Abstract

Department of Biology, State University of Semarang has been appointed as one of the organizers of the Professional Teacher Education for scholars who have taught at the front, outermost, and lagging (PPG-SM3T) of Indonesia since 2013. The University was determined to hold lectures using Competency and Conservation Based Curriculum (CCBC). There are 11 conservation values of a character which wants to be developed as an identifier the university graduates profile. Values precondition character are piety, clean, neat, comfortable, and well mannered. This study aimed to describe the development of the character of the conservation values for PPG-SM3T students through Explore Roaming Around (JAS)-based learning approach. Data retrieved through observation while learning in the 1st semester and the questionnaire, and then exposed to narrated through a qualitative approach. The results showed that the Biology Education Study Program has been educated through exemplary, habiatuation and reinforcement, and reflective thinking in learning so as to develop nationalism, discipline, caring, polite, smart, responsible, democratic and religious attitude. Through the initiative of students has grown nationalist values but only 36% who say they want to return to front, outermost, and lagging area, and even then with the condition after 3-5 years can return to Java.

Abstract

The research aims to know the result of qualitative and quantitative analysis of items, and improvement and conformity of the items with the indicators of Biology final test grade X and XI at SMAN 1 Kampak on 2016/2017 periode. The research method is descriptive with qualitative-quantitative approach. The results showed contents validity of the final test items in X and XI grade is 87,5% and 85,83%. Percentage of construct validity of the final test items in X and XI grade is 95,71% and 84,29%. Percentage of language validity of the final test items in X and XI grade is 89,16% and 91,67%. The percentage of difficult item in X grade is greater than the medium and easy item. The percentage of medium items in XI grade is greater than the difficult and easy items, but it does not reach 50%, so the proportion of final test in X and XI grade are not appropriate. The discriminating power of item in X and XI grade with very bad and bad criteria are more than or equal to 50%. The effectiveness of item distractor in X grade with very good and good criteria are 70%, while in XI grade are 20%. The reliability of final test in X grade is enough criteria, while in the XI grade is low criteria.

Abstract

This research aims at improving students' problem solving skills. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research by implementing Lesson Study-based Problem Based Learning strategy as an effort to improve students’ problem solving skills. This study was conducted for 1 cycle consisting of two meetings. The results of this research show that LS-based PBL strategy can improve students' problem solving skills, from 30% during observation to 93%. The data of students' average problem solving skill scores reached 80.07. The achievement of this score has met the minimum standard score of State University of Malang, which is 55.00. Based on these results, learning by using LS-based PBL strategy can improve students' problem solving skills.

Abstract

Individuals’ behaviors are regulated by how they perceive themselves and their surroundings. Learning that encourages students to be active will provide more effective environment to facilitate them to achieve predetermined learning objectives. It is very important to identify college students’ perception and investigate to what extent they can understand learning strategies that are being implemented. This research was a descriptive quantitative research which involved 142 biology education students. Two questionnaires were distributed to obtain students’ perception on the implementation of Reading Questioning and Answering (RQA) and Argument Driven Inqury (ADI) learning strategies. As to collect more data, observation and interviews were also conducted. Research findings indicate that (1) 38,32% of the students have ever heard about RQA, but only 18,60 of them have experienced learning biology with RQA;  (2) around 24,26% of the students are quite familiar with ADI, however, only 9,45% have been taught using the strategy.

Abstract

The 2013 curriculum is designed to develop attitude, knowledge, and skills competencies. Students' low scientific and attitudes skills lead to low concept comprehension. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of Project Based Learning used local potential of environment as learning resource towards the students' concept comprehension, scientific skills, and scientific attitude. The type of this research was quantitative descriptive with pretest-posttest control group design design. Data was collected by tests and observations. The result of the research showed that Project Based used local potential of environment as learning resource had a positive effect on the students' concept comprehension, scientific skills, and scientific attitude.
