It was a correlational study involving 33 students of English Education and English Literature departments of the College of Languages and Communication Science of Sultan Agung Islamic University (UNISSULA) Semarang who were taken purposively as samples for the study. Data were collected by questionnaire of self-efficacy and a respondent-fill-form to collect data on the duration the final project completion. The result of the analysis showed that students’ self-efficacy and the duration of their final project writing completion was correlated positively at 0.994. This implies that students with high self-efficacy would likely complete the final project earlier than those with lower self-efficacy.

Different factors are involved in the process of learners’ learning English as a second or foreign language. Among them, learning autonomy, involvement and motivation and attitude toward English language learning have been claimed to positively correlate with learners’ English proficiency. In the current study, 229 English-majored final-year students at a university in Vietnam were invited to participate in a survey to explore their English proficiency level and factors that may have impacted that level. Findings revealed that students’ learning autonomy and their active participation in classroom activities are the most influential on their English proficiency level after four years of learning. As a result, the study suggests that measures should be taken to improve students’ learning autonomy and classroom involvement.

Personality of any character in a work of art has become significant to be analyzed since it contributes to the value of the story. This paper analyzes a work concerning the personality of the protagonist. Unlike most protagonists who have the role to perform the traditional traits of a hero, some protagonists on the other hand tend to depict the characteristics of a villain. Yet the protagonist is still the leading character who just fails to enact the virtue of the society. In this case, a study of the concept of anti-hero is applied in order to expose the characteristics of anti-hero through the findings of the personality of the protagonist. The object of the study is a novel by Gaston Leroux retold by Namm (2008) entitled The Phantom of the Opera which has profound sense of psychological issues related to the characters inside the story especially the protagonist. This paper exerts a descriptive qualitative method and applies the psychology approach. Using two archetypes by Carl Gustav Jung, this paper focuses on two contradictory archetypes which are the persona and the shadow. For further analysis using the concept of anti-hero, this paper will use both archetypes to identify the characteristics of anti-hero. Henceforth, this paper discovered about the portrayal of those archetypes along with the reflection of anti-hero characteristics performed by the protagonist. There are two findings, first, the portrayal of the phantom’s persona as the mysteriously creepy ghost to the society, Angel or Music to Christine and his shadow dealing with his crimes. Second, the characteristics of anti-hero used his persona and shadow to show that anti-hero is flouting the traditional hero virtue and gaining sympathy from reader even though his darker side is more dominant.

Designing a conducive and meaningful learning environment in the teaching and learning is thought-provoking tasks. The use of teaching materials will be one of the resources and normally teachers or the practitioners will need to put a lot of considerations will assist teachers in creating the desired learning outcomes. This paper aims to share the initial steps engaged in the process of creating a mobile learning concept which is applicable for Malaysian Secondary School Education. Therefore, the mixture of qualitative and quantitative measure was deployed in order to achieve the primary objective of creating a workable mobile learning concept. The findings from analysing 40 documents had unlocked a few gaps to be filled in: they enabled the focus to be on the small “l” component for the English Language secondary school syllabus as well as on the feasible methodology to be applied for the real mobile language learning context. Whereas the input from the need analysis provided more insights on how the content for the dry literature components could be arranged in the learning context. Hence, by combining the input from the documents analysis and need analysis data, they had proven to be empirically and beneficially useful steps to be taken before embarking on the actual conception of any teaching and learning design to be proposed or implemented. These initial steps had proven to be beneficial for the next stage of designing the mobile learning environment in Malaysian secondary school context.
