Abstract

This study explores the role of childhood trauma in marital conflict among wives in Indonesia. Childhood trauma refers to negative experiences caused by physical or psychological abuse, neglect, or sexual assault. The primary objective of this study was to investigate how childhood trauma can predict marital conflict within households. A quantitative correlational design was used, involving 203 wives who had been married for at least one year, aged between 21 and 63 years. Data were collected using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire and the Marital Conflict Questionnaire. Spearman’s rho correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between childhood trauma and marital conflict. The more individuals experience childhood trauma, the higher the level of marital conflict. Significant correlations were found between childhood trauma and marital conflict frequency, conflict impact, and emotional impact, with emotional abuse being the strongest predictor. The findings also show that emotional abuse in childhood is the strongest predictor of emotional impact during marital conflicts. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of considering childhood trauma in understanding marital dynamics and its impact on conflict.

Abstract

Current study aims to examine the relationship between financial toxicity and coping strategies among workers living with chronic illnesses. Financial toxicity refers to the psychological and economic distress caused by the high and ongoing costs of medical treatment. A quantitative method with a correlational design was employed. A total of 124 participants who were workers with at least one type of chronic illness were recruited using convenience sampling. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation to determine the strength and direction of relationships between variables. The results revealed no significant correlation between overall financial toxicity and coping strategies. However, the behavioral disengagement dimension showed a significant negative correlation with financial toxicity, whereas the planning dimension demonstrated a significant positive correlation. These findings suggest that individuals with chronic illnesses tend to exert less effort when facing financial strain; however, once they feel sufficiently confident, they begin to plan strategies to manage their condition. The study contributes to understanding the psychological dynamics between financial stress and coping mechanisms among workers with chronic diseases.

Abstract

High levels of occupational stress among teachers in inclusive classrooms particularly those educating children with special needs (CWSN), remain a pressing concern in Indonesia. The lack of specialized training and increasing classroom demands exacerbate the psychological burden on inclusive educators. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-efficacy, mindfulness, and teacher stress, and to explore whether mindfulness moderates the relationship between self-efficacy and stress. Adopting a quantitative correlational design, this study involved 100 special education teachers from inclusive schools selected through purposive sampling. Instruments used include the Teacher Stress Inventory, all of which demonstrated strong validity and reliability. Correlation analyses revealed that self-efficacy was significantly and negatively associated with teacher stress, while mindfulness showed no direct association with stress. However, a positive correlation was found between social self-efficacy and mindfulness. Moderation analysis indicated that mindfulness did not significantly moderate the relationship between self-efficacy and stress. This study contributes to the literature by integrating mindfulness and self-efficacy in the context of Indonesian inclusive education, a population often underrepresented in existing research. The findings highlight the importance of institutional support and structured mindfulness programs to strengthen teachers’ self-efficacy and alleviate stress in inclusive educational settings.

Abstract

The policing profession in Aceh Province presents distinctive operational, cultural, and psychological challenges that often generate high levels of occupational stress. This study explores how emotional intelligence and workload influence job stress among personnel of the Bidpropam Division at the Aceh Regional Police. Employing a quantitative cross-sectional design, data were collected from 119 officers between January and March 2025. The analysis confirmed that emotional intelligence contributes to reducing job stress, while workload tends to intensify it. Overall, the findings highlight that officers with stronger emotional regulation and interpersonal skills are more capable of coping with demanding work situations. The study underscores the importance of integrating emotional intelligence development into professional training and adopting effective workload management strategies to promote mental well-being and resilience within law enforcement institutions.

Abstract

Many cases of sibling rivalry, including crimes, are committed by young adults who are usually considered independent, responsible and have good psychological well-being. These cases are caused by parental injustice. Parenting patterns that create sibling rivalry. This study aims to determine whether there is a significant relationship between sibling rivalry and psychological well-being in early adults in Jakarta. The research method used is quantitative with the criteria for male or female, aged 18-29, having at least one sibling and domiciled in Jakarta. Sibling rivalry was measured using the ASRQ Rivalry Subscale (Stocker, 1997), adapted via expert judgment, while psychological well-being used the SPWB (Ryff & Keyes) adapted by Fadhil (2021). The 114 respondents were obtained and analyzed using SPSS and Spearman's rho correlation test. The results showed no significant relationship between sibling rivalry and psychological well-being. This means that higher levels of sibling rivalry do not necessarily increase or decrease psychological well-being, and vice versa. However, in the correlation matrix, sibling rivalry correlated positively with the Positive Relations with Others dimension and negatively with the Personal Growth dimension.

