Abstract

Female Muslim legislators have become increasingly visible in the political landscapes of several Muslim-majority countries, including Indonesia and Turkey, where shifting democratic norms and evolving interpretations of Islamic gender ethics shape women’s participation in governance. Despite expanded representation, questions remain regarding how these women influence gender-inclusive policymaking and how their political strategies differ across distinct socio-religious and institutional contexts. Understanding these dynamics is essential for analyzing the broader transformation of Muslim women’s political agency in contemporary Muslim democracies. This study aims to compare the roles, strategies, and policy impacts of female Muslim legislators in Indonesia and Turkey by examining how they navigate religious discourse, party structures, and political constraints while advocating for gender-inclusive reforms. The research seeks to identify convergences and divergences in their legislative behavior, institutional challenges, and use of Islamic arguments in political debates. A qualitative comparative political analysis was conducted using parliamentary documents, policy archives, and twenty semi-structured interviews with legislators, political advisors, and civil-society actors from both countries. The analysis employed thematic coding and cross-case comparison to evaluate how religious identity intersects with political participation and legislative outcomes. Findings reveal that Indonesian female Muslim legislators tend to mobilize pluralist Islamic narratives and civil-society alliances to strengthen gender advocacy, whereas their Turkish counterparts often navigate more centralized party systems and heightened ideological polarization. Both groups, however, strategically employ Islamic ethical frameworks to legitimize gender-inclusive policies. The study concludes that female Muslim legislators play a crucial role in transforming gender governance in Muslim-majority democracies, though the extent of their influence remains shaped by national political structures.

Abstract

Global food systems are facing increasing challenges arising from climate change, biodiversity loss, land degradation, resource depletion, and growing food demand. Conventional agricultural models have succeeded in enhancing productivity but have often generated environmental consequences that threaten long-term food security and ecological sustainability. Agroecology has emerged as a promising framework that applies ecological principles to agricultural production systems while promoting resilience, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable resource management. This study aims to examine the role of agroecology in strengthening food security and to identify strategies for integrating ecological principles into global agricultural systems. A qualitative research design based on a systematic literature review and thematic analysis was employed. Data were collected from peer-reviewed journal articles, international policy reports, institutional publications, and empirical studies published between 2010 and 2025. Findings indicate that agroecological practices contribute significantly to food security by improving soil fertility, enhancing biodiversity, increasing climate resilience, reducing dependence on external inputs, and strengthening local food systems. Community participation, knowledge integration, institutional support, and ecological diversification emerged as critical factors influencing successful implementation. Agroecological systems demonstrated greater adaptability to environmental and socio-economic disturbances compared with conventional agricultural approaches. The study concludes that integrating ecological principles into agricultural systems provides a viable pathway for achieving sustainable food security while simultaneously promoting environmental stewardship, agricultural resilience, and long-term sustainability within global food systems.

Abstract

Digital governance has become a central strategy in contemporary public administration, driven by rapid technological advancements and increasing demands for efficient, transparent, and citizen-centered services. The integration of digital technologies promises to transform public service delivery; however, the extent to which these transformations result in meaningful innovation remains contested. The study aims to examine how digital governance influences public service innovation and to identify the institutional and organizational challenges that shape its effectiveness. A mixed-methods research design was employed, combining survey data from 120 public sector professionals with qualitative analysis of interviews and policy documents. Quantitative analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative data were analyzed through thematic coding to capture contextual dynamics. The findings reveal that digital governance significantly improves operational efficiency but has limited impact on citizen engagement and participatory outcomes. Evidence indicates that organizational capacity, leadership, and institutional culture play critical roles in mediating innovation processes, often constraining the transformative potential of digital technologies. The study concludes that digital governance should be understood as a socio-technical process requiring alignment between technology, institutions, and citizen needs, offering important implications for policy development and administrative reform.

