Abstract

Tarsubulura perarmata (Rai zel, 1868) is rcdescribed on tile basis of specimens [roin the intestine of tuild caught Tarsius sp. The specimens were compared with original description of Subulura perarmata, Ratzel, 1868 and the description by Brack and Niemitz, 1984. Inglish (1958) transferred this species to Tarsubulura perarmata and a redescription of this taxon is presented in this paper.Key words: Tarsubulura perarmata, Nematode,Tarsiers

Abstract

At least 80 species of Psocoptera are represented in recent collections from the Krakatau Islands, Sunda Strait. They represent 15 families, and 29 species are described tu new. Twenty four species are known only from the Krahataus but. others are widespread in nearby regions of Sumatra and Java and a few are known to be more broadly distributed. Numbers of species recorded from each of the Krahatau Islands are : Rakata 58, Panjang 48, Sertung 27, Anak Krakatau 27.

Abstract

Divergent adaptation to different host plants may promote reproductive isolation between hostspecific populations in phytophagous insects, since strict preferences for different host plants act as an isolating barrier between populations on the different hosts. Moreover, a high dependence on the host plants may cause additional reproductive barriers, e.g., differences in micro-spatial distribution and phenology between host-specific populations when the host plants differ in these characters. However, few studies have specifically addressed these two types of host-plant-induced isolating barriers. Here we compared the microspatialdistribution and seasonal fluctuation of two host races of the  phytophagous ladybird beetle Henosepilachna diekei (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae: Epilachnine) in Bogor, West Java, one depending onMikania micrantha (Asteraceae) and the other on Leucas lavandulifolia (Lamiaceae). In the field, M. micrantha was far more abundant and common than L. lavandulifolia throughout the year. M. micrantha wasfound in relatively moist habitats with moderate sunlight, while L. lavandulifolia was found in dry, sunny, open habitats. Consequently, the beetles depending on M. micrantha were more common and abundant than those depending on L. lavandulifolia. Although the two host races could encounter one another where the two host plants occurred in close proximity, they infrequently did so because of strict host fidelity coupledwith differences in the abundance and habitat of the two host plants. On the other hand, we detected no evidence of host-related seasonal isolation between the two host races.Key words: host race, host shift, micro-spatial distribution, phenology, seasonal fluctuation

Abstract

During taxonomic studies on the pelagic copepods of the Indonesian seas, 15 species of Pontellidae were identified for the first time from the area. The species recorded are: Calanopia australica Bayly & Greenwood, 1963, Labidocera bengalensis Krishnaswamy, 1951, L. sinilobata Shen & Lee, 1963, Pontella diagonalis Wilson, 1950, P. forcicula Scott, 1909, P. latifurca Chen & Zhang, 1965, P. spinipes Giesbrecht, 1889, P. tridactyla Shen & Lee, 1963, P. valida Dana, 1849, Pontellopsis herdmani Scott, 1909, P. inflatodigitata Chen & Shen, 1974, P. scotti Sewell, 1932, P. yamadae Mori, 1937, Pontellina morii Fleminger & Hulsemann, 1974, and P. sobrina Fleminger & Hulsemann, 1974.Descriptions, measurements and figures are given for those species, along with a review of their distribution over the worlds oceans, and with taxonomic remarks, ecological notes, and restricted synonymies.Keywords: Taxonomy, new records, Pontellidae, Indonesia.

Abstract

Study on species status of a rice yellow stem borer, Scirpophaga incertulas(Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) was conducted. The objectives of the study were to explorethe genetic variation among populations of S. incertulas in Java and to clarify itsspecies status based on CO I gene sequences. The results showed that from the entire680-bp region of sequences from10 population in Java, 99 % were constant. The averageof estimated sequence divergences in the comparisons among populations withinS.incertulas was very low about 0.01%. The base composition was slightly A+T biased(C:0.15) with G+C contents was 37.09%. The result of phylogenetic analysis showedthat S.incertulas is a single species with S.innotata as its sister group. The differenceson the body-size, black spot at female’s forewing, forewing length within S.incertulasare solely natural variation.

Abstract

Acrobates pygmeus is a small arboreal marsupial thought to be restricted to eastern Australia, from southeastern South Australia to the tip of Cape York Peninsula in northern Queensland. Here I discuss the possibility that the species also occurs in New Guinea, based on two poorly-localized museum specimens (in London and Stockholm) supposedly collected from that island.Key words: Feather-tailed glider, Acrobates pygmeus, Acrobatidae, marsupials, New Guinea
