Abstract

This study analyzes the water quality and pollution control of the Bangkok River in Gempol District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java, which is increasingly under anthropogenic pressure, including industrial waste, agricultural runoff, and domestic waste. The main objective of this research is to evaluate the current water quality conditions using the Pollution Index (IP) and STORET methods, as well as to identify the primary pollutants affecting water quality. Samples were collected from three monitoring points—upstream, middle, and downstream—using grab sampling. Parameters analyzed included BOD, COD, NH3-N, DO, and fecal coliform, which were compared to Indonesia’s Class II water quality standards. The results showed that the concentrations of BOD, COD, NH3-N, and fecal coliform exceeded the threshold, particularly downstream, indicating high pollution loads. Based on the IP and STORET assessments, the river was classified as moderately to heavily polluted. These findings highlight the need for stricter industrial waste management and an integrated water management strategy to restore the river's ecosystem.

Abstract

Environmental pollution is a crucial issue that needs serious attention. The increasing world population will also increase the level of environmental pollution (Mittal & Mittal, 2013) especially in developing countries (Remilekun Adeuti, 2020) This is also the case in Indonesia. Therefore, this research aims to find out which provinces in Indonesia have a high level of pollution by clustering provinces based on environmental pollution data. The methods used in this research are K-Medoids, K-Means, and Fuzzy C- Means as well as Complete Linkage and Ward's Linkage for Agglomerative Hierarchy. The results show that the K-Medoids method is the best method produces 3 clusters, namely clusters with high average pollution of 11 provinces, clusters with average pollution of 12 provinces, and clusters with low average pollution of 11 provinces.

In addition, to determine the conditions and effects of life expectancy, average length of schooling, and adjusted per capita expenditure on gender inequality in provinces on the island of Sumatra. This study applies quantitative analysis, namely panel data regression analysis with a period of 2017-2022 and 10 provinces on the island of Sumatra. The results of this study explain that the dynamics of gender inequality fluctuate every year. The highest Gender Inequality Index value is in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province at 0.587 while the lowest is in the Riau Islands Province at 0.330. The Riau Islands Province has the highest average development while the lowest average development is Lampung Province. Partially, the variables of life expectancy and average length of schooling do not affect gender inequality. While the adjusted per capita expenditure variable affects gender inequality.
