Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study examines the impact of macroeconomic variables, namely the exchange rate, interest rates, industrial production index, SBIS and inflation on the Indonesian Islamic stock index. This study uses monthly data from May 2011 to December 2018. This research is a quantitative study that applies the Johansen Cointegration Test and Vector Error Correction Model to see the long-term impact and shock response on certain variables. The findings indicate the existence of short-term and long-term causality between macroeconomic variables and the Indonesian Islamic stock index. Especially in the long run, industrial production index and inflation have a significant effect on ISSI, while the exchange rate, interest rates and SBIS have no significant effect on ISSI. IRF results show that the response of each variable and stable at different times. The ISSI response experienced a positive shock that occurred in the industrial production index and inflation. On the other hand, the exchange rate, the Bungan rate and SBIS were responded negatively by ISSI.

Abstract

This study aims to prove the effect of operational costs, investment returns, claims and minimum risk-based tabarru' funds partially and simultaneously on the contribution of Islamic general insurance in Indonesia 2015-2018. This study uses a quantitative approach with secondary data in the form of publication of annual Islamic financial statements and sample selection using a purposive sampling technique. The amount of data is 11 companies with observations over four years to obtain 44 observational data used as samples in this study. The technique used is regression analysis using a fixed effect model (FEM) panel data. The results illustrate that partially, minimum variable costs based on operational risk, claims, and tabarru' funds have a significant positive effect on participant contributions. Thus proving that the higher the minimum operational costs based on claims, and tabarru' 'will influence the determination of participant contributions. As for investment returns, it has no effect on determining participant contributions because funds can be allocated to increase assets. Simultaneous statistical test results from operational costs, investment returns, claims, minimum risk-based funds are influenced by participant contributions. This research suggestion should be that Islamic general insurance companies can conduct regular audits on the use of operational costs to make it more efficient so that the allocation of contribution costs can be directed towards the growth of assets or minimum risk-based tabarru' funds of the company. Keywords: Contribution, Islamic insurance, Participant, Risk-based, Tabarru' funds

Abstract

The use of digital payment in Indonesia has increased rapidly. The number of users continues to grow every year, making various zakat institutions, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf start innovating to raise funds using a digital payment system. This excellent innovation seems in contrast with the amount of of zakat funds, infaq, waqf, and alms collected; it is still far below the potential number of funds. Many factors influence the intention to pay of the Muslim community in paying zakat, infaq, endowments, and alms. Some factors that need to be investigated are religiosity and trust factor. The aim of this research is to analysis the religiosity and trust factor towards intention to pay zakat, infaq and endowment. Based on that statement, questionnaires will be given to 200 respondents to determine the effect of these factors on the intention to pay of the Muslim community in paying zakat, infaq, endowments, and alms. Using mix methods between quantitative and qualitative, the data is primary from questioner. The result of this study shows that each religiosity and trust has insignificant and significant related to the intention to pay zakat, infaq, endowments, and alms. However, trust as intervening variable could affect religiosity indirectly, regarding its impact towards intention to pay. Keywords: Digital Payment, Intention to Pay, Religiosity, Trust, ZISWAF

Abstract

The success story of waqf development in Singapore has been significantly acknowledged. The successful experience warrants for learning models for comparative experiences among other Muslim countries in Asia. This study document and analyze to share two main research objectives related to the Waqf practices. First, it aims to explore and elaborate on the dynamics of waqf administration and property development in Singapore. Second, analyzes the significance of past altruistic waqf landmark activities towards the Muslim community in Singapore. Based on prior studies, this research phenomenon has yet to be addressed and highlighted in any previous study. A qualitative approach with a case study research design is applied in this research. In-depth semi-structured interview sessions with 4 private mutawallis are complemented with reviews of relevant documents. This study finds that external factors, including mandatory acquisition by the government, higher living costs, and several legal restrictions represent the main challenges to the waqf sector in the country. On other hand, effective governing roles played by MUIS as waqf authority in the country enable the initiative of new waqf type and redevelopment of existing waqf properties. In the present time, these endowed properties provide benefits not only for the Muslim community in Singapore but also to significant other beneficiaries outside Singapore. The findings of this study indicate that the legacy of waqf inspires altruism in the modern Singaporean Muslim community. It becomes the basis for contemporary waqf practice among Muslims in Singapore and assists them to be a self-sustaining passionate and harmonic community. Keywords: Altruism, Legacy, Muslim Community, Singapore, Waqf

Abstract

This study examines the impacts of Indonesia's country risks (i.e. financial risk, political risk, and economic risk), exchange rate, oil prices, and industrial production index on the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII). This research use monthly data from January 2003 to March 2016 with a quantitative research approach that applies Johansen Cointegration Test and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to see the long-term impact and response of shocks on certain variables. The findings show the existence of short-term and long-term causalities between macroeconomic variables and the Jakarta Islamic index. Specifically, in the long run, financial risk, oil prices, and exchange rates have a significant positive effect on Jakarta Islamic Index, while economic risks and industrial production index have a significant negative on Jakarta Islamic Index. This finding shows that investors consider financial risks, economic risks, and exchange rates in investments. This finding also tells the government that several important macroeconomic indicators need to be considered. Keywords: Country Risk, Macroeconomic, Jakarta Islamic Index, Vector Error Correction Model, Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of long-term and short-term global stock index on the Indonesian Islamic stock index. The approach used is a quantitative approach and uses the Error Correction Model (ECM) method. ECM is an analytical model that can be used in time series data to estimate the effect of independent variables on long-term and short-term use variables. The sample used was taken from secondary data, namely global stock index data consisting of the DJIA, N225 and HSI indices, and the Indonesian sharia stock index in the form of the ISSI index in the period of January 2013 to December 2017, so that 60 samples were obtained. The test results show that in the long run, the DJIA and HSI indices have a significant positive effect on the ISSI index, while the N225 index has a significant negative effect on the ISSI index. In the short term, only the DJIA index has a significant positive effect on the ISSI index. Keywords: Dow Jones Industrial Average, Hang Seng Index, Indonesian Sharia Stock Index, Nikkei 225, Error Correction Model

Abstract

As one of the members of the Organisation of Islamic Corporation (OIC), Indonesia has excellent trade prospects. Therefore, this study has a purpose to examine the impact of macroeconomics factors on trade between Indonesia and intra-OIC countries. The variables of macroeconomics in this study consist of country risks, inflation, exchange rate, oil price, and economic growth. Quantitative is the right method for this study, applying Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression with the help of EViews. The data used for the analysis is a time horizon with annual frequency from 1986 to 2016. Furthermore, finding shows that almost all variables of macroeconomics play an insignificant role in determining the trade between Indonesia and Islamic countries. However, the oil price is the only variable to show its contribution towards trade between Indonesia and intra-OIC countries. The results indicate that macroeconomic variables do not contribute to the key decisions for conducting trade internationally. Political factors and bilateral treaties become better variables to explain Indonesia's trade with other Islamic countries. Keywords: Country Risk, International Trade, Macroeconomic, Organisation of Islamic Corporation, Indonesia.
