The Indonesian Journal of Occupational Safety and Health is an open access and scientific journal published by the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Airlangga, and supported by Indonesian Occupational Safety and Health Association (AHKKI) East Java Region, Indonesian Occupational Health Experts Association (PAKKI), and Indonesian Industrial Hygiene Association. The journal aims to publish original articles and review articles on recent developments related to occupational health and safety. Articles were published after a peer-review process with two reviewers and the editor. Since 2017, this journal is published regularly three times a year, in April, August and December. Since 2019, all articles have been published in English. This journal has been certified as a Scientific Journal by the Indonesian Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (RISTEKDIKTI) since October 3, 2022 valid through August 2026 (SINTA 2).

Abstract

ABSTRACTFatigue is one of the problems experienced often by workers. Feeling of fatigue is subjective because every person is influenced by several factors deserve and need special attention as a follow-up in order to avoid problems in the health of workers. Toll collector is one of the employees at toll road developer that has an important task in the operation of toll roads. The objective of this research to determine the relationship of several independent variables included age, gender, exercise habits, monotonous circumstances and workload, work climate and noise toward to the dependent variable, fatigue. This research was analytic observational methods of data collection and cross sectional design.. The sample in this study was a toll collector at one of toll road developer taken from the population using simple random sampling. Variable testing performed using spearman correlation analysis and contingency coefficient. Variables studied had a relationship with fatigue if p < 0.05. There are 34 workers (50.7%) had mild fatigue. Statistical analysis showed weak correlation to the variables gender (p = 0.004), exercise habits (p = 0.033), state of monotony (p = 0.008), work climate perception (p = 0.011) , and the noise perception (p = 0.033) of the relationship with the occurrence of fatigue. So fatigue was influenced by several factors such as individual factors, job factors, and work environmental factors.Keywords: fatigue, toll collector, subjective

Abstract

Pharmaceuthical department is one of many department in RSUD Kota Madiun which serve hundreds of patients everyday. Workers on pharmacuthical department has been found having unnatural working posture on their work process, where many workers tend to complain about having low back pain problems. One of suspected problem is unnatural working posture. Unergonomic position, repetitive works, sit for long periods were few of ergonomics problem which occurred everyday. This research aimed to identify work posture and musculoskeletal complaint on pharmaceuthical department workers. This research used cross sectional approach, with population sample were all worker on pharmaceuthical department RSUD Kota Madiun and there are eight people in total. Primary data on this research collected using questionnaires, Body Mass Index measurements, interviews, and observations. Collected data from questionnaires, interview, and Body Mass Index measurements were processed, and the processed data will be analyzed using qualitatif methods of deep interview. The result showed most of worker were having high riks of having musculoskeletal problem based on RULA and REBA evaluation. Most of musculoskeletal complaints were located on their waist, hip, upper neck an lower neck. Hospital should give the workers egonomical training so that workers could avoid having unergonomical posture which lead to musculoskeletal problems. Workers should doing more often aerobic exercise.Keywords: muscoloskeletal complaint, work posture

Abstract

Contact dermatitis is an inflammation of skin which is caused by a substance that sticks to somebody’s skin. The cause of contact dermatitis is physical factor, a substance of plants, and other chemicals. One of prevention contact dermatitis because of working is the usage of personal protection equipments like mask, gloves, goggles, shoes, and body protection. The objectives of this research was to analyze the relation between the characteristics of worker, the completeness and the hygiene of personal protection equipments with the contact dermatitis occurrence in the house of compost Jambangan Surabaya. The methodology of this research was observational using cross sectional approach. The target of this research was all workers who have worked in the house of compost Jambangan Surabaya as 21 people were taken by total sampling technique. The variable that was observed included contact dermatitis occurrence, gender, the history of skin allergy, age, knowledge, attitude, action, and the completeness of using personal protection equipments. The primer data was taken by interview with questionnaire paper and observation. The secondary data was taken from the house of compost Jambangan Surabaya. Then, data that was taken from questionnaire was analyzed by descriptive as the narration form. The result of this research explained that the completeness of using personal protection equipments by the worker have not completed yet and for the main characteristics of the worker was their knowledge. The conclusion was using complete personal protection equipments could prevent contact dermatitis of the worker in the house of compost Jambangan Surabaya.  Keywords: Individual characteristics, Completeness and The hygiene of personal protection equipments, Contact dermatitis

