Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of online gambling on the productivity and financial health of college students in Medan. The rapid development of digital technology makes college students increasingly vulnerable to online gambling, which is often associated with negative impacts on social, financial, and academic aspects. This study used an associative quantitative technique with 100 students selected non-probabilistically. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire with a Likert scale and analyzed using simple regression in SPSS 25. The study found that online gambling negatively impacts productivity (β = -0.057; Sig. = 0.480) and financial health (β = -0.021; Sig. = 0.627). However, the impact was not statistically significant. These findings indicate that college students' awareness of financial risks, supported by religious and cultural norms, plays a role in mitigating the negative impacts of online gambling practices. However, online gambling still has the potential to cause real problems such as wastefulness, debt, and poor personal financial management. Therefore, it is recommended that universities and policymakers strengthen financial literacy programs and educate students about the dangers of online gambling to increase student resilience to digital gambling practices. Keywords: academic productivity, financial health, online gambling, risk awareness.

Abstract

Working students face challenges in balancing academic demands with the jobs they do to meet financial needs or gain practical experience. This study aims to explore the role of social support in helping students who work in the food and beverage industry in Samarinda City achieve a balance between work and academic life. This study employs a qualitative research design with a descriptive approach to explore the role of social support in achieving work-life balance among students working in the food and beverage (F&B) industry in Samarinda City. A qualitative approach was chosen because it allows for an in-depth understanding of participants' life experiences, perceptions, and social interactions within their educational and work environments. The research subjects consist of three informants, all of whom are students working part-time in the food and beverage industry. Two informants work as baristas, while one informant works as kitchen staff in local cafes and restaurants in Samarinda City. The informants were selected using purposive sampling, a sampling technique commonly used in qualitative research to select individuals who have relevant experience and can provide rich and in-depth information related to the research problem selection.subjects was based on several considerations. First, students working in the F&B sector often face irregular working hours, customer service demands, and performance pressures, making them prone to experiencing conflicts between work and study. The results of the study show that working students apply careful time management strategies to maintain a balance between their studies and work. Social support, whether from family, friends, or self-support, proved to play an important role in reducing stress and improving their well-being. Although challenges such as difficulty in managing time and heavy academic workloads remain, the emotional and practical support provided by the surrounding environment is very helpful in achieving this. This research provides insights into the importance of social support in managing the work-life balance of working students, as well as its contribution to their well-being and academic success. Keywords: Students working, social support, work-life balance, time management

Abstract

This research investigates the effect of transformational leadership on enhancing the quality of Social Science teachers. The leadership model is explored through four main dimensions: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. Teacher quality improvement is assessed using Juran’s trilogy framework, which consists of quality planning, quality control, and quality improvement. The study was conducted at Yayasan Al Kautsar Cirebon, involving three school principals and six teachers representing MI, MTs, and Ulya levels. Several research gaps were identified: (1) the influence of each leadership dimension varies depending on the school context; (2) there is a need for broader and more comprehensive indicators of teacher quality; and (3) the relatively small sample size limits the generalizability of the findings. A quantitative approach with a survey design was applied, and data were processed through descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation to examine variable relationships, and linear regression to determine the most dominant leadership factor in improving teacher quality. The findings demonstrate that transformational leadership significantly and positively contributes to teacher quality improvement, with intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration emerging as the strongest predictors. Based on these results, the study recommends that principals emphasize these two aspects to strengthen instructional quality through diverse teaching strategies. Keywords: Leadership Transformational, Quality Improvement, Social Sains Teachers.

