Abstract

This journal critically examines the process of harmonizing Pancasila values and Islamic principles within the development of the Citizenship Education (PKn) curriculum in Indonesia. The study aims to understand how the integration of these two values can strengthen national character, enhance tolerance, and enrich the learning process at elementary and secondary school levels. The methodology used is a literature review, analyzing various academic sources, curriculum documents, and theoretical studies related to the harmonization of national and religious values. The findings indicate that applying the principle of harmonization can improve students’ understanding of Pancasila and Islamic values simultaneously, as well as foster mutual respect and appreciation for Indonesia’s cultural and religious diversity. These results underscore the importance of incorporating these values into the PKn curriculum as a strategic effort to build a nation grounded in spiritual, nationalist, and tolerant values. Additionally, this research offers recommendations for developing a more inclusive and harmonious curriculum to create a tolerant, civil, and respectful society.

Abstract

Civic Education (CE) plays a crucial role in shaping national character amidst the challenges of disintegration in the era of globalization. This study aims to analyze the extent of Civic Education's influence on strengthening students' sense of nationalism and the strategic role of this subject in fostering a sense of tolerance within the diverse Indonesian society. The method used in this study is a literature review with a qualitative descriptive approach. The research findings indicate that an effectively implemented Civic Education curriculum can significantly enhance patriotism, awareness of rights and obligations, and pride in national identity among students. Furthermore, CE functions as an instrument of value education that teaches democratic principles and respect for differences in ethnicity, religion, race, and inter-group relations. Through an understanding of national insight and national integration, students are encouraged to develop inclusive and moderate attitudes. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that the success of Civic Education is measured not only by cognitive mastery but by the transformation of student behavior that reflects a high spirit of nationalism and the practice of tolerance in daily life, thereby creating social harmony within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of civic education in strengthening digital ethics and enhancing students’ social awareness in the era of social media. The rapid development of information technology has created both opportunities and challenges, particularly for students as active social media users. Using a qualitative approach, this research employed in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and participatory observations involving students who had completed civic education courses. Thematic analysis was applied to identify behavioral patterns, which were then categorized based on their relevance to digital ethics and social awareness. The findings reveal that civic education plays a significant role in shaping students’ digital behavior to be more ethical, critical, and responsible. Students with strong civic knowledge tend to be more cautious in sharing information, respect privacy, and engage actively in constructive discussions. Moreover, social media serves as an effective platform for fostering solidarity and social concern, although challenges such as misinformation and hate speech remain prevalent. This study highlights the urgent need to integrate civic education with digital literacy, enabling students to navigate the complexities of the digital world wisely.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze how diversity-related content in Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn) shapes students' attitudes toward tolerance, with a particular emphasis on the role of teachers as role models. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of learning practices and students' experiences in the classroom. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and document analysis related to the implementation of PPKn learning. Data trustworthiness was ensured through source triangulation, method triangulation, and member checking, following the recommendations of Creswell (2014) and Lincoln and Guba (1985). The findings revealed that diversity-related learning materials enhanced students' understanding of the importance of respecting differences in ethnicity, religion, culture, and perspectives, thereby fostering openness, mutual respect, and harmonious coexistence. However, the effectiveness of learning was influenced not only by the instructional content but also by teachers' exemplary behavior in demonstrating tolerance through daily interactions. Teachers who consistently modeled inclusive attitudes played a significant role in strengthening students' internalization of tolerance values. These findings contribute to the development of character education by highlighting teachers' role modeling as a key instrument for fostering a culture of tolerance within educational settings.

Abstract

The era of globalization presents challenges of moral degradation among students, including intolerance, individualism, and declining nationalism. These issues make character strengthening through Civic Education (PKn) a national priority. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of PKn in shaping students’ character, particularly the values of religiosity, nationalism, independence, mutual cooperation, and integrity. The research employed a qualitative Library research design using secondary data from 18 scientific journals and 2 books published between 2021 and 2026. Data were collected through literature review and analyzed using content and thematic analysis to identify patterns of PKn implementation and its impact. The findings indicate that PKn effectively develops Good citizenship through character education based on Pancasila. Effective strategies include teacher role modeling, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and digital media such as infographics and gamification. These approaches were reported to improve empathy, national loyalty, and integrity among students. The Merdeka Curriculum further supports character development by emphasizing affective learning through authentic projects. Challenges arising from foreign cultural influences can be addressed through collaboration among schools, families, and communities. The study concludes that PKn plays a significant role in strengthening students’ character and supporting the realization of Golden Indonesia 2045 through sustainable character education.

Abstract

The role of citizenship education is fundamental in internalizing the values of nationalism and ethics within a society. This research is motivated by the increasing challenges of globalization and moral degradation that threaten the national identity of the younger generation. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the strategic role of citizenship education in shaping and strengthening national character within the Indonesian context. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, utilizing literature reviews and thematic analysis of educational policies and social phenomena. The findings indicate that citizenship education serves as a vital instrument not only for transferring political knowledge but also for fostering civic disposition, including integrity, tolerance, and social responsibility. Furthermore, the integration of local wisdom within the curriculum significantly enhances the effectiveness of character building. The implications of this study suggest that a revitalized citizenship education curriculum, which adapts to digital era challenges, is essential for maintaining social cohesion. Stakeholders in the education sector must prioritize interactive and participatory pedagogical approaches to ensure that national character values are not merely memorized but practiced in daily life, thereby ensuring the long-term sustainability of the nation's democratic values.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum, as a new educational policy in Indonesia, emphasizes the cultivation of the Pancasila Student Profile, which is rich in citizenship values. This study aims to analyze the application of citizenship values in Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn) learning within the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum at the high school level. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, collecting data through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with PPKn teachers, and analysis of teaching modules and project-based learning documents (P5). The findings indicate that the application of citizenship values is primarily integrated through Project-Based Learning to Strengthen the Pancasila Student Profile (P5). Values such as mutual cooperation (gotong royong), critical reasoning (bernalar kritis), and global diversity (berkebinekaan global) are the most frequently emphasized. However, teachers face challenges, including the need to adapt pedagogical approaches, difficulties in assessing value-based outcomes authentically, and a lack of specific reference materials aligned with the new curriculum. The implication of this research is the urgent need for structured professional development for teachers and the development of comprehensive teaching guides to ensure the effective and standardized implementation of citizenship values in PPKn learning across all educational units.
