Abstract

Chemistry learning should not only emphasize theoretical concepts but also connect learning with real environmental problems and sustainability issues. However, most teachers still use generic teaching materials that are less relevant to local potential and contextual learning needs. This community service activity aimed to improve teachers’ understanding of green chemistry, contextual learning, and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4) through training on developing green chemistry teaching materials based on coastal local potential. The activity involved members of MGMP Kimia Tanjungpinang and applied a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach combined with project-based activities. The implementation stages included preparation, training, mentoring, and evaluation. Data were collected using competency assessment sheets, observation sheets, product assessment rubrics, and participant response questionnaires administered before and after the activity. The results showed measurable improvements in teachers’ competencies. Teachers’ understanding of green chemistry concepts increased from 68.75% to 100%, the ability to develop contextual teaching materials increased from 68.75% to 100%, competence in integrating coastal local potential into chemistry learning increased from 56.25% to 87.5%, chemical literacy in learning increased from 56.25% to 87.5%, and understanding of the relationship between chemistry learning and SDG 4 increased from 50% to 87.5%. Participants also successfully developed green chemistry teaching materials based on local coastal potential that were ready for classroom use. The activity contributed to SDG 4 by strengthening teachers’ professional competencies and improving the quality of contextual chemistry learning materials. These findings indicate that contextual green chemistry training effectively enhances teachers’ chemical literacy, understanding of SDG 4, and competency in developing meaningful and contextual teaching materials.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of digital technology has encouraged the use of digital financial services; however, coastal communities still have limited understanding of financial literacy. This community service activity aimed to improve the understanding of Tulang Village residents regarding financial literacy, Rupiah authenticity, financial management, and digital transaction security. The activity was conducted on August 24, 2026, involving 11 participants through lectures, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. Evaluation was conducted qualitatively by observing participant engagement throughout the activity. The results showed a fairly positive response, indicated by active participation in discussions and questions concerning how to distinguish genuine from counterfeit Rupiah, manage income and expenses, and use digital financial services safely. Materials adapted to irregular income patterns and limited digital access among coastal communities were considered relevant to participants’ needs. This activity provided understanding of financial management and digital financial security, although improvement in participants’ knowledge could not yet be measured quantitatively. Future activities should employ pre-tests and post-tests to measure changes in participants’ understanding more systematically.

Abstract

Writing and storytelling activities require students to be able to identify, develop, and convey ideas in a structured and engaging manner. However, students may still experience difficulties in finding and developing ideas when learning activities use limited approaches. This activity introduced a coastal environment-based video as a stimulus for students’ writing and storytelling activities at SMP Negeri 004 Satu Atap Karimun. The activity was conducted on August 26, 2026, involving 40 students from Grades VII, VIII, and IX. The activities included a brief presentation on the coastal environment and plastic waste, a screening of the animated video “Jejak Plastik di Laut,” discussion and idea exploration, writing and storytelling activities, and the completion of a student response questionnaire. Data were collected through 20 questionnaire statements using a four-point Likert scale and five open-ended questions, and were analyzed descriptively through percentages and thematic grouping. The results showed predominantly positive student responses to the use of video as a learning stimulus, particularly in terms of visual appeal, relevance to the coastal environment, assistance in generating ideas, support for writing activities, and students’ perceived confidence in storytelling. This activity indicates that coastal environment-based video media can be introduced as a relevant and engaging stimulus for supporting students’ literacy activities.
