Abstract

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of elementary school students' critical thinking skills in Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning. Therefore, an innovative learning model is needed to actively engage students in the learning process. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Canva learning videos on the critical thinking skills of fourth-grade elementary school students. The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental method with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The participants consisted of 22 fourth-grade students at SDN Sindangkasih selected through saturated sampling. The research instruments included an essay test to measure students' critical thinking skills and an observation sheet to assess the implementation of the learning process. Data were collected through tests and observations and analyzed using descriptive statistics, N-Gain analysis, normality and homogeneity tests, paired sample t-test, and simple linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Canva learning videos significantly improved students' critical thinking skills, as indicated by higher posttest scores compared to pretest scores. The statistical analysis also confirmed a significant effect of the learning model on students' critical thinking skills. Therefore, the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Canva learning videos can be considered an effective instructional alternative for enhancing elementary school students' critical thinking skills in IPAS learning.
