Abstract

Lontar (Borassus flabeliffer L.) fruit is one of the typical fruit East Nusa tenggara (NTT) province, rich in bioactive compounds, containing beta-carotene. The purpose of this study was to test the sensory wet noodles, extra fortification ejection as well as analyzing the feasibility of the production of wet noodles fortified ejection. The study was designedusingcompletely randomized design with two treatments.First treatment was the fortification of palm extract about 30, 40, and 50% (F). And the second treatment was the wheat flour with a protein content about 8, 10, and 12% (T). About 25 trained panelists were testing the sensory properties of treated noodles. The sensory properties included hedonic test for color, smell, texture, firmness and flavor in general and bitter taste on the tongue, followed by calculation of the percentage of each category. Data were analysed using ANOVA and continued with DMRT.The results showed the treatment fortification F1 (30%) and the use of wheat flour T1 (8%),was  the most preferred by the panelists. The panelists were also asked to rate the bitterness of tne noodles on their tongue and none sampledemonstrated a bitter taste. The business analysis of making wet noodles with treatment F1T1 generated revenue cost ratio about 1.221 which indicates that the business is feasible or profitable.

Abstract

The research aimed to evaluate the potential production of Arbila (Phaseolus lunatus L.) seed at different level of rizobium inoculants. This research has been conducted in Kupang State Agricultural Polytechnic during 4 months. The research was using randomized block design (RBD) having 5 treatments and 4 replications (20 units). The treatments were I1:  without inoculant, I2 :  10 g rizobium inoculant /kg seed, I3 : 20 g rizobium inoculant /kg seed, I4 : 30 g rizobium inoculant /kg seed, dan I5 : 40 g rizobium inoculant /kg seed. The observed variables were fresh seed production (ton/ha), dry weight seed production (ton/ha), weight of 100 seeds (g), and dry matter seed production (ton/ha). Data were analysed using variance analysis and continued with Duncan test. The result showed that the performance of Arbila seed were influenced by inoculant level. Increasing in inoculant level caused increasing in production of arbila seed. The higher seed production was the seed having 40 g rizobium inoculant /kg. The production were 3.62 tons of fresh seed/ha,  3.41 tons of dry seed/ha, 33.83 g per 100 seeds, 3.25 tons of DM /ha. This production was actually not different with seed having 30 g rizobium inoculant /kg seed.  The production were 2.57 tons of fresh seed/ha, 2.53 tons of dry seed/ha, 32.18 g per 100 seeds, and 2.42 tons of DM /ha. In conclusion, treatments with 40 g or 30 g of rizobium inoculant per kg seed were the best level for Arbila plant to produce higher seed. Key Words : Legume Arbila (Phaseolus lunatus L), Rizobium Inoculant, seed production, feed plant.

Abstract

A studies have been conducted in Almira Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara on fermented corn cob with fungi Trichoderma viride, in order to determine the content of tannins and crude fiber corncobs after fermentation by treatment dosage and duration of molds fermentation. The study was designed using a completely randomized design (CRD) patterned with a 4x5x3 factorial. The main factor was the dose of mold (D),having 0; 2.5; 5 and 7.5 g/ kg and the second factor was the period of the fermentation time (W), having 0, 4, 8,12 and 16 days; and 3 replications each. The results showed a significant effect of treatment (P<0.05) on tannin and crude fiber content in fermented corn cob.The treated combination of D7,5-W12 was the best treatment to decrease tannins content from 12.75% to 5.18% and crude fiber content from 20.54% to 35.67%. Thus the best fermentation results were shown on the application of the fungus Trichoderma viride at the dose of 7.5 g/ kg fermented for 12-days. It is recommended to do further research feeding animals with the feremented corn cob, especially ruminants.Keywords: Corn Cobs, Trichoderma viride, Tannin, Crude Fiber

Abstract

Using quality seeds could increase crop production, including kidney bean, "Inerie", cultivar. The qualified seeds providing enough food supply in the endosperm as a primary energy for a normal and strong germination (viability) and seedling growth (vigor). Seeds from harvested yield are stored for the next planting season. During storage the quality of the seeds will be deprived physically, physiologically and chemically, impact on the production. One way to overcome the drawbacks of the deteriorated seeds is by osmoconditioning using Polyethylene Glycol solution. Osmoconditioning strongly influenced by the osmotic potential and duration of osmoconditioning. The results showed that: 1) Osmoconditioning using PEG-6000 during invigoration affect the electrical conductivity and the chemical content of seeds, which has been deteriorating during 1 year storage; and 2) There is an interaction between osmotic potency and duration of osmoconditioning using PEG-6000 in relation to the electrical conductivity and chemical composition on the seed during 1 year storage. -1.0 MPa with 1 hour osmoconditioning gave the best effect on the electrical conductivity, the levels of free fatty acids and P-total of the “Inerie” seeds.Keywords: Kidney bean, osmotic potency, duration of osmoconditioning, deterioration, Polyethylene Glycol.

