Abstract

Kegiatan pengamatan pada koleksi ilmiah keong darat dari Sumatera yang disimpan di MZB dan studi pustaka telah dilakukan dengan tujuan memutakhirkan informasi tentang keberadaan keong darat di Sumatera. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa jumlah jenis keong darat dari Sumatera tercatat 280 jenis, 33 diantaranya endemik dan kurang dari 40% dari jumlah total tersimpan di MZB. Delapan jenis merupakan “catatan baru” (new record) bagi Sumatera, yakni Lagochilus obliquistriatum, Diplommatina calcarata, D. cyclostoma, Philalanka micromphala, Coneoplecta bandongensis, Liardetia densetorta, L. viridula dan Landouria monticola yang dikoleksi dari Pesawahan, Provinsi Lampung, Sumatra Selatan. Tulisan ini merangkum seluruh informasi tentang keberadaan dan status keong darat di Sumatera, beberapa jenis berstatus endemik, namun beberapa juga terbatas sebarannya, bahkan tergolong langka dan terancam punah.

Abstract

Karyotype information and taxonomic research using the character of chromosomes on snakes of the oriental region are still very limited. Therefore the karyotype of two species snakes of the family Colubridae (Xenochrophis melanzostus and Ptyas mucosa) from Java were analyzed using splash method and blood culture technique. The shape and size of prometaphase chromosome were successfully determined. The result of chromosome observation, suggested that the karyotype formula of Ptyas mucosa are 2n=34=3m+1sm+4a+9t. This formula supports the conclusion Ptyas mucosa from Java populations are belong to the same species as the Indian. On the other hand, the karyotype formula of Xenochrophis melanzostus are 2n=34= 12m + 18sm + 4t. This information supports the conclusion that Xenochrophis melanzostus is separated from Xenochrophis piscator.

Haryoko, T. 2008. Effect of density in cage upon feed intake and nutrition level inTrichoglossus haematodus. Zoo Indonesia 17(1):21-26. Trichoglossus haematodusis Psittacidae family which have diet on nectar. Inballance on nutrition contents orincomplete diet is a common problem in birds captivity. The aim of this researchwas to study the effect of bird density in cage upon feed intake and nutrition level.The research was conducted from April to July 2006. Bird density in each cage was2, 3 and 9 birds. The composition of diet consisted of 4.7% protein,1.3% fat, 1.5%crude fiber, 0.19% calsium, 0.17% fosfor and 1,256 kkal metabolism energy. Feedintake for Group A was 87.65 g/bird/day, group B was 80.37 g/bird/day and Group Cwas 81.92 g/bird/day, respectively. The result showed a correlation between bird’sdensity and feed intake as the density increased birds got less amount of food andnutrition.

Abstract

Keberhasilan perkembangbiakan tidak lepas dari aspek pakan dan perilaku. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui perbedaan perilaku dan konsumsi pakan saat masa kawin, masa mengeram, dan memelihara anak. Penelitian ini menggunakan sepasang burung bayan selama tiga siklus di Penangkaran Burung, Pusat Penelitian Biologi-LIPI. Penga-matan konsumsi pakan dan perilaku pada masa kawin dilakukan selama 15 hari, masa mengeram selama 15 hari, dan masa memelihara anak selama 15 hari. Perilaku diamati menggunakan metode focal sampling dengan pencatatan continuous recording. Pakan diberikan secara ad libitum. Jenis pakan yang diberikan adalah roti tawar, kangkung, kacang panjang, wortel, kedondong, kelapa, telur puyuh, biji matahari, jagung kering, tauge, dan jambu biji. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa pada masa kawin perilaku seksual meningkat pada jantan dan betina, pada masa mengeram perilaku bersarang meningkat pada betina, dan pada masa memelihara anak perilaku makan meningkat pada jantan dan betina. Untuk konsumsi pakan pada masa kawin sebesar 72,11 g/pasang/hari, pada masa mengeram 55,26 g/pasang/hari, dan pada masa me-melihara anak sebesar 102,67 g/keluarga/hari.

Climatic changed from drought (dry)to rainy (wet) season is represent the active habit for foraging food of common ratsnake (Ptyas mucosus). Farm, garden and rice fields which still widespread in centraland east Java provinces area have common known by resident as living place of thissnake. This study was to examine the stomach contents of live common rat snakesusing dissecting and flushing stomach contents that were modified. Liquid componentsuch as juicy composite was identified from stomach contained carbohydrate (14.7%),cellulose (30.85%), and lignine (12.43%). Whereas solid materials consist of insect(12.76%), partly body of toads, frogs and skinks, and mammals fur. Unidentifiedmaterials (29.26%) composed of very small particles, most probably grains and plantseeds. Ecology data concerning habitat availability of common rat snake was used ascomparison data to extrapolate of foraging area. Generally, common rat snake get itsfood source from agriculture area. This matterial was known from mixture of element ofplant fiber in composite of digestible animal. There wass possibility that amphibian asa important interconnected food with their ecology.
