Abstract

Study of blood profile of Macaca fascicularis in wild habitat was conducted using 29 blood samples of  adult Macaca fascicularis from Alas Purwo National Park and Baluran National Park, East Java. Blood samples of Ketamine-anaesthetized Macaca fascicularis were taken via femoral vein. Data were divided according to the sex. The result showed that there was sexual dimorphisms of blood profiles of adult Macaca fascicularis. Blood profiles of the adult male were the total erythrocytes count: 4.9 ± 0.4 (x106/µl), hemoglobin titer: 10.9 ± 0.9 g/dl, packed cell volume: 35.5 ± 3.5%, blood sedimentation rate: 1.5 ± 0.2 mm/h, MCH: 20.9 ± 2.1 pg, MCV: 63.8 ± 5.7 fL, MCHC: 28.7 ± 2.5 pg, total leukocytes count: 5777 ± 551.1/µl, limphocytes 23.6 ± 1.6%, neutrophils 57.2 ± 1.7%, eosinophils 9.6 ± 0.5%, and monocytes 9.6 ± 0.6%. Blood profiles of adult female were the total erythrocyte count: 3.9 ± 0.5 (x106/µl), hemoglobin titer: 8.8 ± 1.7 g/dl, packed cell volume: 32.1 ± 4.1%, blood sedimentation rate: 1.3 ± 0.3 mm/h, MCH: 20.5 ± 4.2 pg, MCV: 74.8 ± 9.9 fl, MCHC: 24.1 ± 4.7 pg, total leukocytes count: 5244.4 ± 1017,9/µl, limphocytes: 22.9 ± 1.8%, neutrophils 56.3 ± 1.7%, eosinophils 11.2 ± 0.7%, and monocytes 9.6 ± 0.6%.

Abstract

This retrospective study was conducted to know the relation between time and frequency of mating on litter size of Golden Retriver  in Denpasar Region. Mating incident records of 19 Golden Retrievers from 8 kennels were compiled to be analyzed. These data can be use as a reference in effort to maximize the amount of  Golden Retriever clans. The result showed that the three times of mating on the 10th , 12th and 14th day after onset of proestrus produced the most litter size 10 ± 2.82. However, mating twice on wice on 9th and 11th after onset of proestrus produced a litter size of 8.50 ± 0.70. The statistic analysis depicted that there was no significant relationship between mating frequencies and mating time on litter size.

Abstract

Bovine tuberculosis (BTB) is one the most widespread zoonotic diseases and has recently reemerged as a major health concern. The disease is caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) that primarily affects humans as its main host, and that is able to attack more hosts such as domestic animals, pet animals, and wild animals. This Cross-Sectional Study was carried out to determine the seroprevalence of BTB in Districts of Buleleng, Bangli, and Karangasem Province of Bali. One hundred and eighty cow blood samples were collected, and the serological status of BTB was detected using Elisa method. The results showed that the seroprevalence of BTB in District of Bangli was 2.22%, while, those was negative in Districts of Buleleng and Karangasem. The positive seroprevalence of BTB in Bangli indicates that the same research must be conducted throughout the districts in the Province of Bali.

Abstract

Genetic polymorphisms are variations in the genetic structure of populations that represents the base level of biodiversities.  This research aimed to assess the polymorphism of microsatellite locus of D10S1432 in the population of long-tailed macaques in Sangeh, Bali.  A total of 18 blood samples collected as a source of DNA. DNA was extracted using QIAmp® DNA Blood Mini Kit. Microsatellite locus was amplified by polymerase chain reaction technique (PCR) with a total of 30 cycles, and a 57oC of annealing temperature. Furthermore, the alleles were separated by 7% polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and emerged with silver staining. The results showed that there were three types of alleles found at D10S1432 locus in the long-tailed macaques population in Sangeh. The alleles size varied from 170 bp to 186 bp. The allele frequencies were  0.28, 0.67, and 0.05 for allele 170, allele 174, and allele 186 consecutively. The heterozygosity of the locus was 0.48. It can be concluded that microsatellites locus D10S1432 is polymorphic in the long-tailed macaques population in Sangeh.

Abstract

Performance test is a preliminary selection to choose Bali cattle stud based on qualitative and quantitative characteristics, including measurement, weighing and observation. Performance test is  applied  on rapid growth of bull  (about 1 year of age) by comparing individual performance with the performance of the group average. The number of bulls that were subjected  the  Performance test  in 2011  was 61  bulls.  Based on Performance test, the best three of the performances  namely the score of 113.30, 109.46,and 104.2  were s selected to be potential stud candidates for next Zuriat test (progeny test).

Abstract

This studi was conducted to investigate the reproductive performances  of Bali cattle under intensive management in breeding instalation Pulukan Bali from  2008  to  2010.  Totaling 298 2 - 6.5 year old heifers were use to represents the benchmark reproductive performances of Bali cattle. Data collected were age at first heat (AFH), age at first calving (AFC), calving interval (CI), and services per conception (SPC). The overall means for  AFH, AFC,and  CI  were  718.57 ± 12.65; 1104.51 ±  23.82, and 350.46 ± 27.98 days  respectively,  and SPC was 1.65 ± 0.87.
