Jurnal Sains & Teknologi Lingkungan (JSTL) published twice a year in January and June is a scientific journal that publishes scientific research papers and ideas in the field of science and technology related to environmental issues. The journal covers typical subjects of environmental sciences and technologies such as.: Drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, solid waste treatment, solid waste management, cleaner production, air pollution management, resource recovery, water pollution, soil contamination, and other relevant fields. JSTL published by the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) only accepts original scientific works that have not been published by other medias. All incoming articles will be reviewed in advance by competent reviewers before being eligible for publication. JSTL (e-ISSN 2502-6119) has been accredited by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia.

Abstract

Hydroxyl radical is a highly reactive oxidizing agent that can be electrochemically generated on the surface of Boron doped diamond (BDD) anode. Once generated, this radical will non-selectively mineralize organic pollutants to carbon dioxide, water and organic anions as the oxidation products. Its application in Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) to degrade nonbiodegradable even the recalcitrant pollutants in wastewater has been increasingly studied and even applied.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Garbage is one of urgent problems in urban area. The lack of idle lands in urban area make garbage problems more difficult. This research is conducted in Yogyakarta City that has been done the garbage management successfully. Objective of the research is to describe and classify the garbage management models implemented by the society. This research uses survey methods that is encode the region where the garbage management is implemented, with the direct interview to respondents and questionnaire as a means of data collecting. The descriptive analysis is applied in this research. The research shows that garbage management activity that has been applied in some locations is good enough by developing three model of garbage management. This research also suggests networking among government, society figure, and urban society to reach the best garbage management.

Abstract

As the human and economic costs of natural disaster events have dramatically increased over the past three decades, governments, researchers and humanitarian agencies have increasingly focused on reducing disaster impacts and increasing the resilience of individuals, households and communities. Recent disaster recovery efforts have focused on implementing a holistic social-ecological disaster risk reduction approach popularized through post-2004 tsunami recovery programs under the mantra of ‘building back better’. Although this approach has been increasingly adopted by various government and humanitarian organizations to describe their recovery and reconstruction activities, defining what is meant by ‘better’ and measuring ‘better’ as an outcome has been difficult to conceptualize and operationalize. In order to rectify this gap in the literature, the Post-Disaster Sustainable Livelihoods, Resilience and Vulnerability framework (PD-SLRV) was developed for the purposes of analyzing, evaluating and monitoring disaster recovery using the concepts of vulnerability, resilience and sustainable livelihoods.Using the 2006 Yogyakarta, Indonesia earthquake as a case study, this paper will explore how the concepts of vulnerability, resilience and sustainable livelihoods inform the disaster recovery process, the nature of the relationship between these concepts as well as their usefulness in evaluating disaster recovery efforts. Through a detailed analysis of the various vulnerabilities and resiliencies that exist within recovering communities, the complex and dynamic nature of resilience and vulnerability is revealed, indicating a multifaceted relationship dependent on scale, context and place.

Abstract

Many developing countries have ventured to disaster management programs in the desire to minimize if not, eradicate disaster vulnerabilities and improve the coping skills of the people. Many ICT solutions have been developed and unfortunately, many of these are just one-time big-time solutions. Usability, transparency, costs of the systems and sustainability had become some of the issues. It is in this light that a working model of partnership between the academe and the local government unit (LGU) as a community is shaped. The academe takes the initiative in this endeavor. The tie-up is intended to support the LGU to become more responsive in managing its resources and addressing the needs of its constituents. The paper imparts the experience of the academe’s ICT project incubation for a community and further leads to a meaningful cooperation with the LGU. The ICT project developed is a flood prediction and mapping system for the province of Bulacan in the Luzon island of the Philippines.