Abstract

Civic disposition is a fundamental component of civic competence, encompassing the attitudes, values, and cognitive practices that facilitate democratic participation. This study aims to analyze the trends, themes, and evolving trajectories of research on civic disposition, as well as its implications for improving civic education in the digital era.   The research gap exists because few comprehensive mapping studies utilize both bibliometric and systematic review methods. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, conforming to the PRISMA framework, in conjunction with bibliometric analysis sourced from the Scopus database. From the 336 identified documents, 12 essential articles were selected and analyzed using VOSviewer to illustrate keyword co-occurrence, author collaboration, and country affiliation networks. The findings indicate that research on civic disposition is limited and predominantly conducted in the United States, with emerging contributions from Indonesia.  Three principal research clusters were delineated: (1) civic education and contentious issues, (2) teacher training amid global crises, and (3) the integration of civic disposition with civic knowledge and competencies. The findings suggest that civic education should encompass reflective, participatory, and value-centered pedagogies, grounded in Pancasila and enhanced by digital technology, to cultivate democratic and virtuous citizens capable of confronting the challenges of the 21st century. Keywords: civic disposition, civic education, bibliometric analysis, PRISMA, Pancasila

Abstract

This study analyzes the phenomenon of declining voter participation in the 2024 Cirebon Regency Regional Head Elections (Pilkada). This phenomenon is of concern because political participation is an important indicator of the quality of local democracy. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors causing the decline in participation and to analyze its implications for the democratization process at the regional level. Using a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, this study involved various elements of society, such as religious leaders, village officials, youth, students, and election organizers. Data were collected through field observations and in-depth interviews with key informants, then analyzed thematically to find patterns and meanings behind the phenomenon. The results show that the decline in voter participation is influenced by a combination of structural and cultural factors, including low political awareness, increased population mobility, the policy of regrouping polling stations (TPS), and growing apathy towards local politics. Young voters and urban communities tend to be indifferent due to a lack of political literacy and disappointment with regional head candidates who are considered to bring no change. The regrouping of polling stations, which increases the number of voters per location, also reduces the convenience and effectiveness of voting. These findings imply the need for strategies to increase participation through continuous political education, innovation in voting systems that are adaptive to citizen mobility, and political campaigns based on concrete ideas and programs to restore public trust in the democratic process. Keywords: political participation, regional elections, Cirebon, apathy, local democracy.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of multicultural education based on local values in the multiethnic community of Kayu Aro. Kayu Aro is home to various ethnic groups, including Kerinci, Javanese, Minangkabau, and Batak, who have long coexisted in shared social, cultural, and economic spaces. Although this diversity has given rise to harmonious social practices such as interethnic cooperation, tolerance toward cultural traditions, and the use of Javanese as a lingua franca, these values have not yet been systematically integrated into the formal educational process. As a result, lessons on diversity in schools often remain abstract and detached from the students’ lived experiences. This research adopts a mixed methods approach, with concurrent triangulation design. Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews and field observations, while quantitative data were obtained through student surveys measuring their understanding of multicultural values. The findings show that local values possess strong potential to serve as a foundation for multicultural education, particularly in fostering students’ awareness of the importance of coexistence in a plural society. However, the absence of structured efforts to incorporate these local narratives into school curricula and teaching strategies remains a significant barrier. This study recommends the integration of local values into school practices as a contextualized and culturally responsive approach to multicultural education one that is equitable, experience-based, and rooted in the social realities of students. Keywords: Multicultural Education, Local Values, Multiethnic Society, Contextual Learning

Abstract

To address the need for practical skills in the creator economy era, this study evaluates the comparative effectiveness of Metaverse Based Learning, Online Learning, and Blended Learning models on students' cognitive competence. This study fills a crucial research gap by providing a quasi-experimental comparison within a developing country context, where technical constraints are a critical variable. Employing a mixed-methods approach anchored in a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design (N = 90), data were collected using a validated cognitive competency test (α = 0.796) administered as a pre/post-test, supplemented by participant observation and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using N-Gain and ANCOVA, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The results revealed a paradox: quantitatively, there was no statistically significant difference (p = .376) among the groups, with all models proving equally effective (N-Gain "High" category). However, qualitative findings consistently revealed that Metaverse Based Lerning was fundamentally superior in fostering interaction, active participation, and spontaneous creativity not observed in the other groups. The implication is that while all three models are equivalent for standard knowledge acquisition, Metaverse Based Learning offers a far superior potential for developing active and creative learners, a potential that was likely suppressed by technical constraints and not captured by the standard cognitive test. Keywords: Metaverse Based Learning; Quasi-Experimental Design; Second Life; Blended Learning; Online Learning.
