Abstract

SITI SUNARTI. 1987. Distribution and regeneration of Burseraceae in a lowland dipterocarp forest at Wanaiiset, East Kalimantan. Berita Biologi,3 (7) : 333 - 341. A study on distribution and regeneration of Burseraceae was carried out in a 5.25 ha plot of a lowland dipterocarp forest in East Kalimantan. A total of 94 mature trees, 699 saplings, and 3511 seedlings were recorded. Mapping and pattern analysis (using Morisita method) indicate that, adult and juvenile trees have clustered distributional patterns. Positive corelations between regeneration and gap size were observed in saplings and seedlings of Dacryodes and in sjplings of Santiria spp. No such corelation was noted in Canadian spp.

Abstract

Abstract

Cotton lines/varieties with high productivity require high availability of nutrients in the soil, especially nitrogen (N). To maximize the utilization and distribution of nutrients in the crops, plant growth regulator (PGR) is needed to optimize the cotton production. The research was aimed to estimate the suitable dose of N fertilizer and plant growth regulator suitable for the new cotton lines. The experiment was conducted in Mojomulyo village, Tambakromo District, Pati, Central Java, from May to October 2011.  The research was arranged in a Split Plot Design with three replications. The main plots were three lines/varieties of cotton: 99022/1; 99023/5 and Kanesia 13. The subplots were sixdose  of combination of N fertilizer with PGR namely (1) N 90 + mepiquat chloride; (2) N 90 + pachlobutrasol; (3) N 90  without PGR; (4) N 120 + mepiquat chloride; (5) N 120 + pachlobutrasol; and (6) N 120  without PGR. The results showed that under drought conditions, the use of PGR pachlobutrasol was better than mepiquat chloride. Pachlobutrasol has a higher impact on cotton production with high N fertilization (120 N/ha) resulting in 701.26 kg cotton/ha. When mepiquat chloride was added cotton production reached 665.37 kg/ha and 604.81 kg/ ha with no PGR. Production of cotton lines 99023/5 was 721.65 kg/ha higher that of Kanesia 13 (577,50 kg/ha).

Abstract

Abstract

Genetic improvement in the establishment of a rapid growth strain of Nile tilapia might be achieved through selective breeding program This research was aimed to estimate heritability and response selection of nile tilapia in brackishwater pond. Breeding  activity was carried out in fresh water in hapa 2x1x1 m. Males and females were breeding in pairs with a ratio of 1: 1. The number of established families was 19 families of 50 broodstock pairs. Harvesting of larvae was done on day 14. Larvae were collected and then kept in net 2 x 2 x1 m  with stocking density 125 fish/m2 for 60 days. The next stage was sexing  by grouping the male and female populations in each family. Grow out was carried out in net cage (3 x 5 x1.5 m ) that were placed in brackiswater pond at salinity 25–30 g/L with density 10 fish/m2.  Selection of broodstock in the male and female populations was done on weight of 250–300 g. Cut off selection was determined on weight from 316 to 382g (male) and 221–315 g (female). The results of this study showed that the estimation value for heritability of male and female were 0.42 ± 0.22 and 0.42 ± 0.23 and the estimation value for response selection were 10.66% (male) and 10.92% (female).

Abstract

Genetic variations among 3 cultures, which were treated with or without Mn of Saccharomvces cerevisiae D1, were analyzed using RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA ) technique. The Mn-treatment of three cultures were as follows: the culture KMn was D1 strain, the culture Mn+ was D1 strain colony survived in ethanol 20%, which was previously treated with 0,5 mU MnSOt and the culture Mn- was a D1 colony survived in ethanol 20% without MnSOi treatment. Polymorphism of total DNA of the three cultures may indicate that mutation may occur in cells which were tolerant to ethanol. The locus or base change was not identified. However, since the oxygen uptake rate of the three cultures at catabolite derepression state were identical, the results suggest that the locus may not be in mitochondrial DNA encoding respiratory chain proteins. The relation between DNA polimorphic and ethanol tolerant cell is still to be clarified.

Abstract

Nitrogen (N) and Phosphorus (P) are essential nutrients for plant. The deficiency one of these nutrients will be limiting the plant growth.A glass house experiment with one treatment factor was conducted to study the effect and interaction of N and P fertilizers application on maize growth in regosol and latosol soils. The results show that the interaction of N and P fertilizers application(N 1 P 1) on regosol had a significant influence to plant height on 3 to 7 weeks after planting, whilst on latosol had a significant influence to plant height on 1 to 5 weeks after planting. The shoot dry weight, root dry weight and total dry weight of maize on regosols and latosol soils were significantly influenced by the interaction of N and P fertilizers application (N 1 P 1). There were a positive correlation between N and P fertilizers application on both soils types to the total plant dry weight.

Abstract

To investigate the impact of consuming enzymatically synthesized maltooligosaccharide using Bacillus licheniformis BLl amylase on reduction of serum cholesterol level, in preclinical study groups of Sprague Dawley rats were fed for 3 weeks with four different test diets: basal diet (BD), high serum cholesterol-stimulating basal diet (CD), high serum cholesterol-stimulating basal diet supplemented with 3% (w/w feed) commercial maltooligosaccharide (CI), and high serum cholesterol-stimulating basal diet supplemented with 3% (w/w feed) maltooligosaccharide synthesized by enzimatic reaction of B. licheniformis BLl amylase (CB).Our result shows a reduction of serum cholesterol level up to 39.1% in rats CB after three weeks consuming maltooligosaccharide synthesized using B. licheniformis BLl amylase. In addition, significantly increased blood glucose level was not found in this study as an impact of consuming maltooligosaccharide synthesized using B. licheniformis BLl amylase.