Abstract

Hazards are potentially harmful. In the gas industry that has raw materials, tools / machinery, production and hazardous environment must use the completely and correctly. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the implementation of safety inspection and compliance with the use of PPE in H2, CO2 and dry ice plant in PT. X Region Gresik.This research is descriptive observational research, using cross sectional research design. The sample was 6 workers as sample interview and observation and 1 (one) HSE officer as sample of interview. The data collection includes safety inspection and the compliance of plant workers in the use of PPE. The data analysis used in this research is presented in tabular and narrative form, then using cross tabulation to see whether there is a correlation between the conformity of the number of PPE, the condition of PPE to the worker compliance in the use of PPE.The results showed that majority workers did not use PPE, the number of is not suitable with the number of workers, the condition of PPE is not feasible and compliance of the use of PPE plant workers is still low. Significant linkage between the availability of PPE TO compliance with the use of and the lack of significant correlation between the condition of PPE to the compliance of usage.The conclusion of this research is low frequency of safety inspection. Should increase frequency of safety inspection. And also HSE officer officer in carrying out safety inspection. The suggestion is to increase the compliance of workers in the use of PPE. Keywords: Safety inspection , PPE.

Abstract

Poultry sellers is one of the jobs potentially impaired pulmonary function. Impaired pulmonary function status of workers caused by external factors and internal factors. The aim of this research was to identify factors which cause impaired pulmonary function the poultry sellers in bird market in Kupang Surabaya. This research used cross sectional design. Data obtained by the measurements, examination and questionnaire. The sample of this research is 20 respondents which drawn from 10% of the total population. Data were analyzed by cross tabulation. The measurements result of dust levels, SO2, NO2, NH3 and H2S respectively 0.3848 mg/m3, 0.0047 mg/m3, 0.0207 ppm, 0.0638 ppm, 0.0002 ppm were below the TLV. Pulmonary function test results of 20 respondents, there were 13 (65%) of respondents have normal status of pulmonary function and 7 (35%) of respondents impaired pulmonary function with details of 4 (20%) of respondents mild obstruction, 1 (5%) of respondents restriction mild and 2 (10%) of respondents mixture. The conclusion of this study are the pulmonary status of respondents in Surabaya Kupang bird market not affected by external factors such as exposure to gas and dust, but affected by internal factors such as age, years of service, and years of smoking history. There is no association between the nutritional status of respondents with pulmonary function status. Respondents should reduce cigarette consumption and conduct regular health checks.Keywords: pulmonary function status, sellers poultry, bird market

Abstract

Boiler is a tool produced steam. The operation of boiler produce hazard that can cause accidents in labor. The purpose of this research is to risk assessment for accidents work in the operation of boilers in PT. Indonesia Power Unit Pembangkitan Semarang. This research is observational. The object of this research is boiler. The subject of this research is coordinator and operator boiler. The primary data was obtained from observation and interview, while secondary data from the corporate documents. The result showed that boilers in PT. Indonesia Power Unit Pembangkitan Semarang were 3 unit of water tube using fuel MFO and HSD. The identification hazard obtained 12 findings hazard on 9 areas the operation boiler PT. Indonesia Power unit Pembangkitan Semarang. The hazard in the area of boiler are noise, hot weather, fire sparks, hit, pinched hand, discover water vapor, high pressure, electricity, contact with a steam pipe, amount of oil, exposed NaOH liquid, and slip and fall down from the height. On controlling value, there were 6 hazards that classified as in very good control, 3 hazards were classified as partly implemented, and 3 hazards were classified as implemented. The residual risk was obtained 5 category risk with no risk and 7 risk categories low. Conclusion that can be drawn are hazard boiler in PT. Indonesia Power Unit Pembangkitan Semarang have high risk of are hazard discover water vapor and the high pressure. The company suggested to perform maintenance and reduce the risk to a low.Keywords: risk assessment, work accidents, boiler

