<![CDATA[It is commonly believed that learning language is also understood as learning culture. This means that when somebody learns a new language, say for example, English, he or she will automatically also learn English culture. In some cases, this belief may be true. In other cases, however, the direction of learning language and culture is not always linear. A sentence produced by a language learner may linguistically and culturally be correct for the other learners of the same language background, but when it is spoken to someone else of different language background it might cause misunderstanding. This misunderstanding occurs not because of the words used in the sentence are weird or the grammar applied is violating the rule of English language system, but it is because of the utterance is not culturally accepted.  It is this difference of culture that causes such kind of misunderstanding. To this phenomenon the teaching of literature is assumed to be able to minimize this misunderstanding.  ]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this research is to know the technique of teaching speaking at SMP Islam Terpadu Ukhuwah Banjarmasin. The researcher used qualitative design-multisite type and collected data through participant observation, interview and document. The gotten result are: (1) guided speaking, short conversation, role play and rubric, (2) the use of techniques are depend on the studentsâ level and their ability, (3) those techniques are implemented based on its steps, and (4) there is no better or worse technique among of them, each technique will give best result depends on the studentsâ level and their ability.]]>

<![CDATA[The degree of learning assistance services through face-to-face tutorial presented to the university students of the Open University will bring about an impact on the height of participation of the university students in the implementation of that tutorial and in the end it will affect the learning achievement of the university students. This research is intended to know the perception of the university students of S1 PGSD UPBJJ-UT Banjarmasin toward the learning assistance services in the form of that face-to-face tutorial. This kind of research is a survey research by using the data collecting instrument in the  form of questionnaire. The subject of the research is all the university students of S1 PGSD Classroom Teachers of the Open University (UT) within the 2014 registration period of the 1st semester, numbering 30 university students. The research result has shown that 37,25% of them are very satisfied, 62% of them are satisfied, and the remaining 0,75% of them are not satisfied with the services of face-to-face tutorial. ]]>

<![CDATA[One parameter of the professionalism of teachers is teachers teach according to their fields. Therefore, dissemination of subject teachers of each school should be evenly distributed. This study is aimed to describe the spread of the teachers at the Junior High School (SMP) as Hulu Sungai Selatan (HSS). This type of research is a survey. The subjects were teachers throughout the district SMP HSS. Data were collected through: questionnaires, interviews, observation and documentation. The results showed the overall number of teachers for the subjects of Religious Education and Character , Pancasila and Citizenship Education ( PPKn ) , Indonesian , English, Mathematics , Natural Sciences (IPA), Social Sciences ( IPS ) , and Physical Education and Health has been fulfilled , but the distribution is yet uneven.]]>

<![CDATA[Based on the observation in the physical science instruction, especially in the material of harmonic vibration at SMAN 1 (Public Senior High School), Palangkaraya Municipality, it has been found that the instruction is only focused on the knowledge aspect of harmonic motion, but not yet focused on how to train the studentsâ KPS (Science Process Skills). One of the solutions being able to train the KPS is the instruction model of POE (Prediction, Observaation, Explanation). The goal of this research is to train the mastery of the studentsâ science process skills and to know the result of the studentsâ cognitive learning after they have followed the instruction by implementing the POE model in the material of harmonious vibration. This research is a pre-experimental research. The research has been implemented in the 11th class of MIA 1 SMAN 1, Palangkaraya. Based on the research, it has been known that: (1) 20% of the students having the mastery of KPS with very good category, 55% of the students having the mastery of KPS with good category, and the remaining 25% of the studentsâ having the mastery of KPS with sufficiently good category, and (2) the completeness of the cognitive learning result showing the completeness of 36 students and the non-completeness of 4 students or 90% of the students in the 11th class of MIA 1 SMAN 1 Palangkaraya have reached the completeness.]]>

<![CDATA[Curriculum is the foundation of the teaching-learning process. One of the most important activities of the university is the development of curriculum or course outlines in consonance with the national and international demands and realities.This study was conducted to the 29 alumni of English Department of Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teachers Training. The data needed were the perspective, opinion and suggestion from the alumni of English Education Department Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teachers Training of IAIN Antasari Banjarmasin. These data gained from the result of questionaire, in depth-interview and documentation. This research found out  that the course of English department curriculum has given perspective for alumni which most of them said that this curriculum has been run well and have good content. The courses have to be developed to address specific set of needs and to cover a given set of objectives. This English curriculum develop studentsâ awareness of the learning process and their role as learners by developing their knowledge and skills, how to use reference words, design to assist them in independent study, awareness of their own learning styles, strengths and weakness, familiarity with various techniques, foreign culture and nature of learning strategies.]]>

<![CDATA[The Open University is a higher education institute which applies a long distance learning system requiring the university students to learn independently. But, due to various factors, among others, their habit of depending on the information directly presented by the teacher, the majority of the university students have not yet been able to learn independently. One of the methods that can be used to cope with this problem is the tutorial learning pattern. Tutorial is one of the forms of service and learning guidance given to the university students in order to help them to achieve an optimal learning result through face-to-face tutorial, written tutorial, internet tutorial, radio tutorial, and computer-aided tutorial. The tutorial process is guided by a tutor playing the roles of facilitator and motivator. The performance of a tutor affects the tutorial results very much. Based on the research result, it was known that the performance of the tutors of UPBJJ-UT Banjarmasin in 4 learning groups (pokjar) â namely those in the regencies of Tapin, Hulu Sungai Selatan, Hulu Sungai Utara, and Tabalong â toward the mastery of the materials had obtained the average score of 3.14 in the Good category.]]>

<![CDATA[This study were purposed to know the procedures of discussion technique and to find out the strengths and weaknesses of discussion technique when it was used to teach speaking. The research was a descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the research was the eighth grade students of MTSM 3 Al-Furqon Banjarmasin. The data were taken from observation, field notes and the interview. Further, the data were analyzed qualitatively. It was found that the implementation of discussion technique in teaching speaking was suitable with the procedures of discussion technique based on the theories. There were five stages that were implemented during teaching speaking using this technique and those procedures covered learning activities and studentsâ tasks to develope studentsâ pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and expression. The implementation of this technique gave strenghts and weaknesses. The strenghts were: 1) discussion technique could promote studentsâ speaking skil, 2) discussion technique could improve the class condition, and 3) discussion technique could improve the studentsâ participation in the speaking activities. While the weaknesess were: 1) some of students tended to be out of the tasks, and 2) teacher got difficulties to manage the time during discussion. In conclusion, the procedure of discusion techique was implemented properly and this technique gave more strenghts than weaknesess.]]>

<![CDATA[The general purpose of this action research is to describe the effectivity of the direct instruction (DI) model application in increasing the university studentsâ potential scientific basis in Basic Physics 2 under the subject of basic electrostatics. To study the materials and solve the problem of physics in this lecture, the scientific basis competence in the form of procedural skill and declarative knowledge is needed. The research result has shown that the effectivity of the instruction application in increasing the university studentsâ scientific basis competence is 76,4% in the effective category. It is suggested that in the lecture of Basic Physics 2, it is best for the lecturer to apply the direct instruction (DI) model, especially in increasing the university studentsâ scientific basis competence in depicting, presenting, and   explaining the meaning of the basic physical formula of Physics. ]]>
