Abstract

The arrival of human und their activities on protected areas will be a problem causing habitat degradation in quality due to cutting of trees, hunting and noising. This research was conducted to observe the difference of responses of primates to the arrival of human on disturbed and undisturbed forest in Cikaniki area,Mount Halimun National Park. Primates responses to environmental changes will be detected from vigilance behaviour in the form of early detection and reactions. The results of this research indicated that the three species of primates in Cikaniki area (javan gibbon, javan langur, and grizzled langur) generally detected early to the observers arrival compared to the observer himself detecting the position of primates. The early detection of the three species of primates is slower in disturbed forest compared to the undisturbed one.Furthermore, the reactions of these three species generally negative;although sometimes they response neutrally, but none was positive response in both disturbed and undisturbed forest. This behaviour indicated that although the primates have been adapted to the presence of human (early detection: slower in disturbed forest), but they still vigilant to the presence of human with negative responses.

Abstract

Six fungi isolates belong to Aspergillus spp were isolated from various samples and their ability to produce amylase has been tested. It was founded that all isolate shown the amylolytic activities which shown the clear zone areas after pouring with iodium solution. Two isolates which name Aspergillus niger (ISO 482) dan A. clavatus (ISO 468) to be the most active compare to another. The amylase activity of two isolate was studied in media contain rice and rice brain as a carbohydrate sources. Based on lower cost and easy to reach rice brain (local waste agriculture product) were choose as the alternative media to produce enzyme amylase from Aspergillus niger (ISO 482). The activities 2 of enzyme obtain was 54,14 x 10  U/ml (one unit activity is define as micromoles of glucose produce per ml per minute). The optimiation was done at room temperature for 7 days. The result showed the activity of enzyme increase during the fermentation process, at the first 2 2 day activity was 18,77 x 10 U/ml and reached the maximum activity (91,64 x 10 U/ml) after 3 days. The optimum temperature for enzyme reaction was 40 - 50 °C, optimum pH was (pH 5.0 - 7.0) and enzyme was relatively stable under such conditions.

Abstract

Snails inventory in the southern part of Gunung Halimun National Park (GHNP) was conducted in two locations i.e., Ciptarasa and Simaresmi,in July and November 2000.It was found 36 species of snails that belongs to 16 families. It means that snails in the southern part of GHNP differs from that of the central part of the Park. Those snails were discovered in 9 habitat types.

Abstract

Gunung Halimun National Park is known to be the area of headwaters of a number of rivers/streams originate. However, there is no information about the fishes living in these rivers systems. In this regard, a series of ichthyofauna study was conducted from 1996 to 2002 in Cikaniki, Cimaja/Cisarua, Cisukawayana, Ciberang, Cidurian and Cibareno that covered 94 sampling stations. Method that was used was Catch Per Unit of effort (CPU) where electric fishing gear (and) cast net, trap were used.Forty fish species belonging to 16 families and 26 genera have been found. Gobiidae, the diadromous fishes, was dominant, comprising 14 species or 35 %, followed by Cyprinidae comprising 5 species or 12.5 %.These Gobioid fishes were derived from Cisukawayana, Cimaja, and Cibareno River, where these rivers flow south to the Indian Ocean. It was found that Paray, Rasbora aprotaenia; Beunteur, Puntius binotatus; Bogo, Channa gachua; Lele, Clarias batrachus; Kehkel, Glyptothorax platypogon; Soro, Tor tambra; Bungkreng/ Ikan Seribu Poecilia reticulata and Paris, Xiphoporus helleri were found in common in rivers flowing north and south, and Lentipes as well as Schismatogobius marmoratus extend their range to Java (new record for Java). The utilization of fishes for food by local people is presented including Gobioid fishes, which are at the juvenile stage (called as impun) are utilized as a part of their food source.

Abstract

Keladi tikus Thyponium flageliforme (Lodd.) Bl. is considered as a wild plant species, because it is not fully cultivated yet. However, now adays it is quite widely used even in its wild status, because it is reported to be traditionally used as cancer cure. Due to its potential uses by the people, there is a need to be developed by cultivation in order to fulfill the demand for raw materials, both for medication and planting materials in research activities. This research was conducted to study the behaviour of keladi tikus when bring to cultivation status. The research is divided into two parts i.e: a) the effect of bulb weight as planting material and 2) the effect of shading on the growth. The result sshowed that bulb weight is not significantly affected the growth. On the 10month after planting the parameter measured is not significantly different. Meanwhile, shading is significantly affected the plant growth. The best growth is achieved on 0% shading, but the growth on 50% shading is still good. The growth on 75% shading has significant decreased.

Abstract

Land suitability analysis method is introduced for sandalwood (Santalum album L.) in Nusa Tenggara Timur. It includes analysis on its (I) agro ecological suitability based on crop requirement for climate and soil characteristic, (2) ecological suitability, and (3) social-economic requirement for sustainable and profitable production. Approach to these three components is conducted through desk study/survey and on site research. All information collected and analyzed is combined together in GIS (Geographical Information System) for further use.

Abstract

The increasing value of ebony (Diospyros celebica Bakh.) recently, causes extensive exploration of the species, and as the consequency the natural population of this species become endangered.Conservation of ebony depends on the management of the Nature Conservation areas or the National Parks in Sulawesi.Conserving the gene pool and management of the surrounding area i.e.the buffer zone is important for the species diversity and the social economic aspect of the local community. The buffer zone has three different functions, as greenbelt zone, interaction zone and cultivation zone. These zones are managed in an integrated system where the progress of the region is responsible on the conservation and community development is implemented. The progress of the ebony forest plantation and agriculture zone of the buffer zone area develops into a mixed plantation forest of an agroforestry system in a community forest management.

Abstract

In order to know the capability of lignin and cellulose degradation and phosphate solubilization by soil fungi of Gunung Halimun National Park, a study was carried out to qualitatively analyse its physiological properties. Out of 35 soil fungi tested, 1 species that belonged to Basidiomycetes degraded lignin, 32 species degraded cellulose, and 31 species dissolved inorganic phosphate. The presence of soil fungi that degraded cellulose and dissolved phosphate could be used as a candidate for biotechnology application as well as to increase soil fertility.
