Abstract

Prose is one of the three literary kinds. Sub kinds of prose are history, description, biography, fiction, reflection, persuasion, censure and humor. The writer will take one sub-genre of prose only, which is fiction. Fiction is action, which primarily appeals to the imagination. This research aims to find the properties of the novel and the social life and comments described in the novel. The scope of the study is limited only a brief look and comments on the social life in “Adventure of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain”. Data analysis was conducted with the  qualitative analysis. The results showed that there was seven elements, which are the biography of the author, the list of his writings, the summary of the adventure of Tom Sawyer, the theme, the plot, the characters, the setting and points of view. In answered the second questions about two aspects consist of; a) human beings has good behaviour, he will do positive activities in the social life such as human beings are not descrimination of racial in their environment. They have a good nature, the nature of love, patience, wisdom, kindness, simplicity, the nature of protection and responsibility and than have the potency to belief in God, b) human beings has bad behaviour, he will not do the positive or good activities in the social life, because there were some the economic gaps in their environment which make them have identical the nature of greed, selfish, arrogance, stinginess and ambitions in their life. Meanwhile, the social life in our environment can make us become mature and care with other people. Abstract

The paper with the title Code Switching and Code Mixing Found in Selected Fanpages on Facebook is underlying in what context and what is the dominantly used by the members of this paper’s object in using code switching and code mixing. This paper intends to determine the focus of the study in selected fanpages on facebook. Fanpage is one of the features on facebook that the function is promoting a brand, a product, and in the fanpage the phenomenon of code switching and code mixing are often happened. Code switching and code mixing have two types. Each type of these codes is established by the use of each type in an utterance. The analysis is focused in figuring out in what context that code switching and code mixing are usually used that is supported by the theories of Thelander, Suwito, and Hymess. The frequency in using each type is the way in determining what kind of code that is dominantly used. The analyzing data method uses descriptive qualitative method that is supported by the theory of Donyei (38). The analysis’ result shows that there are 118 cases of the use of code switching and code mixing, and the last is the context that code switching and code mixing are used are increasing prestige, showing humility, giving endorsement, and language background. keyword: code switching, code mixing, fanpage on facebook.

Abstract

Women are human beings that should have rights as well as men. In the past women were only wives and mothers. However, nowadays many women achieve high positions in the workplace and social life. This achievement would be impossible without the work of feminist that have struggled to fight for women empowerment. This paper discusses women empowerment struggle and development process in comparison between Australia and Indonesia from the beginning to the contemporary era deals with faith of the communities. The reasons, of studying these two countries are because the two countries are different in levels of development and culture. Australia is developed country that recognizable as a very multicultural country where being engaged in a religion is not compulsory where Muslim people is minority among the population, the majority of Australian that belief in faith are Christian; meanwhile Indonesia is a developing country that has the biggest Muslim populations in the world. The methodology of writing will be study of published literatures on the issue. Abstract

The purpose of this research are: (1) To analyze what are the repression of Percy Jackson, (2) To analyze what cause the repression of Percy Jackson, (3) To analyze how Percy Jackson overcome his repression.this research uses theory by Jacques Lacan namely the imaginary and the symbolic, this research uses the descriptive qualitative method because it does not use research data such as number. The result of this research are: (1)  the repression of Percy Jackson is divided into two kinds of the imaginary and the symbolic,  where in the imaginary Percy Jackson has repression from the past that made him depression and in symbolic Percy Jackson have repression from what he saw and he heard is a symbol from monster and gods, Percy was depression when he experiencing it. (2) The cause of repression of Percy Jackson because he is as son of Poseidon (god of sea), that should not be allowed to have children of human. (3) Percy Jackson against the repression of him, he returns the stolen lightning bolt from Zeus and thwart World War III. Keywords: The Lightning Thief, repression, the imaginary, the symbolic.
