Abstract

Stroke is the second leading cause of death and the third leading cause of disability worldwide. Patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) have a 1.8 times higher risk of recurrent stroke in men and 2.2 times higher in women. Based on data from Puskesmas Martapura Barat in 2025, this area recorded a high prevalence of DM, with most patients experiencing hypertension as a comorbidity. However, no prior education on stroke emergencies had been conducted. This condition may increase the risk of disability and mortality due to delays in stroke management. Therefore, educational and health empowerment–based interventions are needed. This Community Service Program aimed to improve the knowledge of DM patients regarding stroke emergency management through structured health education using posters and banners as educational media. The program was conducted in the working area of Puskesmas Martapura Barat, Banjar Regency, in May 2026, involving 30 DM patients as participants. The methods included a pretest, interactive health education sessions using PowerPoint presentations, posters, and banners, early stroke detection simulations using the SEGERA method, and a posttest. The effectiveness of the program was evaluated through improvements in pretest and posttest scores, which were analyzed descriptively. The results demonstrated a significant increase in participants’ understanding, with the mean pretest score improving from 58.4 to 85.6 in the posttest, representing a 46.6% increase. All DM patients were declared competent in performing early stroke detection simulations. This program is expected to promote a stroke-responsive community through continuous educational approaches and the empowerment of local community potential.

Abstract

Hypertension is a risk factor for stroke. One way to prevent stroke complications is to empower hypertensive patients to independently learn about early stroke detection through health education, so that there are changes in their knowledge, attitudes, and actions towards early stroke detection, which is expected to minimize the negative impact of stroke. The purpose of this study was to analyze the behavior of Early Stroke Detection in Hypertensive patients participating in Prolanis at Sungai Besar Community Health Center. The research design was a descriptive study with a Cross Sectional approach, with the population being all Hypertensive patients participating in Prolanis at Sungai Besar Community Health Center, Banjarbaru City. A sample of 30 people was taken during April 2025 using the Accidental Sampling technique. To analyze the behavior of Early Stroke Detection in hypertensive patients, there are three domains measured, namely knowledge, attitudes, and actions of hypertensive patients, which were measured using a questionnaire, and processed descriptively. Based on the 3 (three) behavioral domains, it can be concluded that although the level of knowledge of Early Stroke Detection is still lacking, it is supported by the dominance of positive attitudes and actions, encouraging the majority of Hypertensive patients to have good

Naning Kisworo Utami., M.Kes, Mentor (2) Meggy Wulandari Kai, S. Tr.Kep, M.Tr.Kep xiv + 64 pages; 14 table; 9 pictures; 16 attachment Indonesians are still facing serious dental and oral health problems. According to data from the Indonesian Dental Association (PTGI) in 2022, around 70% of Indonesian people experience tooth decay. Research published in the International Journal of Clinical Dentistry and Wellness highlights that hypertensive patients who take antihypertensive drugs experience various oral health problems, such as dry mouth, taste changes, halitosis, bleeding gums, and mucosal lesions. This side effect can worsen the oral health condition of hypertensive patients. This study aims to determine the effect of tooth mousse application on salivary pH in hypertensive patients at Banjarbaru Selatan Community Health Center, Banjarbaru City. This research used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest and posttest design. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique, with a total of 33 participants. Data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test statistical test. The results showed that the mean salivary pH before the application of tooth mousse was 5.912 and increased to 6.539 after the application. The result of the Paired Sample T-Test showed a p-value of 0.000 < α = 0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, tooth mousse application had a significant effect on salivary pH in hypertensive patients at Banjarbaru Selatan Community Health Center. It is recommended that health professionals, especially in the field of oral health, conduct promotive and preventive efforts such as educating the public on the use of tooth mousse to maintain salivary pH balance and prevent dental caries, particularly in high-risk groups such as hypertensive patients.
