Abstract

Individuals are required to be able to adapt to the many changes that occur during adolescence, so support from the family is needed to deal with these changes. Normal development in this period of turmoil with rapid physical, cognitive and emotional transformations is influenced by parental interest and emotional involvement as well as parenting styles that determine the overall climate and communication in the family. Parents apply different parenting styles, ranging from authoritarian, democratic and permissive parenting. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between parenting patterns in adolescents and self-harm behavior in adolescents. This study was an analytic study with a case control design. The sample was 42 students of SMPN 1 Plaosan and their parents using a total population technique for the case group and a simple random sampling technique for control group. The independent variable was parenting style, the dependent variable was self harm behavior in adolescents. The instrument in this study used a questionnaire. To analyze the correlation used chi square test was used with α 0.05. The research results showed that most parents provided an authoritarian parenting style in the case group and some parents provided a democratic parenting style in the control group. The chi square test results obtained p = 0.00 (p = <0.05). The conclusion in this study is that there is a correlation between parenting patterns and self-harm behavior in adolescents. It is recommended that parents provide democratic parenting patterns for their children.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period characterized by physical, emotional and psychological changes. Changes in physical aspects are the most important because they take place quickly, drastically and lead to reproductive organs. A person's understanding, attitude, and behavior related to maintaining personal hygiene, beautifying appearance, increasing self-esteem, and preventing disease together can be referred to as personal hygiene behavior. Vaginal discharge is one of the symptoms and signs of infectious diseases in women. The general objective of this study was to determine the relationship between personal hygiene behavior and the incidence of vaginal discharge. The type of research used observational analytic research methods with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was seventh and eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Ngariboyo totaling 179 students. The sampling technique in this study used simple random sampling, obtained a sample size of 124 students. The independent variable is personal hygiene behavior while the dependent variable is vaginal discharge. Data collection using a questionnaire. The results of the gamma correlation test show that there is a relationship between personal hygiene behavior and the incidence of vaginal discharge with a p value of 0.030 (<0.05). It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between personal hygiene behavior and the incidence of vaginal discharge at SMPN 1 Ngariboyo. It is expected that female students can increase their knowledge in applying personal hygiene behavior towards the incidence of vaginal discharge.

Abstract

Labor pain during the active phase of childbirth remains a significant clinical and psychological challenge for mothers and is often associated with increased anxiety, prolonged labor, and negative birth experiences. In many maternity settings, pain management is still limited to basic relaxation techniques, while evidence-based non-pharmacological alternatives such as aromatherapy are not routinely implemented. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of neroli (Citrus aurantium) aromatherapy in reducing labor pain intensity during the active phase of the first stage of labor. A quasiexperimental study with a pretest–posttest control group design was conducted at RSUD dr. Sayidiman Magetan. A total of 60 laboring mothers in the active phase (cervical dilatation 4–6 cm) were recruited using consecutive sampling and equally allocated into an intervention group (neroli aromatherapy) and a control group (breathing relaxation). The intervention consisted of inhalation of neroli essential oil via an ultrasonic diffuser for 45 minutes under standardized environmental conditions. Labor pain intensity was measured before and after the intervention using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test and the Mann–Whitney U test. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in pain intensity in the intervention group, with a mean VAS score decreasing from 6.77 to 5.43 (mean difference = 1.33; p < 0.001). In contrast, the control group experienced a slight increase in pain intensity, with mean scores rising from 6.57 to 6.97 (mean difference = +0.40; p = 0.005). Post-intervention comparisons between groups showed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001), indicating superior pain reduction in the aromatherapy group. In conclusion, neroli aromatherapy is an effective, safe, and non-pharmacological intervention for reducing labor pain during the active phase of childbirth. Its integration into routine midwifery care may enhance maternal comfort and support a more positive labor experience.

Abstract

Adolescents are an age group that is prone to health problems such as anemia, impaired nutritional status, premature hypertension, and the risk of metabolic disorders due to lifestyle changes. In addition, low reproductive health literacy increases the risk of risky behaviors and long-term health problems. This community service activity aims to identify adolescent health conditions through integrated screening and increase reproductive health knowledge through a community-based approach. The methods used include blood pressure, hemoglobin, hematocrit, blood glucose, Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement, and interactive counseling on reproductive health. The activity was attended by 17 teenagers from Mrican Village. The screening results showed that 17.7% of adolescents were in the prehypertensive category, 17.7% had poor nutritional status based on BMI, and 17.7% had high blood glucose levels. As many as 11.8% of adolescents had low hemoglobin levels, while 29.4% showed low hematocrit levels. Educational evaluation showed that 88.2% of participants obtained perfect scores on the reproductive health post-test.  This activity is able to provide an overview of adolescents' health conditions through health screening while increasing their knowledge about reproductive health. In addition, the findings of health risk factors in some adolescents are also an important basis for follow-up efforts in the form of health education, monitoring nutritional status, and fostering healthy living behaviors in adolescents in the community.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The tutoring center "Kenosis" in Sidoyoso, established in 2016 by GKA Gloria Pos Sidoyoso, provides free educational support for elementary school children. This program helps in the academic and character development of children, initially taught by instructors from the Inter-University Christian Fellowship (Perkantas) and now reinforced by 4 permanent teachers. In addition to the need for tutoring, children are faced with daily conditions such as unhealthy snacks, low understanding of dental hygiene, and the importance of handwashing. These bad habits increase the risk of dental caries, infectious diseases, and the consumption of harmful food additives. Education and supervision are key to improving children's health and well-being. The Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya service team, consisting of 21 lecturers and 11 students, provided solutions to the above issues to 35 elementary school children at the Kenosis tutoring center on January 9, 2025, by delivering educational materials and practicing how to choose healthy snacks, brush teeth, and wash hands properly and correctly. Knowledge of harmful food additives The average pre-test score was 60.2, while the post-test score was 70.5. Understanding of proper tooth brushing techniques pre-test result 60.0 and post-test 70.5, understanding of good and correct handwashing habits had an average pre-test score of 60.0 and a post-test score of 70.5. There was an increase in knowledge about harmful food additives, proper tooth brushing techniques, and proper handwashing at the "Kenosis GKA Gloria Pos Sidoyoso" tutoring session.
