Abstract

The lactic acid in blood and meat can accelerate rigor mortis and reduce the quality of the meat, because the meat will rot quickly, thereby reducing its selling power. Increased levels of lactic acid in the blood / meat can be caused by improper cutting processes. This study aims to see the levels of lactic acid in the blood as monitoring. The experimental animals were used by 30 healthy pigs slaughtered at the slaughterhouse in Sanggaran, Denpasar, Bali. Sampling was done purposively. The blood sample was taken as much as 3 ml from the jugular vein. Elisa method is used for determination of plasma lactic acid levels. The results showed the range of lactic acid levels was 2.10 - 2.95 mmol / dL with a mean of 2.47 mmol / dL, Sd. 0.22. These profiles are in normal condition so it is not noticed that the handling or management before and during cutting is good.

Abstract

Setiap hari diberikan salep sebanyak dua kali sehari sebanyak 250 mg.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of chitosan gel on the number of white mouse leukocytes (Rattus norvegicus) on incision wound healing. This study used 10 female white rats that were 2 months old and weighed ± 165 g, that was designed with a Split-plot design using 10 rats and was divided into 2 treatment groups with each treatment group consisting of 5 replications. Treatment I (control) incision wound smeared with gentamicin ointment, treatment II incision wound smeared with chitosan gel 2 times a day for 14 consecutive days. This study used chitosan gel with a 5% concentration. Blood sampling through the lateral tail vein as much as 0.5 ml and observation of the number of leukocytes was carried out on days 0, 3, 7 and 14 after treatment. Examination of the number of leukocytes is done with a hemocytometer and using the Neubauer method. The parameters of this study are the number of leukocytes in the incision wounds healing process in white rats. The research data were analyzed using analysis of variance based on the Split-plot Design with the SPSS program. The number of leukocytes in group I (gentamicin) vs group II (chitosan) on days 0; 3; 7; and 14 was 7.89×104/mm3 vs 7.30×104/mm3; 6.28×104/mm3 vs 10.23×104/mm3; 7.27×104/mm3 vs 10.28×104/mm3; and 7.02×104/mm3 vs 7.52×104/mm3, respectively. From the results of this study it can be concluded that the use of chitosan gel is better than gentamicin ointment in the healing process of incision wounds in white rats. The results of thisstudy can be followed by conducting research on other animals for wound treatment applications.

Abstract

Koi fish (Cyprinus carpio) is one of the freshwater ornamental fish commodities which has a very high economic value and is of high interest. Koi fish are generally transported by land. This condition can cause koi to become stressed, which has an impact on decreasing health and even disease errors. One indicator of koi health problems can be seen from the presence of E. coli. This study aims to see the Escherichia coli bacteria in koi fish kept in isolation ponds during the quarantine period using 19 samples of isolates from rectal swabs which were then taken to BBVET Denpasar for isolation and identification of E. coli bacteria. This study used an exploratory observation design with a cross-sectional method, while the sample was taken by purposive sampling. The data obtained were descriptive qualitative. The result of this study are known from 19 samples that be examined show five samples positive of Escherichia coli bacteria (26,3%) which is three samples (15,9%) came from Tulungagung koi and two samples (10,3%) came from Blitar koi.

Abstract

Blood examination is an examination for further diagnosis, one of the methods for further diagnosis was to see the morphology of red blood cells. The aim of this study was to determine the morphology of red blood cells in the local Sumatran reticulated python (Malayophyton reticulatus). Fives samples of local Sumatran reticulated python (M. reticulatus) blood were collected through the ventral coccigea vein and made a blood smear. The results obtained were analyzed using descriptive methods, the results were that the morphology of red blood cells of Sumatran reticulated pythons was oval in shape, had an oval to round nucleus, pink-purple cytoplasm and a deep purple nucleus. In addition, polychromatophilic red blood cells were also found with irregular nuclei, irregular cell shape, cell cytoplasm that was more faded than adult red blood cells and slightly smaller in size than adult erythrocytes. The conclusion is that the adult red blood cells of Sumatran reticulated pythons are oval in shape, has a nucleus, pink-purple cytoplasm and dark purple cell nucleus. The morphology of immature red blood cells is characterized by irregular nuclei, irregular cell shape and faded cytoplasm. Further research is needed to measure and count the number of the other blood cells.

Abstract

This study aim was to review the implementation of Veterinary Control Number (NKV) on five companies in Denpasar city on a small, medium and large scale. A total of five meat processing companies in the city of Denpasar carried out in the study of the application of NKV through guided assessments using a questionnaire sourced from the Indonesian Minister of Agriculture with Regulation Number 318/KPTS/OT.140/10/2005. The results showed that the meat processing companies, namely PT. Aromaduta Rasaorima, Titilestari, CV. Dwi Boga Utama and UD. Asa Barokah Mandiri have applied the NKV process of Level 2, which means that it still has the right to obtain NKV in good category (towards export qualifications). Whereas UD. Budi in this study has applied the NKV process of Level 3, which means that they still has the right to obtain an NKV with sufficient categories. The results above show that meat processing companies in Denpasar need to optimize the application of NKV standards in order to achieve a better level.

Abstract

Egg quality can determine the fertility and reproductive efficiency of chickens. Selective breeding of Kambro chickens might have influenced the egg quality. This study aims to determine the influence of a selective breeding program on the egg quality of two Kambro chicken generations, F1 Kambro (F2K)-crossbred and F2 Kambro (F2K)-inbred. Inbreeding coefficient (F) and rate of inbreeding (Fx) of F2K chickens were calculated. The egg collection record was analyzed based on its productivity, phenotype, weight, index, and exterior egg quality parameters. Exterior egg quality parameters were analyzed with mathematical formulae. Egg productivity in Hen Day Production (HDP) of F1K and F2K chickens for 270-days, respectively, was 24% and 16.5%. The heterosis value of F2K chicken was -31.25% indicating an inbreeding depression in egg productivity. The egg phenotype of F2K was classified into light-brown, cream, brown, and white. The mean egg weight (EW) of F1K and F2K, respectively, was 53.34 ± 2.34-grams and 54.92 ± 9.25-grams, thus were classified as small eggs. The eggshape index of F1K and F2K, respectively, were dominated by sharp eggs and round eggs. Exterior egg quality parameters of F1K and F2K based on GMD could be used as a predictor variable, meanwhile Sp (r = 1, p<0.001) could not be used to describe the disposition of the regression curve. The Fx and F values of F2K, respectively, were 4.925% and 25% close to the tolerance level of inbred-line inbreeding depression. Inbreeding depression was correlated with productivity and egg characteristics depression between F1K and F2K. Parental selection in a selective breeding program must be based on several factors, including inbreeding depression, inbreeding coefficient, inbreeding rate, and egg quality. The implementation of genomic selection may provide a solution to minimalize the effect and fluctuations of Fx and F.
