that differences in interpretation of the Al-Qur’an are necessary and inevitable. Even if it we can assume that the reading of the text can be free from ideological intervention and the tendency of commentators, differences in interpretation will still exist. To prove it, the author proposes and examines a linguistic phenomenon known as al-aḍdād or contranym. Using a number of muktabar and standard traditional commentaries, this paper examines six contranym entries that appear in the text of the Al-Qur’an, and shows their implications for differences in interpretation—both differences called tanawwu'ī (variative) and taḍādd (contradictory).
