Abstract

The objectives of this experiment were to test the accuracy of the Bowen ratio method of predicting actual evapotranspiration value of paddy rice. The case study in Indramayu regency, held from June to September 2012. The weather components measured by the Bowen Nisbah system are net radiation, wet ball and dry ball temperature, wet ball gradient and the dry ball at altitudes between 140 cm and 160 cm and at altitudes between 160 cm and 180 cm and soil heat flux. Measurements every 30 minutes from 6.00 AM to 6.00 PM. The components measured by AWS are radiation, temperature, humidity, air pressure, rainfall, wind direction, and speed. The daily evapotranspiration value estimated with Bowen ratio was compared to the correspondent value obtained from FAO Penman-Monteith method using a paired t-test. Results shown the rice field daily evapotranspiration in Indramayu measured at a dry period during the second growing season estimated with Bowen ratio method was 3.3 mm, ranging from 2.4 to 4.3 mm. The corresponding values estimated with the FAO Penman-Monteith was 3.5 mm, ranged from 2.4 to 4.6 mm. The daily evapotranspiration values estimated with two approaches were comparable.

Abstract

Salome, a traditional intercropping system that planting several species of crops in the same hole, was established in Timor Island especially in Timor Tengah Utara district for century. To gain the positive interaction among plants and maximize the yields, however, the competition among plants both in vertical and horizontal directions should be reduced. The objectives of this research are to determine the effect of defoliation models and the number of seeds on the yield of maize and rice bean (Vigna umbellata Thunb), and to study Land Equivalent Ratio (LER) in the intercropping system of salome. All treatments of the pot trial were arranged in a Factorial Randomized Completely Block Design 6 x 4 + monoculture with three replicates. The maize leaf defoliation was the first factor consisted of six levels: without defoliation, 50 % leaves defoliation at the upper stem, 100 % leaves defoliation at the upper stem, defoliation of maize leaves leaving only 100% base to flag leaf, leaf blade defoliation from flag leaves to cob, leaf blade defoliation from stem to the cob. The second factor was the comparison of the maize seed numbers to rice bean. It consisted of 4 levels: one of the maize seed to one bean, one seed of local Timor maize to two beans, two seeds of maize to one bean, two seeds of maize to two beans. The results indicated that the maize leaf blade defoliation, maize leaves defoliation from stem to the cob, and the number of seeds increases the maize yield significantly, however, did not significantly affected the yield of rice bean. The LERs intercropping system on Salome models have a total value > 1.

Abstract

Seeds are said to be healthy if the seeds used are free of disease-causing microorganisms one of them is fungi. The purpose of this study was to obtain the type of pathogenic fungi that infect rice seeds. The research was conducted in the laboratory of Agricultural Faculty and Biology laboratory of Timor University since March - May 2017. The research used Completely Randomized Design of factorial pattern with two factors. The first factor consists of three varieties namely Ciherang, IR, and Siputih. The second factor consists of storage model ie storage in plastic sacks, Sokal, and cans. The results showed that the use of three varieties and models of seed packing material did not show any significant difference to germination. Maximum Growth Potential percentage between Siputih variety (97.33) was significantly different from IR varieties (72.00) and in seed model stored in the plastic sack (94.22) was significantly different from the seeds stored in the Sokal (68.88). Identification results found five fungi of the genus Aspergillus sp.1 and sp.2, Altenaria, Curvularia, Fusarium and Rhizopus that infect the seeds thus decreasing the germination power. The degree of fungal attack varies on varieties and storage models. The five fungal pathogens found, two fungi such as Aspergillus and Fusarium infect seeds with different storage areas lower, to reduce the infection rate of Altenaria fungus, Curvularia and Rhizopus can be treated fungicide.
