Abstract

This article examines the historical traces and epistemological relevance of Francis Bacon’s foundational concept, “knowledge is power”, to the development of Social Sciences. This study adresses need to understand the philosophical roots of modern social inquiry and its implications for contemporary educational practice. This research uses a qualitative approach with a historical and philosophical literature study method. The data sources consist of Francis Bacon's major works, including The Advancement of Learning, Novum Organum, and The New Atlantis. Data analysis was utilized using content analysis techniques with stages of data reduction, concept grouping, and theoretical synthesis. The results demonstrate that Bacon’s thought about knowledge established a critical framework emphasizing empiricism, inductive reasoning, and the systematic deconstruction of cognitive biases. which significantly contributed to the formation of social studies methodology through the use of empirical data and a problem-solving orientation. Ultimately, these findings confirm that Bacon’s epistemology remains highly relevant in the 21st century, particularly in fostering inquiry-based learning, problem-based learning, and critical literacy to develop students who are analytical, reflective, and capable of navigating complex social dynamics.

Abstract

Abstract

The digital era brings new challenges and opportunities in education, especially in character development and digital literacy of students. This study aims to determine the level of digital literacy of students of Social Studies Education Study Program in Islamic Universities and analyze its influence on students' character development in the digital era. The results of the study show that the level of digital literacy of students is still classified as low to moderate. Although some students have used technology for academic needs, only a small number are able to optimally integrate technology in the learning process and character development. Factors that influence low digital literacy include limited access to digital devices and the Internet, as well as limited understanding of how to use technology effectively. This study highlights the importance of integrating digital literacy into the curriculum, teacher training, and institutional support to create digitally literate students with strong character. The implications of these findings provide a basis for developing strategies to strengthen digital literacy based on character education in Islamic higher education

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the socioeconomic dynamics of the community in Sungai Aur District, West Pasaman Regency, from a historical perspective. A qualitative research method was employed, utilizing interviews, observation and documentation. The findings indicate that in the initial stages of the transmigration program, the community received agricultural land for cultivation to improve economic well-being. However, many residents planted oil palm without adequate knowledge, influenced by the economic success of surrounding areas. Recognizing the geographical unsuitability, some community leaders encouraged the cultivation of more appropriate crops like coffee. Conversely, a portion of the community chose to sell their land to newcomers, thereby losing their primary assets and transitioning to agricultural laborers. This highlights the importance of land management strategies and human resource capacity building in supporting the success of transmigration programs.
