Abstract

This study aims to determine the characteristics of NEET and the macro conditions in which the individual lives against the probability of an individual entering the NEET group (NEET status) in Madiun. This research uses a qualitative approach, with a purposive sample with certain considerations with informants a few 20 alumni of economics education in 2020-2022 who are not yet working. The results show factors that influence a person to become a NEET such as age, education and job qualifications needed in the field, and not having a link to work. Some informants are still choosing and sorting out the jobs to apply for, want to enjoy the process of consulting someone in the neighborhood, have fun instead of working and come from rich families. Informants have all the characteristics of NEET, namely not wanting to work and looking for work, anti-social, depending on other people to fill their days with less useful activities. The visible characteristics of NEETs are that they must fulfill their own needs, in order to actualize themselves. Starting from meeting physical needs, the need for security, being recognized by society, feeling affection, and being valued so that they are able to achieve the best version of themselves. Starting from improving relations with family, then trying to get out and socialize with society.

The quasi-experimental design used was a nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were all Class XI Social Sciences students at Public High School 2 Tilatang Kamang for the 2021/2022 academic year. The data collection method used test, questionnaires, and observation sheet. Based on the results of the research and data analysis, it can be concluded that the higher order thinking skills of students who are taught with the index card match learning model are significantly higher than those taught using the conventional learning model, the higher order thinking skills of students who have high learning activities is significantly higher than students who have low learning activities, and the index card match learning model and learning activities do not interact with each other in influencing students’ higher order thinking skills, which means that the two factors do not simultaneously exert their influence.

Abstract

This theoretical paper analyses the Opportunity-to-Learn (OTL) Dynamics of Market offered in two Grade 10 economics textbooks. The study asked whether opportunities provided in economics textbooks improve learners’ performance in Dynamics of Market. Following a Content Analysis approach, three OTL variables; Content organization, Content coverage and Tasks were used as the theoretical framework to couch this study. One of the findings was that Less High-Order tasks were found in both textbooks hence do not develop learners’ Higher order Cognitive skills. The overall study showed that the analysed economics textbooks do not offer enough OTL Dynamics of Market. This study is significant because it helps both educators and policy makers to explore more on ‘must-have features’ of economics textbook before it could be prescribed for use. It makes contribution to international literature on textbook analysis in the field of economics education, this is rare in economics education studies. It is recommended that Higher order tasks should be included in future editions of the Grade 10 economics textbooks thus, suggesting the need to analyse economics textbooks in high schools for effective learning. Although the study analysed specific textbooks, its findings shed light on how learning opportunities relate to performance more generally.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential for students in developing their intellectual skills. Critical thinking involves the ability to objectively analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information. It allows students to make good decisions, recognize strong or weak arguments, and identify weaknesses in their own thinking. Critical thinking skills also help students be critical of information sources, avoid superficial thinking, and face challenges with creative problem solving. In today's information age, critical thinking enables students to become self-reliant, informed, and skilled individuals in the face of the changes and complexities of the modern world. Implementing monotonous learning without considering active student participation is one of the causes of low critical thinking abilities among students. This study aims to enhance students' critical thinking abilities through project-based learning. The research was conducted using a quasi-experimental method. The research design used a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The study subjects were students from class XI MIA 1 and XI MIA of SMA Negeri 5 Kota Sukabumi and SMAN 1 Sukaraja. The research results, obtained through the t-test, yielded a significance value of 0.007. This means that applied project-based learning can enhance students' critical thinking abilities.
