Abstract

An analysis of pesticide contamination in farm sites was conducted to investigate the impacts of organochlorine contamination in environmental matrices leading to pesticide residue in animal products and to identify a bioaccumulator of freshwater (mujair) fish (Sarotherodon mossambica).The observation sites were selected in accordance to the presence of animal farms within the agricultural areas applying pesticides intensively, such as Bandung, Sukabumi and Bogor districts. Samples consisting of water, soils,animal feed, freshwater fish, poultry meats, eggs and weeds were collected from these areas. The study shows that some organochlorines - OC (lindan, endosulfan and DDT metabolites) were detected from all samples. Endosulfan and lindan appeared to be used extensively for horticulture activity (corn, chilly, cassava and tobacco) in these areas, where both pesticides could also be detected either from animal products (meats and eggs) or water, freshwater fish and soils collected from the same areas.The results reveals that there were positive correlation between OC contamination in the environment and residues in animal products. The weed of babadotan (Ageratum conyzoides) was found growing abundantly around the animal farms and was able to accumulate the pesticides. Furthermore, freshwater mujair fish (S. mossambica) appeared to reduce endosulfan contaminantion in water as indicated by an increase pesticide residues in its tissues.

Abstract

Fish Tor is one of potential fish commodities to be developed because of their economic value. This on experiment was designed to evaluate the effect of male and female parent on morphological characters i.e length and weight growth and the value of heterosis from crosses of Tor soro and Tor douronensis. Crosses were performed in both directions (reciprocal) to form four populations. Observations lenght, weight gain, specific growth in length, specific growth in weight and value of heterosis were carried out for two months (January-March, 2014). The results showed an increase of  length, weight, specific growth in weight, specific growth in length occurred in seed produced from parent male of T. soro and female of T. douronensis with values of 0.54 cm, 0.09 g, 0.65 % and 3.79 %, rescpectively. Crossed of ? T. douronensis x ? T. soro yield heterosis value (partial) of length (40.90%) and weight (116.66%) was higher than crossed of ? T. soro x ? T. douronensis  that only have heterosis value of 0 and 33.33 %, and heterosis value (reciprocal) on the length of 20.45 % and the weight of 45.22 %.

Abstract

In comparison with other South East Asian palm floras, the Javanese palm flora is relatively small; there are about 50 species native to the island, With the long history of botanical exploration in Java,and the large concentration of botanists in the island, it would seem surprising if much new remained to be discovered on the island.However, palms are [usually neglected and after my first three months collecting in West Java and working in the Herbarium Bogoriense,it has become obvious that we still know very little of the Taxonomy and natural history of the native Javanese palms.

Abstract

A total of fifty-three samples of fungal basidiocarp were collected from peat area in Tanjung Puting National Park, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. These samples are mostly determined to genus until more studies are available.The fungi were isolated on CMA medium then the isolated strains were purified on PDA medium. The fungi belong to at least 3 families of Aphyllophorales, however there were a wide diversity in the genus with respect to macroscopic examination.An agar plate screening procedures was developed for the rapid selection of fungi and estimation of their capacity for lignin-decomposer. The test is based on the visualization and interpretation of the formation of halo zone or decolourization process in well-defined agar medium containing Poly R-478. The selected isolates were also tested in to rhemazol brilliant blue R salt (RBBR) medium. Five isolates had the ability to decolourize either Poly R-478 or RBBR. These isolates showed a qualitative lignin decomposition although a comparative study of selected fungi revealed the difference potentiality. The highest loss of lignin was 28.18% and attempts have been made to determine the unidentified fungi, which is resupinate type, by direct sequencing of 18s ribosomal DNA (rDNA).

