Abstract

The communities of Serangan have a habit to use turtle for trading, consumption, customs and religion. After the execution of Act of rare animal, the community became anxious, because it was prohibited using turtles for the above purposes. The community claimed the government so that it provided exemption using the turtles, but the government still wanted to preserve them. The two diversity of interests caused pro and contra of using the turtles so it aroused discourse internationally, nationally and regionally that gave an impact to the image of Bali society specifically the two villages was said as a society of turtles butcher by international world. The result of this research showed that before the execution of Act No: 7 and 8 in 1999 on the preservation of rare animal the use of turtle is a part of people of Serangan life for trading, consumption, custom and religious ritual. However since 2005 the use of turtle was changing from extractive to non extractive. Further there was also a changing in giving the meaning of turtle that is from exploitation to be the preserver through the release of tukik to the sea to maintain the balance of nature/sarwa bhuta hita. Since 2005 the use of turtle as religious ritual has been changing. Before 2005 the people used the big-size and large amount of turtles for ceremony. But since 2005 they are willing to use the small-size of turtles (boko), even if they did not get any single turtles, they replace it by using a duck. The changing of Serangan people perception regarding turtle that is from turtle consuming to turtle preserving can be found in awig-awig (adat law). Of adat village the turtle preservation was established, releasing tukik to the sea both as tourist attraction and as the form of turtle preservation that is taken from the conservation.

Abstract

Forest has an opponent function in climate change issue, as carbon sink and carbon source. Reducing emission from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) is the mechanism to tackle green house gas emission from forest sector. The economic analysis of those projects in Indonesia has not conducted yet, moreover the benefit and cost analysis of REDD on forest management unit. The research was conducted in the unique site, at Industrial Forest Plantation PT. SBA WI, South Sumatera. Benefit and cost analysis and break-even cost analysis were conducted to evaluate project feasibility. The research result shows that forest management was not feasible if the role of the project aimed to product wood or reducing emission only which conducted in mutual. If the project aims to reach both roles together, it is very attractive. Break-even cost of reducing emission and carbon sequestration in PT. SBA WI Rp.29.000,- per ton CO2e equal to US$3,17. It was lower than the cost in Bolivia, Ghana, and Nepal and also cheaper than carbon price in voluntary market.

Abstract

Land use change in a watershed could affect the ecological system, hydrological system and water quality, meanwhile land use change study is needed to conduct especially in Badung watershed. The purpose of this research is to calculate land use changes from 1992 to 2008 and predicted hectarege of land use in 2015 and 2020. Methods of this research are comparing the four land use maps obtained from Bakosurtanal (1992 and 2000), Interpretation of Landsat ETM+ image (2003), and interpretation of ALOS/AVNIR-2 image (2008). On-screen method is used to ALOS/AVNIR-2 image data interpretation. The equation obtained from logarithmic regression is used to predict the land use area. The results of this research showed that the land use in Badung Watershed region has changes from 1992 to 2008. Settlement land use has the largest changes, where the area is increase. The speed of land use change of settlement reached 46,45 ha per year, while the ricefield land use reached 38,91 ha per year. Predicted settlement area in 2015 and 2020 is 2056,83 ha and 2108,83 ha, while the ricefield is 1386,79 ha and 1343,66 ha.

Abstract

This study aims at investigating: (1) adolescent lexical knowledge about traditional medicinal plants from ecolinguistic perspective and (2) adolescent attitude toward traditional medical plants and its effect on ecology and ecolinguistics as an effort at preserving environment and lexis of medicinal plants. This study was conducted to 125 adolescents in Buleleng regency in 25 villages in 9 districts. The data were obtained through interview, observation, and lexical competence test. The data were processed descriptively. The result shows that the adolescent lexical knowledge about traditional medicinal plants is as follows. 28 rural adolescents (37.33% ) has an adequate knowledge , 47 (62.66%) an inadequate knowledge and 9 urban adolescents (18%) an adequate knowledge, 38 (76%) an inadequate knowledge and 3 ( 6%) a low level of knowledge. Ecolinguistically, this has an effect on reduction of lexical forms on the part of the adolescents. Fourty percent of the adolescent attitude showed disagreement with the assumption of backwardness and low opinion about the users of the traditional medicinal plants this is a positive attitude of the adolescents and is a good asset in the effort at developing faithful attitude, pride and awareness of the use of medicinal plants to preserve the ecology and ecolinguistics.