Abstract

Development of shallot in NTT is closely related to the utilization of dry land that highly susceptible to drought stress.  The growth and yield of shallot on drought condition depended on the level of stress experienced all phases of shallot  and the genetic capability of each shallot cultivars. The objective  of this study is to determine the growth and yield of local shallots NTT with several drought conditions. The experiment had been conducted from April to December 2015, using a randomized block design group. The treatment consisted of two factors which were the level of drought stress and cultivars of local shallots from NTT. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan Multiple 0.05. The results showed that the water supply upto 75% of field capacity was still able to support the growth of shallot in the form of plant height and number of leaves, while the number of tillers and number of tubers was generated by the provision of water 50% of field capacity. The highest result was shown by cultivars from Rote and Sabu both on the supply of water of 100%, XGeneve 75% and 50% of field capacity. Cultivars Rote, Sabu and Semau were not able to generate decent harvested tubers on condition of water supply 25% of field capacity.Keywords: Drought, Growth and Yield, Local Shallots from NTT

Abstract

Aquaponic refers to any system that combines conventional aquaculture with hydroponics in a symbiotic environment. In this study, catfish was cultured with green cabbage. The aim of this study was to observe catfish growth in aquaponics system. The growth parameters measured included feed consumption (g/day/fish), growth (g), growth rate (%/day), mean metabolic body weight (kg0.8), metabolic feed intake (g/ kg0.8/day), relative growth rate per metabolic weight (g/kg0.8/day), relative feeding rate (%BW/day), relative feeding rate per metabolic weight (g/kg0.8) and feed conversion. Factorial randomized trial was used with two factors namely fish stocking density (P) and plant substrate composition (S) with three replications. Stocking density factor consisted of two treatments which were 75-125 individuals per m2 (P1) and 126-175 individuals per m2 (P2). The composition of the substrate included two treatments, namely S1 (70% gravel+30% palm fibres) and S2 (70% pumice+30% palm fibres). The data shown that there is no significant difference of substrate and interaction (stocking density x substrate) factors to the growth of catfish (P>0.05). Whereas, for the treatment of stocking densities, a significant difference (P <0.05) was found on four growth parameters (initial weight, SGR, RGRm and feed consumption).Keywords : aquaponics, catfish, green cabbage and fish growth

Abstract

Cultivation of coconut plantations in East Flores has been carried out for generations in which the application of the technical aspects of coconut farming inadequate, irregular plant spacing and fertilizer pickup. But seen from the planting area and production of coconut people it produces, this commodity still has the potential to be developed that are expected to have high competitiveness. This study aims to analyze the profitability of financial and economic, as well as competitive and comparative advantage in coconut in East Flores. The method used as an indicator in analyzing competitiveness is descriptive method by using the Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM). The results showed (1) coconut farm in East Flores has competitive advantages seen from the PP positive and PCR value smaller than one. Additionally it has a comparative advantage seen from the SP positive and DRCR smaller than one; (2) Commodities coconut in East Flores competitiveness is very high and need to be prioritized to be developed, such as by increasing the added value of oil processing.Keywords: Coconut, PAM, comparative advantage, competitive advantage

Abstract

Sweet potato production is plagued by pests Cylas formicarius Fabricus. These pests can be controlled by using entomopathogenic fungus as a biological control agent. Local biological agents will have a better adaptation and higher performance to control pests compared with biological agents which are introduced from other areas. This study aims to explore the local isolate entomopathogenic fungal species, identify and testing the pathogenicity on C. formicarius. Implementation of the study consists of several stages: collection and maintenance of insects, exploration entomopathogenic fungus, and the effectiveness test of entomopathogenic fungal isolates in the laboratory. The entomopathogenic fungus types which can be found in South Central Timor is Metarhizium anisopliae and Beauveria bassiana. Both of these fungi cause mortality in larvae of C. formicarius respectively by 80.75% (Metarhizium anisopliae) and 80.25% (Beauveria bassiana).