Abstract

Study on diversity of arbuscular fungi (AF) of several rizosphere of forest trees and shrub in Karang Ranjang Post, Karang Ranjang Resort,Ujung Kulon National Park (TNUK) was done. Ninety-six soil samples from 23 forest trees were collected for examining AF. Each soil sample was placed into a plastic bag and record the host plant then air dried. Part of the samples were wet sieved by using four type of soil sieves, another part were kept as pot culture in the green house for about six to twelve months, then wet sieved. There were three species of Acaulospora, six species of Glomus, one species of Sclerocytis and one species of Paraglomus associated with forest trees and shrub in TNUK. Most of species recorded from this area are common, except Glomus multicaulis.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to isolate microorganism that can produce growth hormone, fix atmospheric nitrogen, and solubilize inorganic phosphate that may be used for enhancing the growth of banana in marginal land.  A total of 25 bacteria associated with banana that belonged to six genera were isolated from namely Acinetobacter, Enterobacter, Pantoea, Klebsiella, Rhizobium, and Cupriavidus genera. Gammaproteobacteria is the dominant class, followed by Betaproteobacteria and Alphaproteobacteria. All isolates were screened for multiple plant growth promoting traits which may play a role in banana growth, namely fixing nitrogen, solubilizing phosphate, and producing Indole Acetic Acid (IAA). Twenty-two isolates were capable to fix nitrogen, 21 isolates can solubilize insoluble phosphate, and 15 isolates produced IAA dependent of L-Tryptophan presence. Despite most of the bacteria isolates exhibited one plant growth-promoting activities, Enterobacter and Klebsiella genera showed three of plant growth promoting bacteria traits.

Abstract

Red pandan (Pandanus conoideus Lamarck) is an important plant for the people of the Arfak Mountain in the Province of Papua Barat (West Papua), Indonesia that include the tribes of Meyah, Sougb and Hatam. In total there are 10 morphological variations found, each with a local (vernacular) name.The local nomenclature used by the three tribes is in correspondence with the formal botanical nomenclature, but not identical. The result of the ethnotaxonomical study shows that the basic name equals to species name, while attribute refers to infraspecific classification.Attribute is suggested to be addressed to the category of variety in the formal (botanical) taxonomy rather than to subspecies.Ethnotaxonomy is proven to be a good alternative solution for the problems faced in the formal taxonomy.

Abstract

Shoot cultures of Kaempferia rotunda L.were established from rhizome segment.In the 1st experimen these explants were planted on Gamborg/B5 medium that supplemented with BA concentrations were (0, 0.5, 1 and 2) mg/l and/or kinetine were (0, 2 and 4) mg/l.In 2nd experiment these explants planted in Murashige and Skoog medium (MS).This medium supplemented with BA concentrations (0, 2 and 4) mg/l and/or NAA (0 and 1) mg/l.The result in the 1st experiment showed that the best proliferated shoots was from the culture that supplemented with BA 1 mg/l and kinetine 4 mg/l, while in the 2nd experiment the best proliferated shoots was from the culture that supplemented with BA 4 mg/l and NAA 1 mg/l.These shoots were then subcultured on MS liquid medium supplemented with BA (5 mg/l) and MS agar medium was supplemented with BA (2 mg/l) + 2iP (0.5 mg/l) + thidiazuron (0.01 mg/l) + NAA (0.5 mg/l).The cultures could induce the shoots number and produce the morphological plantlets for acclimatization,and acclimatization successed on soil and compost mixed medium in ratio 1:1.

Abstract

The experiment was deal with propagat cell line from encephalon and retina of grouper Chromileptes altivelis.The cell was isolate propagation of method described following by Chen et al.(1982) from carp and crussian carp fin. The cell line from enchepalon and retina of grouper grew very fast and heavy in medium L-1S.The cell line were then used for viral replication giving,isolated virus with high pathogenicity indicated by mortal effect in short time after administration. The preservation of cell line is in 10% glycerol under -80°C for one year. Thawing will be done every 3 months to ensure the viability of the cell.

Abstract

The research was conducted from January 2002 to June 2003 at Pulau Rambut Wildlife Sanctuary Jakarta Bay. The objectives of this research were to explore the breeding strategy of Little Black Cormorant {Phalacrocorax sulcirostris) by analyzing their nest materials. The birds built their nest by using natural and unnatural materials. The shape and texture of nest material were rigid, rope-like and soft. The sources of nest material were trees, forest floor, beach, abandoned nest, aquatic plant living on the bottom of tbe sea, floating material from Java Island and fisherman activities at the sea surrounding Pulau Rambut Wildlife sanctuary.In addition they also collected nest materials by stealing from other nests, nest material carried by other flying individual, and from other individual floating on the sea while seizing the nest material in their beak. All nest materials were carried with their beak.Rigid materials were carried horizontally or diagonally and rope-like material were dorsally or ventrally.
