Abstract

Benoa Bay is semi-enclosed waters that have various activities. The existence of these activities will contribute to organic matter in the waters so that the effect on the presence of bacteria. This study aims to determine the total concentration of total organic matter (TOM) and bacterial abundance as well as its spatial and temporal distribution, and to determine the relationship of TOM concentration to bacterial abundance in the waters of Benoa Bay. Data collection is conducted on the surface of the waters in December 2016 to February 2017 when ebb conditions at 5 Benoa Bay water stations. Measurement of organic matter using permanganate test in titimetry based on standard methods SNI 06-6989.22-2004. Measurement of bacterial abundance using Total Plate Count (TPC) method. The TOM concentrations ranged from 63.20 to 65.10 mg/l and bacterial abundances ranged from 30 to 300 CFU/ml. Spatial distribution of TOM concentration and bacterial abundance tends to be higher close to Suwung Landfills (TPA) activity, floating net cage cultivation (KJA) activity in Serangan waters, and Buaji river estuary and tend to be lower approaching Benoa harbor activity and waters further from those activities. The concentration of TOM and bacterial abundance in December 2016 to February 2017 have fluctuating values. Based on the interpretation of the correlation coefficient, the level of relationship between BOT concentration and bacterial abundance in the waters of Benoa Bay is quite strong.

Abstract

Mangrove forest is tropical coastal vegetation that grow on muddy and sandy soils which affected by sea tides. One of important commercial species that live in mangrove ecosystem is the mud crab (Scylla serrata). Feed and water quality have been considered as critical components for supporting the growth both of weight and carapace length of this species. This study was conducted from January to February 2017 in the area of ??Ecotourism Kampung Kepiting, Bali. The influence of different natural feed such as Jerbung shrimp (Penaeus merguiensis), Mollusca, lemuru fish (Sardinella lemuru) and sea worms (Nereis sp.) on the growth performance of the mud crab were investigated. Water quality parameter data such as pH, DO, temperature, salinity and ammonium were also collected. The obtained data were analyzed by using variance analysis of Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) version 21. The result showed that the use of different types of feed have no effect on the length of carapace, but it has significantly influence on the specific growth rate of mud crab. Finally, different types of the given feeding were still resulted in the save range of water quality parameters for mud crab culture.

Abstract

The population of olive ridley has declined in Indonesia, so that efforts are needed to preserve this turtle population through conservation. In conservation of olive ridley, the selection of the precise feed will affect for a good growth. Feed that has high protein content one of them is dried rebon shrimp and tongkol fish. The utilization of feed from dried rebon shrimp and tongkol fish, especially mix feed of these two feeds for olive ridley baby is still very limited information. This research aims to determine the comparison growth rate of olive ridley with a feeding of tongkol fish, dried rebon shrimp and mixed feed also to know the percentage of feed efficiency. The research was conducted for six weeks at the conservation center TCEC Serangan, Bali. The design method used was Completely Randomized Design (CDR) with one control and three treatments, each treatment getting five repetitions. ANOVA analysis was used to analyze the mean differences between groups and the calculation of feed efficiency was performed to see the percentage of feed that was most efficient in the body of the hatch. The results showed different feeds gave different growth rates. The high protein on mixed feeds has produced the highest growth rates compared with dried rebon shrimp and tongkol fish feed. Similarly, the percentage efficiency of mixed feed is more efficient compared with dried rebon shrimp and tongkol fish feed.

Abstract

Benoa Bay is an estuary that effected by pollutan from river and human activity. Reasearch on spatial and temporal distribution of nitrate and phosphate has been conducted in Benoa Bay. Data was collected at water surface during ebb from December 2016 to Februari 2017. There were19 Sampling pointlocated in Benoa Bay and 6 pointslocated in rivers around Benoa Bay. Nitrate was analysed using Brucine method and phosphate was analysed using Amm-Molybdat method. The concentration of nitrate from December 2016 to February 2017 ranged from 0,036 mg/L to 1,154 mg/L and the concentration of phosphate ranged from undetectedto 0,739 mg/L. The concentration of nitrate at rivers ranged from undetectedto 3,584 mg/L andthe concentration of phosphate ranged from undetectedto2,405 mg/L. The concentration of nitrate and phosphate from December 2016 to February 2017 was fluctuating and the highest average concentration of nitrat and phosphate was found in February 2017. These was due to high rainfall in February 2017 and cause a lot of organic matters carried by the rivers into Benoa Bay. The highest distribution concentration of nitrate and phosphate was found around estuary. These due to input of organic matters from mainland through the rivers. Based on water quality standards of Bali Goverment, the concentration of nitrate and phosphate was exceeds the seawater quality standart.

Abstract

Utilization of radar satellite data to monitoring vessels distribution in regard to combating IUU fishing is a newly developed in Indonesia. Ship detection using radar satellite data performed with high accuracy which is about 79% to the size of the boats between 24-81 meters (averaging 45 meters). However, information about accuracy of the radar satellites to detect small traditional fishing vessel are not yet widely available, and making this study is very important to conducted. The research was conducted at the west part of Belitung Island waters using RADARSAT-2 satellite data to detect vessels distribution which was acquired by radar ground station Perancak at October 25, 2016 and also using vessel position data which is acquired by using GPS tracker. There are 10 traditional fishing vessel was used as a sample, in accordance with the availability of GPS tracker. All vessels are made from wood with the size between 11 to 15 meter and using ‘bubu’ as a primary fishing gear to catch fish. Accuracy test was done using overlay analysis between vessel distribution information resulted from radar image analysis with the vessel position data coming from the GPS Tracker. Result showed that the accuracy of radar data on extended high incidence beam mode to detect the distribution of traditional fishing vessels with small size (11-15 meters) is about 30% and over estimate measuring between 7.5 to 8 meters.
