Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes of basic chemistry and the diversification of academic backgrounds of first-year students that hinder in-depth understanding of concepts. The problem focuses on testing the effect of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model integrated with the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach on student academic achievement. This quantitative study applies a quasi-experimental method using a pretest-posttest control group design in two study groups. The instrument used is an objective learning outcome test consisting of 20 validated multiple-choice questions. The results show that the average posttest score of the experimental class reached 77, while the control class only obtained a score of 61. This superiority is reinforced by the achievement of the N-gain index of the experimental group of 0.6 which exceeds the control class with an achievement of 0.4. Based on the inferential independent sample t-test using the SPSS program, a significance value of 0.000 was found to be less than 0.05, indicating a significant difference in achievement. The main conclusion of the study confirms that the application of the PjBL model with the STEM approach has proven to be much more effective in boosting student learning outcomes evenly compared to the conventional model. This interdisciplinary approach successfully facilitates students in constructing a meaningful understanding of stoichiometry through applied projects that connect mathematical calculations with real scientific phenomena in the laboratory. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya hasil belajar kimia dasar serta diversifikasi latar belakang akademik mahasiswa angkatan awal yang menghambat pemahaman konsep secara mendalam. Masalah difokuskan pada pengujian pengaruh model Project Based Learning (PjBL) terintegrasi pendekatan Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) terhadap capaian akademis mahasiswa. Studi kuantitatif ini menerapkan metode eksperimen semu menggunakan desain pretest-posttest control group pada dua kelompok belajar. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes hasil belajar objektif sebanyak 20 butir soal pilihan ganda yang telah tervalidasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai rata-rata posttest kelas eksperimen mencapai 77, sedangkan kelas kontrol hanya memperoleh skor 61. Keunggulan ini diperkuat oleh capaian indeks N-gain kelompok eksperimen sebesar 0,6 yang melampaui kelas kontrol dengan raihan 0,4. Berdasarkan uji inferensial independent sample t-test menggunakan bantuan program SPSS, ditemukan nilai signifikansi 0,000 kurang dari 0,05 yang menunjukkan adanya perbedaan capaian secara nyata. Simpulan utama penelitian menegaskan bahwa penerapan model PjBL dengan pendekatan STEM terbukti jauh lebih efektif dalam mendongkrak hasil belajar mahasiswa secara merata dibandingkan model konvensional. Pendekatan interdisipliner ini sukses memfasilitasi mahasiswa dalam mengonstruksi pemahaman stoikiometri secara bermakna lewat proyek aplikatif yang menghubungkan perhitungan matematis dengan fenomena sains riil di laboratorium.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of animation video-based learning media on students’ learning outcomes in macromolecule material and to identify students’ responses to the use of the media. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Pasarwajo in the 2025/2026 academic year using a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 29 students of class XII C as the experimental group and 28 students of class XII D as the control group selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included learning outcome tests and student response questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Mann-Whitney test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that the average learning outcome score of the experimental class was 89.14, which was higher than that of the control class at 60.71. The N-Gain analysis revealed that the experimental class obtained an average score of 0.52, categorized as moderately effective, while the control class obtained an average score of 0.24, categorized as ineffective. The Mann-Whitney test yielded an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the learning outcomes of the experimental and control groups. Furthermore, students’ responses to the use of animation video media were categorized as good to very good. Therefore, animation video-based learning media significantly improved students’ learning outcomes and can be used as an effective alternative learning medium for teaching macromolecule material.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of student misconceptions and identify the factors causing these misconceptions regarding the topic of thermochemistry students at SMA Negeri 7 Kendari. This descriptive study employed a quantitative approach, involving 32 students from class XI Merdeka 5, selected via purposive sampling. The research instruments consisted of a 25-item two-tier multiple-choice diagnostic test, a questionnaire on the causes of misconceptions, and interviews. Data were analyzed descriptively using percentages. The results indicate an average student learning outcome score of 57.38, with the majority of students failing to meet the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria. Diagnostic test results revealed the following average distribution: 14.00% understood the concepts, 40.20% held misconceptions, 15.27% guessed, and 10.47% did not understand the concepts. The highest rates of misconception were found regarding the indicators of enthalpy change properties and bond energy (45.00% each), while the lowest rate was associated with the system and surroundings indicator (23.75%). Questionnaire analysis showed that the causes of misconceptions stemmed from internal factors specifically cognitive aspects (55%), learning interest (60.31%), and learning motivation (61.25%) as well as external factors, including school-related elements (61%) and environmental factors (54.45%). In conclusion, the level of student misconception regarding thermochemistry falls into the moderate category and is influenced by both internal and external factors.