Abstract

scavenger is one of job that have a risk for the health or work safety cause usually interact with the garbage as a source of disease factor and can be a good place for disease vector development. The purpose of this study is to know the skin disease that happens at scavenger from occupational safety and health aspect. The population are 43 people , and the sample amount is 33 people which found from simple random sampling technique. The result showed that most of damage excerpter are women with work period from more than 4 years, work in less than 8 hours a day. From 33 people, 27 people have skin disease, with 7 people got tinea unguium diagnosis.. Another kind of skin disease that found at scavenger are, tinea korporis, tinea falvalis,tinea versikolor, candidiasis, karbonkel, folikulitis, dan miliria rubra that cause of mush,parasite, and high perspiration activity. Skin disease can happens cause of the more of cloth using and high temperature climate and less of personal hygiene from damage scavenger work pattern.

Abstract

ABSTRACTUnsafe action is a trigger for work accident. Unsafe action happened for two reasons, such as unintentional mistakes and active errors or violation of a rule. Unsafe action influenced by the internal factor from workers itself, such as characteristic of workers. The objectivs of this research is to aims of this study are analyze the relationship between the characteristics of workers to unsafe action, in stevedor at PT. Terminal Petikemas Surabaya. This study was observational Descriptive. The sample was all stavedore in a group of which consisted of 60 people. The data presented in the form of distribution the frequency and tabulation cross then analyzed statistically the Spearman. The result of this study shownthat there was an relatively low association between the characteristic of workers with unsafe action, but there was one variable had the strong enough relationship, such as knowledge variable and unsafe action on stevedore in PT. Terminal Petikemas Surabaya with coefficient corelation 0.417. Based on the result of this study, suggestions that can be given to the HSE departement are scheduled refreshment through training and briefing to increase knowledge of occupational safety and health at work, meanwhile supervisor of field have to do a strict and firmly supervise to stevedore who performing unsafe action. So it expected to reduce the number of work accident in the process of loading and unloading.Keywords: Stevedore, unsafe action, characteristic of workers

Abstract

ABSTRACTEmployee ignorance on Standard Operational Procedures (SOP) is one of the main causes of workplace accidents. This study was conducted to analyze the correlation between path goal leadership implemented by Gresik steel factory supervisors and employee obedience on company SOP. This study applied quantitative approach and cross-sectional research design. The data were collected through observation and interview on 52 respondents consisting of employees working led by 4 different supervisors. Systematic random sampling is used for sampling method. In-depth interviews were conducted to gain more information regarding the variables analyzed in this study. The independent variables analyzed in this study were path goal leadership style implemented by the supervisors and the dependent one is SOP obedience. This study found that employee obedience level on company SOP of each working units is 86% for drilling unit; 78.57% for marking and cutting unit; 100% for assembly unit; and 41.67% on painting unit. The results of Spearman correlation test indicated that path goal leadership style implemented by the supervisors significantly correlated with obedience level of the employees on company SOP with p < 0.05. there were positive correlation among the variables with correlation coefficient 0.416 (p = 0.001). Based on these findings, it could be concluded that the better path goal leadership style implementation made by the supervisors the higher employee obedience level on company SOP.Keywords: leadership style, Path Goal Theory, SOP obedience, occupational safety

Abstract

PT. X is one of the companies that produces iron pipe in Indonesia. Unit of production I PT. X threading part used work shift system. Few months ago there was an accident happened to a night shift workers threading part, and it caused them to be rushed to the hospital and got medical help. The purpose of this research was to analyze the difference between unsafe action on work shifts threading of PT. X. This research was an observational descriptive study that used crossectional approach. The population of this research was all workers shift threading part of PT. X which were consisted of 30 people. Determination of the sample was using total population method that involved 30 people. This research used primary data based on the results of observation, interview and secondary data from the company. The results showed that the highest frequency of low unsafe action was at morning shift wich was 96,7%. But it got decreased until 90% at evening shift, and got decreased even more until 60% at night shift. The difference of unsafe action can be caused by lack of supervision about safety at evening shift and night shift, and it can be caused by disturbed circadian rhytm of the workers’ bodies. The company should increase the coordination about unsafe action supervision between HSE and related supervisor. Advice to workers, especially night shift workers, are optimizing the leisure time while waiting the materials and use it for getting some rest to keep their body away from fatigue conditions.Keywords: unsafe action, work shift
