Abstract

One of the main components in farming is planting media.Agood planting medium has the criteria that it is able to maintain the moisture contentof the root area, there is sufficient air and the availability of nutrients. This study aims to determine the physical and chemical properties of the growing media mixed with organic matter. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with treatment of planting media types consisting of 100% soil (v) as control, soil mixed with husk charcoal 50%:50% (v/v), soil mixed with cocopeat 50%:50% (v/v) and soil mixed with sawdust 50%:50% (v/v). Parameters observed were physical properties including texture, volume density, particle density and chemical properties including nutrient content of N, P, K, pH, EC and organic matter. On the physical properties, namely the texture of the growing media increased in the value of the fraction of sand and clay, the volume densityandparticle densitydecreased after mixing with organic matter. In the chemical properties of nutrient content (N, P, K), EC and organic matterareincreased. The pH value of soil and soil mixed with rice husk charcoal has a neutral pH criteria, while the planting medium soil mixed with cocopeat and soil mixed with sawdust has a slightly acidic criteria.

Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze land differences with Roraktreatment and without Rorakon the physical and chemical properties of the soil. The analysis used is quantitative descriptive by processing primary data (physical and chemical properties of soil) and secondary data (data from the study of literature and climate data in the researcharea). The results showed differences in the physical properties of the soil in each treatment. The specific soil gravity without a Rorakwas higher (1,26 g/cm3) than the Roraktreatment (1.24 g/cm3). The weight of the soil volume in the treatment withoutrorak was higher (0.89 g/cm3) than in the Roraktreatment (0.55 g/cm3). The porosity in the rorak treatment was higher (55.5%) than without the Rorak(29.5%). The maximum moisture content of the Roraktreatment was 82.54% higher than without rorak 68,35%.The results showed the chemical properties of the soil showed that there were differences in the chemical properties of each treatment. Soil chemical properties in Roraktreatment had higher levels of Nitrogen (0.50%), Phosphorus (7.33 ppm), Potassium (0.42 me/100 g), and C-organic (4.1 %) than treatment without RorakNitrogen (0.16 %), Phosphor (7.18 ppm), Potassium (0.24 me/100 g), C-Organic (2.3%). Making a Rorakwith a length of 1.50 m, a width of 1.00 m in 0.40 m, the capacity of which is 0.60 m3, thewater in the rorak will run out in an average of 1.96 hours with an average water infiltration rate 0.32 m3/hour. The optimal amount of Rorak/ha is 336 because it has an available water volume of 201.60 m3/ha/day. This amount can meet the water needs of coffee plants, which is 180 m3/ha/day.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ethanol vapor treatment on the quality and shelf life of Siamese citrus fruits at room temperature. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 3 different volumes of ethanol; 0 ml, 3ml, and 6 each were trapped in 5 grams of carrageenan which had been 10 ml of distilled water and put into a tea sachet. Sachets are then placed on styrofoam bases where there are 5 Siamese oranges, then covered with LDPE stretch film plastic. Siamese citrus fruit without treatment or control is provided as a comparison. The fruit is then stored at room temperature (28 ± 20). Weight loss, damage intensity, vitamin C, total acid, total dissolved solids, color, hardness, and organoleptic tests were observed during storage. The results showed that the general ethanol steam treatment had a significant effect in reducing the level of damage, weight loss slowed the rate of change in hardness, skincolor, total dissolved solids and vitamin C compared to controls. Similarly ethanol vapor is able to provide a higher panelist preference for color, taste, aroma and overall appearance compared to controls. From the various treatment volumes of ethanol 6 ml ethanol packaging creates the best vapor to slow down the rate of damage, change the quality, reduce shrinkage and increase the preference of panelists.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the performance of grain milling machines and the percentage of capacity used, in order to assess the financial sustainability of the grain milling business. Financial sustainability was analyzed using NPV (Net Present Value), IRR (Internal Rate of Return), and BCR (Benefit Cost Ratio). NPV indicates the difference between cash generated by the investment and the required investment value. IRR shows whether an investment is feasible compared to alternative rates of return. BCR evaluates the comparison between the value of benefits and costs at present value. The analysis of operational performance showed that small-capacity mills contributed 21.1%, medium-capacity mills 32.3%, and large-capacity mills 47.5% to overall performance. Large-capacity mills had the highest contribution to operational performance and were considered the most viable for continued operation, while small-capacity mills were deemed less appropriate for continuation. Financial feasibility analysis indicated that NPV values were Rp. 306,400,273 for large capacity, Rp. 190,596,835 for medium capacity, and Rp. -15,890,115 for small capacity. IRR values were 48% for large, 24% for medium, and 0.6% for small capacity. BCR values were 2.18 for large, 1.75 for medium, and 1.0 for small capacity.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the modeling of electromagnetic fields against local rice varieties and to determine the electromagnetic field and the proper immersion time to produce the best rice germination. The experimental experiment used is a factorial circuit consisting of two factors. The first factor is the strength of the electromagnetic field of 0 mT, 2 mT, 3 mT and 4 mT, while the second factor is the duration of immersion consisting of 48, 64, and 96 hours. The data obtained were analyzed by verbal examination, then continued with duncan test if treatment had real effect. The results showed that the stronger electromagnetic exposure with certain voltage resulted in a decrease in the percentage of seed germination of local varieties of rice while for the immersion treatment, the longer the seed immersion resulted in increased percentage of germination of local varieties of rice. The best germination was produced at exposure of 2 mT vol tage electromagnetic field with 96 hours of immersion time for red rice varieties.

Abstract

This study aims to examine postharvest handling of lettuce in modern markets until the product is marketed and to determine the added value of postharvest handling calculated through profit margin. The research was conducted from early September to the end of October 2016 using a descriptive method with direct observation and questionnaires for data collection. The study compared postharvest handling in one modern market and traditional markets. Postharvest handling is an effort to provide added value to lettuce. In the modern market, selling 88.99 kg of all types of lettuce is sufficient to recover the cost of postharvest handling, whereas in the traditional market, 121.55 kg must be sold to restore the initial capital. Effective postharvest handling maintains lettuce shelf life and increases consumer attention and profitability in modern markets. The study found differing profit margins, with the modern market achieving 129.87% and the traditional market 25.3%. The high profit margin in the modern market indicates strong sales and the company’s ability to generate high profits at a certain sales level, while the lower margin in traditional markets reflects lower sales or higher costs relative to sales.

Abstract

The aims of this study were to determine the level of understanding of farmers on coffee cultivation and its effect on productivity. Observed cultivation aspects included land preparation, light intensity regulation, planting techniques, plant breeding, fertilizer application, pest control, plant rejuvenation, and coffee harvesting. The research involved 45 respondents selected using simple random sampling from coffee member farmers of MPIG Kintamani, Bali. The highest value among research variables was obtained in plant rejuvenation, while the lowest was in coffee harvesting. Data analysis using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA) showed three cultivation factors significantly contributing to crop productivity: land preparation, planting techniques, and plant rejuvenation. Land preparation and planting techniques had a positive effect on Arabica coffee productivity, whereas plant rejuvenation had a negative effect. Planting techniques had the most dominant influence on Arabica coffee productivity. It is expected that these findings can help improve Arabica coffee production in Bali, currently at 0.5 tons per hectare, thereby contributing to national coffee production.
