Abstract

This study explored the integration of torque concepts into the local wisdom of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), emphasizing the application of these principles in everyday activities. The research aimed to connect abstract physics concepts with culturally relevant practices to enhance physics education. Using a descriptive qualitative method, field observations were conducted on 17 pesantren activities, with data collected from 10 students in Pamekasan. Direct observation and photography documented movements related to torque, such as during prayer, ablution, and other daily tasks. The findings identified 29 torque-related movements, including actions like performing ablution and making adzan. These traditional practices were analyzed for their application of force, pivot points, and lever arms, demonstrating their alignment with the concept of torque in physics. The study concluded that integrating these cultural activities into physics education not only aids in understanding theoretical concepts but also enriches the learning experience by incorporating students' cultural backgrounds. This approach promotes a more meaningful and engaging physics education while respecting the cultural values of pesantren students.

Abstract

The motivation to learn, together with the implementation of the independent curricula and the Pancasila (P5), has to go hand in hand with the development of environmental literacy to raise conservation awareness. This study aims to assess the significant influence of learning motivation on students' environmental literacy, especially concerning environmental pollution. Data collection methods include questionnaires and observations. Surveys gather data, while observations allow for a direct understanding of the observed phenomenon or behaviour. The result of the regression test with a constant value of ∝ environmental literacy is 18.358, and the directional coefficient/βX is +0.775; the higher the motivation to learn, the higher the level of environmental literacy. The significance value obtained from the ANOVA test was 0.000, below the 0.05 threshold. This result indicates that the hypothesis tested demonstrates a statistically significant effect. Therefore, learning motivation has been shown to improve eco-literacy significantly. The research concludes that learning motivation is essential in the learning process, serving as a driving force that enhances students' engagement, understanding, and overall academic success so that it can improve students' eco-literacy.

Abstract

Ethnoscience studies play an important role as a source of knowledge because they are based on local wisdom and involve traditions that occur in everyday life according to the contextual conditions of the local community environment so that they can be applied and absorbed by the community. Local wisdom and traditions can be in the form of local food, one of which is Wu’u. Wu’u is a local food made from corn that has existed and been passed down from generation to generation by the ancestors of the Ende Regency community as an alternative food made during times of famine and as provisions because of its long-lasting nature. However, along with the development of the era, the traditional knowledge of the community about the processing of local Wu’u food is threatened with extinction due to the lack of information passed down from previous generations due to the development of the era. This study examines the scientific concept of processing local Wu’u food with an ethnoscience approach. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative in the form of direct observation, interviews, and documentation, as well as literature studies from journals and other reference books. The results of the study indicate that the indigenous knowledge of the Ende district community related to the process of making Wu’u consists of several stages of processing which are then transformed into scientific knowledge, so that from these stages of processing Wu’u has the opportunity as a source of learning science. The concept of scientific knowledge contained in the local Wu’u food processing process includes concepts of physics, chemistry, biology, and technology.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in enhancing students' science achievements through meta-analysis study. By selecting documents in Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Sinta Database using the PRISMA method, 20 documents were obtained and covering 29 studies from 2016 to 2024 which were analyzed using a random-effects model by R-Studio Program. The study results indicate that PjBL has a significantly positive impact on students' science achievements, with an average effect size of 1.12. Variability analysis revealed that the effectiveness of PjBL varies based on the education level, the type of skills developed, geographical location, and sample size. The highest effectiveness of PjBL was found at the elementary and high school levels, with a greater impact on the development of soft skills than cognitive skills in science achievement. The impact of PjBL was also more significant in Africa compared to Asia and Europe. This study underscores the importance of integrating PjBL into the educational curriculum to enhance student achievement in science learning, especially in diverse contexts. These findings provide a strong foundation for educators, policymakers, and researchers to develop and implement effective PjBL strategies.
