Abstract

Blood examination is an examination for further diagnosis, one of the methods for further diagnosis was to see the morphology of red blood cells. The aim of this study was to determine the morphology of red blood cells in the local Sumatran reticulated python (Malayophyton reticulatus). Fives samples of local Sumatran reticulated python (M. reticulatus) blood were collected through the ventral coccigea vein and made a blood smear. The results obtained were analyzed using descriptive methods, the results were that the morphology of red blood cells of Sumatran reticulated pythons was oval in shape, had an oval to round nucleus, pink-purple cytoplasm and a deep purple nucleus. In addition, polychromatophilic red blood cells were also found with irregular nuclei, irregular cell shape, cell cytoplasm that was more faded than adult red blood cells and slightly smaller in size than adult erythrocytes. The conclusion is that the adult red blood cells of Sumatran reticulated pythons are oval in shape, has a nucleus, pink-purple cytoplasm and dark purple cell nucleus. The morphology of immature red blood cells is characterized by irregular nuclei, irregular cell shape and faded cytoplasm. Further research is needed to measure and count the number of the other blood cells.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the efficacy of giving jatropha cream (Jatropha curcas L.) on the number of leukocytes in the inflammatory phase of wound healing in the mice’s skin. The method used is literature study research with qualitative techniques. The data used in this study comes from the result of studies that have been conducted and published in national or international online journals. References used are all research articles with data selection. The results of data analysis showed that the administration of jatropha cream (Jatropha curcas L.) was effective in limiting or inhibiting the accumulation of leukocytes in the area of inflammation and could stimulate the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) in the inflammatory phase of wound healing of the mice’s skin. Based on these data it can be concluded that the efficacy of jatropha cream (Jatropha curcas L.) affects the number of leukocytes in the inflammatory phase of wound healing of mice's skin.

Abstract

Many people favor quail eggs because they contain good nutrients, and are easy to obtain at an affordable price. This research was conducted to study the effect of temperature and storage time on the quality of quail eggs. The samples in this study were 66 quail eggs which were divided into two groups, the first group (33 eggs) was stored at 27oC, and the second group (33 eggs) was kept at 5oC. This study used a completely randomized design with two factors, temperature and storage time. The observation was carried out on days 1, 7, 13, 19, 25, and 31 with triplicates. The parameters used in this study were air sac height, egg yolk index, white egg index, and Haugh Unit (HU). This study showed that temperature and storage time affected the quality of quail eggs. Eggs stored at 27oC showed a quality decrease indicated by higher air sac position, and lower egg yolk index and egg white index. Eggs kept at 5oC showed no significant degradation. The HU for both groups ranged between 76-81 which implied that the eggs had AA quality even after 31 days of storage.

Abstract

This study aims to isolate the balakacida (Chromolaena odorata) endophytic bacteria from Aceh Besar and to test its antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Balakacida leaf samples were isolated and purified using nutrient agar (NA) media, followed by morphological observations and antimicrobial in vitro tests using a disk diffusion assay (Kirby Bauer). The results showed that a total of 50 endophytic bacterial colonies were isolated from the balakacida and 12 selected endophytic bacterial isolates had different morphologies from cream to yellowish cream color, then after antagonist test directly screening obtained four endophytic bacterial isolates which had the potential as antimicrobial. The results of in vitro antimicrobial tests showed that the four isolates of balakacida endophytic bacteria (BEA-1, BEA-2, BEA-3, and BEA-4) were able to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria S. aureus and P. aeruginosa with the diameter of the zone of inhibition was 16.03 mm - 19.75 mm (medium inhibition category) and 15.35 mm - 21.24 mm (weak to strong inhibition category), respectively. Based on these results, it can be concluded that BEA-2 isolate has the strongest inhibition of 21.24 mm, so that it has the potential as an antimicrobial candidate for P. aeruginosa and can be used as an alternative antimicrobial product.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the inhibition activity of ethanolic extract of binahong leaf (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) on Staphylococcus aureus. Bacteria were obtained from the Microbiology Laboratory of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Unsyiah, isolated from the honey bear (Helarctos malayanus) wound area. This experiment was conducted with re-identification of the bacteria before treatment. Afterward, the bacteria were treated with ethanolic extract of binahong leaf with a concentration of 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% by using the disc diffusion (Kirby-Bauer) method. The data were analyzed descriptively by measuring and comparing the inhibition zone among treatments. The results showed that the treatment could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, however, the inhibition zone was narrow with a mean diameter of 20% was 6.8 mm, 40% was 7.4 mm, 60% was 8.2 mm, and 80% was 8.1 mm. It can be concluded that ethanolic extract of binahong leaf had comparative inhibition activity toward Staphylococcus aureus.
