Abstract

Abstract. This study aimed to know the impact and contribution of awareness to group performance in learning chemistry. The purposive sampling technique is the sampling technique used. Data analysis technique used is multiple linear regression, partial regression coefficient, and correlation. The samples used 43 chemistry students. Data collection techniques used observations, instruments of emotional intelligence and ECGN (Emotional Competence Group Norms). The results showed that except for X1, the constant value of regression increased by the value of X2-X5 variable that increased, it means that there was a slight increase. The t test shows that there is no impact of self awareness on group performance with points t h < t tb (-0.817 < 2.026), lack of contribution of variable X to Y with R Square value 8,1% (0,081), and sign> 0,05.Keyword: Self-Awareness, Group Performance, Learning Chemistry.

Abstract

Abstract. The oil palm is type of plantation sector with the largest commodity being developed by state-owned, private-companies, and also smallholders in South Kalimantan. The total area and production of oil palm in 2017 in South Kalimantan are 455.674 ha and 1.3 million ton, respectively. Oil palm wastes such as empty fruit bunch and oil palm frond are residue from palm oil industry can be utilized as cellulose and hemicellulose feedstock which can be converted into second-generation bioethanol as fuel substitute and xylitol as low caloric sweetener for sugarcane substitute. This article to discuss the potential, process, and opportunity for utilization of lignocellulosic waste of oil palm in South Kalimantan as raw material for bioethanol and xylitol. Keywords: lignocellulose, oil palm, bioethanol, xylitol

Abstract

Abstract. Thinking skills is strongly influenced by the working of brain. The brain is the center of all activities including thinking. Therefore, the learning that regard and develop brain potential to develop high order thinking skills in students is required. The reason to do this research is because the lack of training given to students in optimizing the ability of their brain in thinking, which generally use the lower order thinking such as remembering and memorizing. The use of Brain-Based Learning (BBL) strategy will be an opportunity for students to develop their thinking skills for their cognitive achievement. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of BBL strategy to metacognitive skills of biology students in Borneo Tarakan University. This is quasi experiment research with pretest-posttest control group design. Population in this research is all of biology students who program Cell Biology course. Students of A and B class are the sample of this research. Data analysis used is descriptive and inferential statistic technique. The results showed that BBL strategy is more effective influencing metacognitive skills compared with multistrategy. The average score in the class with BBL is 51.81 higher than the average score on the class taught with multistrategy that is 41.94.Keywords: Brain-Based learning, thinking skills, metacognitive.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aimed to know how ChemBird media usage get effect on the interest and the organic chemistry academic achievement in STKIP YAPIM Maros biology student. This research used descriptive quantitative approach which in a true experiment. Biology students with academic year 2015/2016 were population with 51 students as a sample through random sampling technique used. Data collection techniques used observation method, documentation, questionnaire and test. Data analysis technique used multivariate analysis. The result showing is that, the average of posttest result in biology class I (experiment) reach 54,73 and biology class II (control) reach 47,69 thru Manova test. Then, it concluded that there is no effect ChemBird media usage on the students’ interest, but there is influence it on academic achievement. Keywords: chembird media, interest, academic achievement

Abstract

Abstract. Cassava has a low selling value because it contains cyanide acid (HCN) which is deadly, while papaya seeds contain flavonoids, tannins and saponins are beneficial to health. How to increase the selling value of cassava and papaya seeds by processing modified cassava milk with the initial method, ie cleaned cassava, soaked 72 hours with 4% w / v NaHCO3, soaked 1 hour with 15% w / v salt, soaked 24 hours with 0,1% w / w starter Bimo-Cf, then stirred at 75-80 oC and fermented for 3 days using Fermipan (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and Raprima (Rhizopus oryzae). The fermentation results were added aquadest and papaya seeds (20 and 40% w / w) stirred at 70-75 oC. Then dried to produce modified cassava milk. Modified cassava milk was intervened in mice for 28 days with dysplinemic treatment. The results showed the greatest decrease in HCN content in modified cassava milk with addition of 40% w / w of papaya seeds at Saccharomyces cerevisiae (2.052 ppm) and Rhizopus oryzae (2,160 ppm). The best increase in protein content was obtained by addition of 40% w / w of papaya seeds in Rhizopus oryzae (4.06%) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (3.30%). The decrease of total cholesterol total of the best dysplinemic rats was obtained from modified cassava milk of R. Oryzaae variation with the addition of 20% papaya seeds by 60.45% and 40% papaya seeds by 40.63%..Keywords: papaya seed, cholesterol, Rhizopus oryzae, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, cassava.
