Abstract

This research addresses gaps by developing a holistic training model that integrates essential elements for optimal tennis performance. The study explores how physical conditioning can enhance agility, speed, and overall performance of junior athletes aged 14 to 16, focusing on forehand drive. The aim is to provide insights for coaches and players by integrating physical and technical training to improve performance. The scope includes evaluating the effectiveness of a forehand drive training program supplemented with speed and agility exercises for junior tennis players. An experimental one-group pre-test-post-test design was employed. Eleven tennis athletes from the Nusalima Tennis Academy participated. Speed was measured using a 20-meter sprint, and agility was calculated using the 505 Agility Test. The training program spanned 12 sessions over four weeks. Statistical analysis included mean, standard deviation, normality tests, and t-tests. Pre-test and post-test results showed significant improvements in speed and agility. The t-test values indicated statistical significance, confirming the effectiveness of the forehand drive training model. Players demonstrated enhanced neuromuscular adaptation, muscle strength, coordination, and reaction time. The study concludes that the forehand drive training model significantly improves speed and agility in junior tennis players. The findings support the theory that focused and structured training enhances physical abilities and performance. Additionally, the research highlights the long-term health benefits of intensive tennis training, such as improved cardiovascular health and overall fitness. The training model can be widely applied to develop well-rounded athletes in tennis programs.

Abstract

Inclusive physical education still faces challenges in practice in regular schools. This study aimed to identify the main barriers and effective strategies in its implementation. Researchers selected a total of 245 physical education teachers from various school levels in Pekanbaru, Indonesia, using purposive sampling based on their experience teaching students with disabilities. Validated for the Indonesian setting, the PEATID III (Physical Educators' Attitudes Towards Teaching Individuals with Disabilities III) questionnaire was used for data collecting with great dependability (α = 0.88). According to results, 68% of teachers reported exclusive attitudes from non-disabled students, 59% had never attended inclusion training, and 68% encountered limits of disability-unfriendly facilities. Implementation of inclusive strategies—such as curriculum customisation, the use of assistive technology, and parent collaboration—strongly connected teachers' favourable opinions with This study validates the need for synergy among instructors' pedagogical preparedness, easily available infrastructure, and school and family social support to provide fair and significant physical learning. The findings of this study significantly help Indonesia's inclusive physical education policies and practices to be developed.

Abstract

Adaptive physical education requires prospective teachers to have adaptive pedagogical competencies to respond to the diversity of students with disabilities. However, limited practical learning experiences in higher education often hinder students' understanding of movement adaptation. This study aims to develop and evaluate an augmented reality (AR) application as a simulation medium for movement adaptation based on disability types in adaptive physical education learning. A research and development approach was employed using the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) model. The participants consisted of 30 physical education students selected purposively. The instruments included expert validation sheets, user practicality questionnaires, and movement adaptation comprehension tests. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using a paired-sample t-test and effect size analysis. The results indicated that the AR application was valid (M = 4.28; 85.5%) and practical to use (M = 4.38; 87.5%). Furthermore, there was a significant improvement in students’ understanding of movement adaptation from pretest (M = 68.40, SD ≈ 6.00) to posttest (M = 82.60, SD ≈ 5.80), with a mean difference of 14.20 points. The improvement was statistically significant (p < 0.001) with a large effect size (Cohen’s d > 0.80). These findings demonstrate that the AR application is effective in enhancing students’ understanding of disability-based movement adaptation. Thus, the application has strong potential as an innovative learning medium to support the development of adaptive pedagogical competencies among prospective physical education teachers.

Abstract

This paper examines the transformation of Silat within the Seni Silat Malaysia curriculum through a systematic synthesis of research conducted by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) from 2013 to 2024. Based on the analysis of 47 peer-reviewed studies, the study traces how Silat has evolved from a traditionally rooted martial art into an interdisciplinary domain integrating sports science, pedagogy, and cultural identity. Using a matrix-based systematic review supported by text-mining techniques, three developmental phases were identified. The first phase (2013–2016) focused on physiological profiling and baseline performance indicators. The second phase (2017–2020) marked a transition toward applied sports science, including training methodologies, coaching strategies, and curriculum integration. The third phase (2021–2024) emphasized interdisciplinary collaboration and international alignment, particularly through the establishment of the AIRBORNE Research Interest Group. Across these phases, five core domains emerged: physical performance, sports-specific training, curriculum integration, recovery strategies, and socio-cultural identity. These domains collectively underpin a unified coaching framework that balances evidence-based practice with cultural authenticity. The emergence of Silat Tempur and its evolution into the Silat EVO competition model demonstrate a clear pathway of research translation into practice. This progression highlights how academic inquiry informs competition design, coaching competencies, and athlete development systems. The findings position Silat as a dynamic martial art in transition, offering a replicable model for integrating tradition, science, and competitive innovation in global martial arts development.

Abstract

This study explores how Silat or Silat Melayu, long rooted in cultural tradition and community practice, has gradually evolved into a recognised academic discipline in Malaysia between 2014 and 2024. Led by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and supported by national organisations such as PASSMAL and PESONA, this transformation reflects a deliberate effort to bring together heritage, education, and science within a structured academic framework. Using a qualitative multi-source approach, the study draws on 47 publications, expert insights, and international case comparisons to understand this development. The findings reveal a clear three-phase progression: early efforts focused on building basic scientific evidence, followed by a phase of training innovation, curriculum integration, and athlete safety, and more recently, a shift towards international collaboration and interdisciplinary research through platforms such as AIRBORNE. Across this journey, five key areas have shaped Silat scholarship: performance science, training and conditioning, curriculum development, injury prevention and recovery, and the preservation of cultural identity. The integration of technologies such as motion analysis has further strengthened coaching practices and athlete welfare, while global networks like IMACSSS and UNESCO-ICM have expanded Silat’s academic reach beyond Malaysia. At the same time, this rapid development brings important challenges, particularly in maintaining cultural authenticity and ensuring balanced global partnerships. Overall, the study shows that Malaysia’s experience offers a practical and forward-looking model for integrating indigenous martial arts into higher education. By carefully balancing tradition with scientific advancement, Silat demonstrates how cultural heritage can remain relevant, respected, and globally engaged in the modern academic landscape.