Abstract

This qualitative study delves into the user’s comprehension and interpretation of their own qualities and those of potential partners during the decision-making process of online dating applications. Employing an exploratory design, in-depth interviews were conducted with six purposively selected participants. The analysis employed a thematic approach, utilizing Saldaña’s coding cycle. This approach commenced with initial/open coding and progressed to focused/axial coding. The study presents four key insights. Firstly, users construct their self-quality through a combination of physical appearance, personal competencies, and feedback received from other users. These factors collectively shape their self-image within the digital dating environment. Secondly, the quality of potential partners is assessed through rapid judgments based on photographs, profile information, personal values, and perceived compatibility. Thirdly, swiping decisions are influenced by subjective interpretations, emotional states, and reflections that arise after interactions. Lastly, users perceive the online dating environment as a competitive space that impacts their strategies, standards, and self-worth. Collectively, these findings indicate that swiping is not a mere technical action, but a cognitive and emotional process shaped by the interplay of individual factors, digital contexts, and social experiences.

Abstract

The Self-Critical Rumination Scale (SCRS) measures maladaptive repetitive thinking focused on perceived flaws and failures. Limited research has examined its psychometric properties among engineering students. This study aimed to adapt and evaluate the Indonesian version of the SCRS. Participants were 181 engineering students from Diponegoro University (119 males, 62 females). The scale demonstrated good reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis supported a single-factor structure with acceptable loadings and satisfactory model fit. Convergent validity with the Emotion Reactivity Scale (ERS) showed a strong positive correlation, indicating higher self-critical rumination is associated with greater emotional reactivity. These findings indicate that the Indonesian SCRS is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing self-critical rumination in young adults.

Abstract

Anxiety is one of the most common psychological disorders experienced by university students across the world. However, many cases of anxiety remain unidentified despite individuals exhibiting clinical symptoms. One of the instruments used to measure anxiety is the Burns Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Nevertheless, studies on the validity of this instrument in the Indonesian context are still limited. This study aims to evaluate the factor structure of the BAI. The research focused on examining the factor structure of the BAI (33 items) using a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) approach and testing its validity through distinct group evidence. The sample consisted of active university students aged 18–25 in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area, with a total of 400 participants. CFA results of the BAI indicated that the three-factor model demonstrated an acceptable fit to the data and was empirically justifiable. Additionally, distinct group validity was supported by findings showing that female participants reported significantly higher levels of anxiety than male participants, consistent with previous empirical studies. These findings indicate that the BAI are valid and reliable instruments for measuring anxiety among Indonesian university students.

Abstract

Pornography consumption among women has received limited attention in psychological research, as most studies primarily focus on men while female sexuality often remains socially sensitive. This study explores the psychosocial dynamics of pornography consumption among young adult women. A qualitative approach using thematic analysis was employed. Five women aged 18–25 years participated in semi-structured in-depth interviews. The findings indicate that pornography use commonly began with curiosity or accidental exposure through digital media and gradually developed into habitual behavior. For several participants, pornography functioned as a coping strategy to regulate negative emotions such as stress, loneliness, and emotional distress. Participants also reported various psychological and relational impacts, including guilt, intrusive thoughts, reduced concentration, and conflicts with personal moral and religious values. Social and cultural expectations toward women further intensified feelings of shame and negative self-evaluation. Beyond addictive behavioral patterns, the study also identified recovery processes involving emotional reflection and identity reconstruction. These findings highlight that pornography use among young adult women reflects complex psychosocial processes shaped by emotional needs, gender norms, and sociocultural contexts, emphasizing the importance of gender-sensitive psychological services and digital sexual education.

Abstract

Meaning in life is a fundamental element that shapes how individuals interpret their world. Religion serves as one of the primary sources of meaning in life. This study aimed to examine the relationship between religiosity and sense of meaning in life during emerging adulthood. A non-experimental correlational design with quantitative primary data was employed, collected through the CRS-15 TII questionnaire and the Meaning in Life Questionnaire. Convenience sampling was utilized; however, participant representativeness was enhanced through probability sampling across various faculties at Universitas Padjadjaran. A total of 71 respondents were recruited through questionnaires distributed via Google Form, Line, and WhatsApp. Results indicated a substantial relationship between religiosity and the presence of meaning, but no significant association with the search for meaning. The majority of respondents demonstrated high scores in religiosity, presence of meaning, and search for meaning. These findings underscore the importance of religiosity as a source of meaning in life during emerging adulthood and open avenues for further research and the development of faith-based programs.
