Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of a dual-strategy intervention—SQ3R and concept mapping—in enhancing students’ comprehension and self-regulated learning (SRL) in an online distance learning context at Universitas Terbuka, Indonesia, contributing to SDG 4 (Quality Education). Using an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, quantitative data were collected from 1.652 students through pretest–posttest measures in a one-semester course in the social sciences, followed by interviews with selected students and two instructors. Results indicate a statistically significant improvement in posttest scores (p < 0.001), although the effect size is small (d = 0.24). The strongest gains occurred in reading comprehension (SQ3R), with moderate improvements in concept mapping, while SRL gains remained limited. Qualitative findings suggest that students developed better reading structure, organization, and confidence; however, these did not fully translate into sustained metacognitive behaviors such as time management and reflective learning. This indicates that the intervention effectively improved cognitive and organizational skills but had limited short-term impact on deeper SRL habits. The study highlights the need for sustained scaffolding to develop SRL in distance education and supports the integration of structured learning strategies to improve learner autonomy.

Abstract

This study addresses the limited empirical evidence on the effectiveness of the Realistic Mathematics Education approach in improving elementary students' mathematical reasoning skills, particularly in three-dimensional geometry. The objective of this research is to examine whether the Realistic Mathematics Education approach significantly enhances fifth-grade students' mathematical reasoning abilities in learning three-dimensional geometry. The study employed an applied quasi-experimental design with a Non-Equivalent Control Group. Two fifth-grade classes at SD Muhammadiyah Ngijon 1 were selected as the experimental and control groups. Data were collected through pretest and posttest using a validated and reliable five-item essay test that measured students' mathematical reasoning skills. Data analysis was conducted using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene homogeneity test, Independent Samples t test, and normalized gain analysis. The findings revealed a statistically significant difference between the posttest scores of the two groups (p = 0.031), which is lower than the 0.05 threshold. The experimental group achieved an N-Gain score of 79.75 percent, categorized as effective, while the control group achieved 75.20 percent, categorized as quite effective. These results demonstrate that the Realistic Mathematics Education approach is more effective, both statistically and pedagogically, in improving students' mathematical reasoning skills in three-dimensional geometry through meaningful, real-life contextual learning.

Abstract

Background of Study:Librarian attitudes significantly influence user satisfaction and engagement in library services. Positive interaction between librarians and users fosters a welcoming environment and enhances service effectiveness. Aims and Scope of Paper:This research aims to explore both the attitudes of librarians in providing services and users’ perceptions of those attitudes at the Tangerang Regency Library and Archives Office. Methods:A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through observation and interviews with three library users selected via purposive sampling. The data analysis followed three steps: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Result:Findings indicate that the average number of visitors to the Tangerang Regency Library and Archives Office from 2022 to 2023 was approximately 136,270. Users generally perceive librarians as friendly and kind. However, users often need to initiate interaction before receiving assistance, indicating a lack of proactive service. This shows that while the overall demeanor of librarians is positive, there remains a gap in attentiveness and sensitivity to user needs. Conclusion:Although librarians are perceived positively in terms of friendliness, service delivery can be improved by fostering a more proactive and responsive approach to user needs. These findings highlight the importance of continuous professional development for librarians to enhance user experience.

Abstract

Kearifan lokal merupakan salah satu identitas budaya yang perlu dijaga dan dilestarikan di tengah arus globalisasi. Sayangnya, banyak sekolah yang belum memiliki program sistematis dalam upaya pelestarian nilai-nilai kearifan lokal di lingkungan pendidikan. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan peran serta perguruan tinggi dalam membantu sekolah melestarikan kearifan lokal melalui pendampingan program, pelatihan, dan pembuatan media edukasi berbasis budaya daerah. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan partisipatif, dimana dosen dan mahasiswa terlibat langsung dalam identifikasi nilai-nilai lokal, penyusunan modul pembelajaran, serta pelaksanaan kegiatan budaya di sekolah mitra. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa adanya kolaborasi ini mampu meningkatkan pemahaman guru dan siswa terhadap nilai-nilai kearifan lokal, serta mendorong sekolah untuk mengintegrasikan kearifan lokal ke dalam kurikulum dan kegiatan ekstrakurikuler. Kegiatan ini diharapkan menjadi model kemitraan berkelanjutan antara perguruan tinggi dan sekolah dalam upaya pelestarian budaya daerah.

Abstract

Background of the study: Environmental cleanliness is an important factor in maintaining public health and environmental sustainability.Purpose and scope of the paper: Students of Universitas Terbuka Medan play an active role in increasing public awareness through environmental cleanliness socialization activities carried out at Merdeka Square, Medan.Methods: The methods used in the socialization include counseling, waste management demonstrations, and clean-up actions involving the local community. The results of the activities show an increase in public awareness and participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness.Results: With this socialization, it is hoped that a sustainable culture of caring for the environment will be created among the people of Medan.Conclusion : Through adequate facilities, the active role of cleaners, and high public awareness, the cleanliness of Merdeka Square can be well maintained.
