Abstract

Fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEE) are the result of biochemical reactions in the body after drinking alcohol acutely. In general, alcoholic drinks contain ethanol, which can be analyzed chemically as ethanol and its metabolites. Metabolite of ethanol are the result of ethanol oxidation reaction and the reaction of ethanol with endogenous compaounds in the body. One of the metabolites of ethanol is an ester compound resulted from the reation of ethanol with fatty acids. This study aims to prove the existence of FAEE functional group as one of biochemical markers in acute alcohol consumers. Two groups of wistar rats were given distilled water (control group) and 20% alcohol (treaed group) every day for 1 week. Biochemical markers analyzed are FAEE. This research was conducted in two phases: the first phase, is the treatment of rats with acute alcohol. The second phase, analysis of chemical compounds: FAEE with Infra Red Spectrophotometer. Wistar rat blood samples taken 6 and 24 hours after drinking alcohol acutely were analyzed qualitatively. Functional Groups indicating the presence of FAEE are C-H (3600-2500 cm-1), the ketone group (C = O) appears at 1870-1540 cm-1, stretching vibration of CO or C-C (= O)-O at 1190-1140 cm- 1.

Abstract

Cationic porphyrins and their interactions with DNA have become an important concern due to its role as a photosensitizer in photodynamic therapy for cancer treatment. However, this therapy technique has the disadvantage, i.e. its inability to document photographically the fluorescence observed endoscopically. The present research aims to observe the change in molecular level of cationic porphyrins which labeled by radionuclides emitting ? particle and ? radiation. Molecular models of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-[3.4-bis (carboxymetylenoxy) imidazoliumyl] porphyrin (T3,4BCImP), 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-[3,4-bis (carboxymetylenoxy) pirazoliumyl] porphyrin (T3,4BCPzP) and its complexes which labeled by Tc and Re radionuclides were optimized and calulated by density functional theory methods (DFT). Atomic charges were calculated with natural population analysis/NPA method. The calculation result showed that Tc-T3,4BCPzP has the highest photosensitivity and the strongest affinity to DNA. Carboxylate groups of meso-subtituent of porhyrins lead to label cationic porphyrins by Tc and Re as radiopharmaceutical ligand candidates .

Abstract

A research on the Combination of Organic Matter (the ratio of C:N) in the Sludge Treatment of dying waste has been conducted. The sludge was mixed with organic matter wich were dried leaves and dung in various compositions. The compositions (sludge : organic matter) made were 3 : 7, 1 : 1, and 7 : 1.In this research it was found that the first composition contained the highest organic matter (the lowest C : N = 28.05/1) and showed the best effect to the composting process indicated by physical characteristics. The Compost with the lowest ratio C:N (17,71/1) gave the best total N, organic C, available K, and available P contents which were 0.98%; 17.90 %; 22,092.1894 ppm; and 568.2312 ppm respectively. All composts had organic C and total N that meet the SNI 19-7030-2004, and high available P and K contents. These were in agreement to the evaluation of fertility analysis. More over, all compost showed physical caracteristic such as temperature, colour, texture, and odour that are in agreement to those of SNI 19-7030-2004. Unfortunately the pH did not meet the SNI 19-7030-2004.

Abstract

Research on optimation of the type of solvent in natural dye found in extracs of kepok banana’s stem (Musa paradiasiaca L. cv kepok) and susu banana’s stem (Musa paradiasiaca L. cv susu) has been carried out. The obtained natural dye was determined for its rendement, natural dye groups, and the maximum absorption at 400 – 700 nm. Maseration of 100 g of dry powder of kepok banana and susu banana stems were conducted using four kinds of solvent namely, ethanol, acetone, and n-hexane. From kepok banana’s stem thick extracts 9.21 grams water; 3.19 grams ethanol; 1.23 grams acetone; and 0.21 grams n-hexane were obtained, whereas from susu banana’s stem were 12.13 grams water, 3.31 grams ethanol, 1.42 grams acetone, and 0.17 grams n-hexane thick extracts.Extracts obtained were concentrated, and then the rendements were determined. The redements from the kepok banana’s stem, were : water (36.84%), ethanol (12.67 %), acetone (4.92 %), and n-hexane (0.84%), whereas from susu banana’s stem, were : water (28.52%), ethanol (13.24%), acetone (5.68 %). and n-hexane (0.68%),The result of the fitochemical test showed that the natural dye on kepok and susu banana’s stem using four solvents was flavonoid. whereas tannin on both types of banana’s stem was only found in ethanol, acetone, and n-hexane extracts.Analysis using spectrophotometry UV-vis showed that n-hexane extracts gave the maximum absorption greater than the other solvents. The absorbance of kepok banana’s was 0.992 at 607.0 nm and of susu banana’s was 0.905 at 669.5 nm.

Abstract

The study aims to (i) isolate white galangal (Alpinia galanga) and red (Alpinia purpuruta) rhizome extract compound, (ii) examine its bioactivity against Staphylococcus mutans, and (iii) investigate its usage as an active substance in tooth paste in the laboratory. The result of the study indicates that the extract of n-hexane of red galangal has a higher bioactivity effect against Staphylococcus aureus compared to the white one. The examination of the experimental tooth paste with an addition of 1 % active substance (extract of n-hexane, namely D and J fractions) indicates that the diameter of resistance against Staphylococcus aureus formed by D fraction is higher (15.5 mm) than the positive control (15 mm). Meanwhile, an addition of active substance of 1.5 % D and J fractions indicates a higher diameter of resistance (16.2 mm and 14.7 mm) compared to positive control.. IR and GC-MS analysis indicates that the most dominant compound existing in D fraction is 2-metil -1-(o-tolil)pentanol, while the most dominant compound in the J fraction is 2--ethyl-5-methyl benzoic acid.
