Abstract

Dangke is one of traditional food from Enrekang Province Sulawesi Selatan which is made from buffalo milk and enzimatically processed using papain from papaya’s gland secretion. Research on this local product as source of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) has been done. Counted 30 LAB was successfully isolated and 3 of them were potentially to be able to yield antimicrobial compound. Enterococcus faecium DU55 is one of LAB isolate available to be applied for producing bacteriocin compound through fermentation. Optimum condition of fermentation was specified by determining the highest antimicrobial activity generated by filtrate of fermentation result. Antimicrobial activity examination was carried out through diffusion agar method by measuring inhibition zone growth of pathogen bacterium Salmonella typhimurium FNCC 0050. Research results indicate that maximum bacteriocin compound production by BAL isolate E. faecium DU55 was obtained at condition of optimum fermentation at 30 °C during 42 hour using M1 medium with the same composition to medium MRS (Man Rogosa and Sharpe).Keyword: dangke, LAB isolate, bacteriocin, antimicrobial activity

Abstract

Four different organic solvents, methanol, N- heksana, kloroform, and etil acetate were used to extracted some bioactive compounds from bark of mangroves plant Sonneratia alba (kayu buli) for screening of antibacterial activity against three pathogen bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus,Eschericha coli, and Bacillus subtillis by agar diffusion method. All extracts were able to inhibit the growth of these bacterial significantly in concentration of 5%. Etil acetate ekstract showed highest antibacterial activity.Methanol, chloroform, and etil acetate were effective solvent to extract bioactive compound that have a antibacterial properties from this plant.Keyword: Kayu buli, Sonneratia alba, antibacterial activity

Abstract

Biosorption is an alternative technique which can be used in solving environmental  pollution coming from waste containing heavy metals. Biosorption  of Cr(VI) ion using biomass of seagrass,  Thalassia hemprichii at various contact time, pH and concentration has been investigated. Biosorption was performed by a batch method and  concentration  of  ions  before  and  after  biosorption  were  measured  by  atomic absorption spectrophotometer  (AAS). The equilibrium was achieved after 80 minutes. Adsorption  effectivity  of  Cr(VI)  Enhalus  acoroides  ion  was  pH  2.  Biosorption  of Cr(VI) ion by using biomass of Enhalus acoroides followed Langmuir isotherm and the result showed that biosorption capacity (Qo) of Cr(VI) ion was 8.13 mg/g.Keywords:  biosorption, Cr(VI), seagrass, Enhalus acoroides, Langmuir isotherm.

Abstract

Abstract. Explorations of secunder metabolic, especially non active fraction of Clathria reinwardtii, of spons from South Sulawesi have been done. Bioactivity test against Artemia salina was carried out with Brine Shrimp Lethality Test method. Separation techniques contain of extraction, fractionation, and purification. Qualitative tests and structure elucidation on the compound obtained was based on the physical and spectroscopic data UV, IR and NMR. Two compounds which are isolated from Clathria reinwardtii are suggested as fenolic compound and steroid group i.e. β-sitosterol.Keywords : β-sitosterol, Artemia salina Leach, Clathria reinwardtii, fenolic.

Abstract

A research on the effect of amino acids, glycine and hystidine, on the selectivity of Coated Wire Electrode (EKT)-glutamate has been conducted. Membrane consisted of 0.1 M pyrrole; 0.1 M glutamic acid and 0.1 M HClO4. Analysis of the electrode performance was conducted by looking at the Nernstian factor, detection limit, and solution pH. The effect of amino  acids,  glycine  and hystidine,  on measurement  of glutamic  acid can be  studied  by calculating its selectivity coefficient. Results showed that the electrode gave response of the Nernstian value of 30.24 mV/decade in the concentration range of 10-8  – 10-1  M, detection limit of 2.735 x 10-8  M and pH of 3. Amino acids, glycine and hystidine did not affect the performance of EKT-glutamate with the selectivity coefficient of less than 1.Keywords: Coated Wire Electrode (EKT)-glutamate, Nernstian, selectivity

Abstract

Bayur  plant    (Pterospermum  subpeltatum  C.B.  Rob)  has  not  been searched  for  their  secondary  metabolites.  However,  this  genes  was  used  as traditional   medicines  such as Pterospermum  javanicum   as cure for dysentry, toothache and Pterospermum  acerifolium   fer itchy drug. From toxicity test by BLST upon various tissues it was found that methanol extract, compared to other parts, has higher value 220 ppm. Keywords:  Pterospermum  subpeltatum  C.B. Abstract

The 4-hydroxycinnamamide  is a compound  that has been isolated from the root bark of Kleinhovia hospita Linn. The compound show high toxicity to Artemia salina Leach (IC 180,53 µg) so it can be expected has cytostatic activity against P388 leukemic cells. However, the concentration of the compound in the root bark of K. hospita Linn is very low (about 1.6 ppm), and commercially the compound  is  not  ready  and  has  never  been  synthesized.  Therefore,  it  is  important  to  find  out  a synthesis method to used in prepare the compound for further examination, in particular its cytostatic activity. By this research, the 4-hydroxycinnamamide compound has been prepared from 4- hydroxycinnamic  acid  via  esterification  reaction  with  excess  ethanol  and  sulphate  acid  catalyst followed  ammonolysis  reaction  with concentrated  ammonia.  The esterification  stage  gave  ethyl 4-hidroxycinnamate   as  white  crystall  with  melting  point  133-134oC   and  34.9%  yield,  and  the ammonolysis stage gave 4-hydroxycinnamamide as white crystall with merting point 140oC and 46.1% yield. Identification of the reaction product was carried out by FTIR and NMR spectroscopy methods. Keywords: 4-hydroxycinnamamide, 4-hydroxycinnamic acid, esterification, ammonolysis