Abstract

Bone tissue engineering seeks to develop biomaterial scaffolds that can replicate the complex hierarchical structure and biological functionality of native bone extracellular matrix. Conventional bone substitutes often fail to simultaneously achieve sufficient mechanical strength, osteoconductivity, and biological integration, limiting their effectiveness in repairing critical-sized bone defects. This study aims to develop a collagen–nanofiber composite scaffold functionalized through biomimetic mineralization of hydroxyapatite to enhance its suitability for bone tissue engineering applications. An experimental biomaterials approach was employed, involving fabrication of collagen nanofiber scaffolds followed by controlled biomimetic mineralization in simulated physiological conditions. The resulting scaffolds were characterized for morphology, mineral composition, crystallinity, and mechanical properties, and subsequently evaluated in vitro using osteogenic cell models to assess cell adhesion, proliferation, differentiation, and matrix mineralization. The mineralized scaffolds exhibited uniform nanoscale hydroxyapatite deposition, physiologically relevant Ca/P ratios, and significantly enhanced mechanical stiffness compared to non-mineralized controls. Biological assays demonstrated improved osteogenic cell attachment, elevated alkaline phosphatase activity, and increased calcium deposition on mineralized scaffolds. These findings indicate that biomimetic mineralization effectively integrates inorganic and organic phases to produce a scaffold that closely mimics native bone structure and function. In conclusion, collagen–nanofiber scaffolds mineralized with hydroxyapatite using a biomimetic approach represent a promising platform for bone tissue engineering and warrant further in vivo investigation.

Abstract

The widespread adoption of Islamic prayer applications has introduced new forms of digital piety in which acts of worship become increasingly structured, quantified, and mediated through mobile technologies. The rise of these apps reflects broader cultural shifts toward datafication, self-tracking, and algorithmically guided religious practice. While prayer apps offer convenience, reminders, and personalized worship analytics, concerns have emerged regarding overreliance on digital tools, potential erosion of spiritual intentionality, and the implications of data extraction for user privacy. These dynamics highlight the need to critically examine how quantified self technologies shape Muslim devotional life. This study aims to analyze the influence of Islamic prayer apps on daily worship by investigating how datafication, algorithmic nudges, and quantified worship metrics affect users’ spiritual habits and perceptions of religious discipline. The research seeks to explore both the empowering and constraining effects of digital piety on contemporary Muslim practice. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a quantitative survey of 268 Muslim prayer app users with qualitative interviews involving twenty participants who regularly engage with worship-tracking features. Document analysis of popular prayer apps was also conducted to examine interface design, tracking mechanisms, and data-collection practices. Findings reveal that prayer apps significantly increase worship consistency, particularly in maintaining prayer schedules and tracking missed prayers. However, the quantification of worship introduces psychological dependence on reminders and metrics, shifting spiritual motivation from intrinsic intentionality to external digital cues. The study concludes that while prayer apps enhance ritual discipline, they also reshape devotional experiences through datafication, necessitating ethical reflection on privacy, autonomy, and the meaning of worship in a digital age.

Abstract

The process of labor is often accompanied by physical discomfort and emotional stress, which can influence its progression and the overall experience of childbirth. Birth ball exercises and spousal support have been identified as effective interventions to alleviate labor-related discomfort and anxiety. However, the combined effect of these interventions remains underexplored, particularly in the Indonesian context. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of combining birth ball exercises and spousal support on labor progression and maternal anxiety during the first stage of labor in Balikpapan. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach was used, involving 60 first-time mothers who were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (birth ball exercises and spousal support) or a control group (standard care). Data on cervical dilation, contraction frequency, and labor duration were collected, alongside anxiety levels measured by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The results indicated that the experimental group experienced faster labor progression and significantly lower anxiety levels compared to the control group. The study concluded that combining birth ball exercises with spousal support can effectively improve labor outcomes and reduce maternal anxiety. These findings suggest the integration of these interventions into routine prenatal care to enhance maternal well-being and labor efficiency.

Abstract

Background. The integrity and equity of assessment in hybrid learning environments have been increasingly challenged by issues of transparency, bias, and centralized control. Traditional peer review systems often lack traceability and accountability, leading to concerns about the fairness and credibility of formative feedback. Purpose. This study explores the application of blockchain technology as a decentralized infrastructure for peer review and e-assessment in hybrid learning contexts. The research aims to evaluate how blockchain-based systems can enhance feedback transparency, reviewer accountability, and student trust in digital assessment processes. Method. Employing a design-based research methodology, a prototype blockchain-enabled peer assessment platform was developed and tested with 92 university students across two hybrid courses. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through platform analytics, student surveys, and focus group discussions. Results. The results demonstrate that blockchain-based systems can serve not only as secure ledgers but also as ethical architectures for equitable formative assessment Conclusion. The study concludes that blockchain offers a viable mechanism for building equitable, transparent, and tamper-resistant assessment systems in hybrid learning. The research contributes to the growing field of educational technology by introducing a scalable model for decentralized e-assessment.