Abstract

This study of evaluation on policy effecitivity on the destructive fishing in small islands and coastal zone. Many government policy have not been successfully implemented due the lack of suprevision and monitoring. The destruction of coral reef has impact on economic income in the coastal zone citizen. Indonesia has lost its tremendous oceanic resources as the cause of destrucitice fishing through chemincal bombing on the sea to catch fishes. Its not only disaster for the longevility of the many kind of fishes but also coral reef which can only be recovered for hundred years. It is no longer a government roles to maintain the sustainability of these lives, but society and stakeholders should be involved as a team to increase the quality of the coastal zone society by improving their knowledge and skill for their fishing.

Abstract

This article aims to look at how market failure can lead to pollution of the turn, cause high costs and how cleaner production program and the creative economy can ensure the improvement of quality of economic growth through green economy with the calculation of Green GDRP performance. This article was written based on information obtained through various sources, environmental journals, teksbook, and some of the research. From the conclusion of this article can be known that market mechanisms fail to prevent environmental risks as a result of failures in the prevention aspect of externalities, public goods and goods the ownership of common property. Implementation of the green economy, in the short term will impact the decline in economic growth, but in the long term economic performance measurement approach green GDRP will impact on the improvement of sustainable environmental quality. Implementation of cleaner production that are more preventive in preventing environmental risks and synergy with the creative economy program will be able to more quickly improve the quality of economic growth through green economic approach. Synergy of four pillars in a participatory manner is necessary in the implementation of a green economy that supported the cleaner production program and the creative economy is the government, business, academic, and community.

Abstract

Land and water resources are important roles to keep the sustainability of food production. However, these resources tend to decrease because of developing infrastructure as well building, road, industry, tourism, property, etc. In two decades, it was predicted that land farm alleviation in Indonesia was about 10,000 ha per year. On the other side, food demand tended to increase because of population growth. Consequently, study has to be done to get some information about land area, irrigation facilities, and crops production. The location of the study on one unit area of irrigation, named Daerah Irigasi (DI) Mambal. This study was conducted by survey and field experiment on rice package technology. Survey method was done by interview and literature study. The field experiment was done by some modified input i.e. younger seedling, minimum dosage of complete fertilizer, and minimum water irrigation. These treatments were compared to farmer’s technology, and the result was analyzed by t test. The result of the study revealed that the land alleviation was 38.17% (4,280 ha to 2,980 ha) in a period of 30 years at DI Mambal and the land alleviation at Subak Sempidi was 26% (135 ha to 99 ha) in a period of 24 years. The supply of irrigation water debit at DI Mambal decreased 15% (from 3,596 l/sec to 3,038 l/sec) in a period of 30 years. On the other hand, the supply of irrigation water debit at Subak Sempidi increased 26% (from 168 l/sec to 212 l/sec) from 2005 to 2008. As a final point, supply of irrigation water debit increased from 1.70 l/sec/ha on 2005 – 2007 to 2.14 l/sec/ha on 2008. Paddy yield on experiment of technology package was 12.39 ton of dry grain harvest and it was 11.47 ton of dry grain harvest by the farmer’s technology. From the result of the study was suggested that technology package have to be done by two or three times of cultivation to identify the stability of each harvest yield.

Abstract

This study concern to discuss about ideology wich talking about the used of ‘’saput poleng’’ in a big tree in Bali. Where for Hindus people means to remains the environment. But in fact that’s only just text, because some or maybe much environment be in big trauble. For example, ‘’Vila Bukit Berbunga’’ case in Tabanan and Buleleng region, the condition of critical area, in forest area is 3.538 ha very critical, 6.286 ha critikal, and 44.201 ha is alittle bit critical, and then all critical area is in 54.205 ha. Then the critical area far from forest area 84.885 ha. Based on Forest Departemen 2002, the damaged of forest in Bali is Caused by fired wich demage 544,19 ha; caused by people (illegal wood cutter) wich demage 83,17 m3/ph, and caused by ‘’pembibrikan’’ wich damage 5.245,77 ha. Beside that ‘’Galian C’’ erotion, tourism development (Bappeda Provinsi Bali, 2006: IX-14—IX-15). Is take a part to damage it. To prevent the damaged environment Balinesse has two way, there are ‘’sekala and niskala’’. Sekala way is make some low to protect forest area and niskala way is make some Hindus ritual.
