Abstract

Fiddler crabs (Uca spp.) are one of the mangrove fauna that has an important role of food chain within the scope of mangrove, which is as a deposit eater. The mangrove area in Kampoeng Kepiting has been damaged due to reclamation for Bali Mandara toll road construction, which can interfere the survival/existence of Fiddler crabs. Therefore, it is necessary to do a research concerning the abundance of Fiddler Crabs in Kampoeng Kepiting mangrove area. The aim of this study is to determine the type and abundance of Fiddler crabs and to discover the coherency among Fiddler Crabs abundance in the manner of c-organic matter content in Kampoeng Kepiting area. Fiddler crabs samples were carried out using 1×1 meter quadrant transect by digging as deep as 30 cm. The abundance of Fiddler crabs was analyzed under the Krebs equation. The results from this study indicate Fiddler crabs were found in Kampoeng Kepiting area ,i.e. Uca demani, Uca coarctata, Uca dussumieri, Uca bellator, Uca lactea perplexa, Uca tetragonon, Uca chlorophthalmus crassipes, Uca lactea annulipes, Uca triangularis, and Uca vocans. The highest Fiddler crabs abundance were found at station 4 which is 72±4,2 ind/m2, whilst the abundance of Fiddler crabs (Uca spp.) at station 5 is (33±1,2 ind/m2). The c-organic matter content has a strong relationship with the abundance of Fiddler crabs in Kampoeng Kepiting mangrove area (r = 0,91). This study shows that mangrove conditions in Kampoeng Kepiting are still able to support Fiddler Crabs (Uca spp.) existence.

Abstract

Batur Lake is one of the natural lakes in the province of Bali where the activity of fishing, agriculture, tourism and housing available. This study aims to determine the effect of nitrate relation to the natural growth of the water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes). Increased water hyacinth biomass in Songan station is the highest among the three other stations (Batur, Buahan, and Trunyan). At the end of the study (day 42 ), water hyacinth biomass of Songan station increased by 338.2 % from the initial weight, while at another station the increase weight ranges from 75 % -158 %. The highest daily growth rate in Trunyan station 3.68% / day, and the lowest in station Buahan which only reached 0.88% / day. At the Songan station where are many floating net which contribute to increase nitrate. There is a tendency of growth of water hyacinth faster at higher nitrate conditions. Nitrate conditions ranged from 0,35 to 0,62 m /l which shows that the waters of Batur Lake classified into waters that have a high fertility rate (eutrophic).

Abstract

Seaweed culture is one of the main marine and fishery commodities which mostly still occupied by coastal community in Badung regency. One of the center areas for seaweed culture development is at Kutuh Beach in Kutuh Village South Kuta District, Badung regency . Kutuh Beach also known as Pandawa Beach that have developed become a tourism area. The development of Kutuh beach as tourism area affect the development of existing seaweed culture activities. Therefore, a study have been done to get scientific information related to the development of seaweed culture in Kutuh coastal water. This research was conducted at in September-October 2016. The data was collected by carrying out measurements directly on the location of seaweed culture of Eucheuma cottonii at Kutuh coastal water. The data collected in this study including the growth of seaweed Eucheuma cottonii and the quality of Kutuh coastal waters, such us nitrat, phosphate, temperature, salinity, pH, and dissolved oxygen (DO). Our study showed that that the quality of Kutuh Pantai waters is still in good condition for the growth of seaweed except Phosphor that can inhibit the growth of seaweed. Instead of phosphor, seaweed can not grow well in the waters of Kutuh Beach because it is eaten by predators and low intensity of sunlight.

Abstract

Seaweed farmers on Kutuh Beach experienced problems in seaweed cultivation activities, namely that seaweed cannot grow well. This is due to the large number of predators that ate seaweed in the cultivated area. One method that can be used to overcome this problem was using bags in seaweed cultivation. The purpose of the research that was carried out in July-October 2018 was to determine the effect of using bags on seaweed cultivation in Kutuh Beach waters. The method used in this research was experimental using two treatments (planting seaweed using bags and without bags) and three replications. Water quality parameters measured as supporting data ware DO, pH, salinity, temperature, nitrate, and phosphate. The result of this study was the growth of seaweed cultivated using bags is better than the growth of seaweed cultivated without bags.

Abstract

Mangrove forest is tropical coastal vegetation that grow on muddy and sandy soils which affected by sea tides. One of important commercial species that live in mangrove ecosystem is the mud crab (Scylla serrata). Feed and water quality have been considered as critical components for supporting the growth both of weight and carapace length of this species. This study was conducted from January to February 2017 in the area of ??Ecotourism Kampung Kepiting, Bali. The influence of different natural feed such as Jerbung shrimp (Penaeus merguiensis), Mollusca, lemuru fish (Sardinella lemuru) and sea worms (Nereis sp.) on the growth performance of the mud crab were investigated. Water quality parameter data such as pH, DO, temperature, salinity and ammonium were also collected. The obtained data were analyzed by using variance analysis of Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) version 21. The result showed that the use of different types of feed have no effect on the length of carapace, but it has significantly influence on the specific growth rate of mud crab. Finally, different types of the given feeding were still resulted in the save range of water quality parameters for mud crab culture.

Abstract

Seaweed is a low-level plant, does not have exact roots, stems, and leaves, and the plant part is called the thallus. One species that is often cultivated by the seaweed farmers in Bali is Eucheuma cottonii. The initial weight of the seeds planted can affect the growth of seaweed. The results of the study found that good seaweed seeds used ranged from 50-150 g, but has never been studied in detail on E. cottonii using floating raft method. This study aims to determine the initial weight of seaweed seeds that are good for growth using the floating raft method where the seeds are placed in a bag. This study consisted of 3 treatments, namely treatment A with a seed weight of 50 g, treatment B with a seed weight of 100 g, and treatment C with a seed weight of 150 g. This research was conducted at Pandawa Beach, Bali, from March-April 2021, which data was collected once a week for 7 weeks. The results showed that the growth of seaweed increased every week and different between treatments. The final weight of seaweed in treatment A was 558.83 g, treatment B was 552.167 g, and treatment C was 529.67 g. Seaweed growth in treatment A was higher than treatment B and C. The average Specific Growth Rate (SGR) in treatment A was 4.92%, treatment B was 3.48%, and treatment C was 2.57%. The best results from the seeds used were found in seedlings with an initial weight of 50g, compared to the weight of other seeds (P<0.002).
