Abstract

Tidal inundation recurs at least twice annually in West Aceh Regency, yet Pasar Aceh Village previously had no Early Warning System (EWS), leaving residents unprepared for recurring flood damage. This community service program, conducted from August to November 2025 with 20 participants, implemented an integrated EWS through four activities: disaster mitigation socialization, EWS training, device installation, and simulation exercises. The program produced an EWS device, a disaster mitigation module, a web-based monitoring system, and a siren alert system. Community competence was evaluated using pre-test and post-test assessments, showing a significant increase in mean scores from 39.7 to 92.0 (a gain of 52.3 points). The installed EWS successfully delivered early warnings prior to flood events, strengthening community coordination and village disaster readiness while improving residents' sense of security in daily activities. These findings confirm that a technology-based community empowerment approach effectively enhances local resilience to tidal inundation, offering a replicable model for similar coastal disaster-prone areas.

Abstract

Character education remains a central concern in primary education because schools are expected not only to develop students' academic competence but also to cultivate responsibility, respect, honesty, cooperation, and environmental care. However, character education is often delivered through moral instruction, classroom rules, and abstract values that are weakly connected to students' cultural experiences. Local culture-based learning materials offer an alternative by embedding character values in familiar stories, traditions, community practices, local wisdom, and contextual classroom activities. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of local culture-based learning materials in strengthening students' character education in primary schools and to explore how students experience character learning through culturally relevant materials. The study employed a mixed-method design using a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group approach supported by classroom observations, teacher interviews, student interviews, and document analysis. The participants were 96 fifth-grade students divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group used local culture-based learning materials for eight weeks, while the control group received conventional character education materials. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired-sample t-tests, independent-sample t-tests, normalized gain scores, and effect size analysis. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The findings showed that local culture-based learning materials significantly improved students' character education outcomes. Qualitative findings revealed that the materials strengthened character learning through cultural familiarity, moral reflection, role modelling, collaborative activities, and contextual value application. The study concludes that local culture-based learning materials can strengthen character education when values are embedded in meaningful cultural narratives and classroom practices.

Abstract

The role of instructional media is crucial in supporting the success of the teaching-learning process, especially in Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) which requires contextual and multi-sensory approaches. However, fieldwork still finds constraints such as a lack of student enthusiasm and minimal media variation, leading to low interest and creativity. This study aims to describe the utilization of PowerPoint media in IPAS learning for fourth grade students at SD Negeri Ujong Fatihah and to analyze its effect on increasing student interest and creativity. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects consisted of the IPAS teacher and fourth-grade students, with data collection techniques including participatory observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. The results show that PowerPoint media was optimally utilized by the teacher in structuring and presenting the material sequentially, attractively, and in accordance with learning objectives. The use of PowerPoint made the learning process more interactive through varied visual and audio displays. This positively impacted the increase in student interest in following the learning, as well as encouraging the development of student creativity. Thus, the utilization of PowerPoint media is proven effective in enhancing the quality of IPAS learning in fourth grade at SD Negeri Ujong Fatihah.

Abstract

An inventory of macroalgae species is crucial for coastal resource development. Macroalgae are known to have several advantages or benefits as raw materials for health, food, and cosmetics. However, the potential of local macroalgae on Lhok Bubon Beach has not been well-published. This descriptive qualitative study aims to identify various macroalgae species found in Lhok Bubon coastal waters. The method used was road sampling. The study population consisted of various macroalgae species found in Lhok Bubon coastal waters, while the study sample consisted of all macroalgae species found within the exploration area. Macroalgae identification was conducted at the Integrated Science Laboratory of Cipta Mandiri University. The identification key from Bold & Michael (1985) was used to determine the names of macroalgae species. The types of macroalgae found on Lhok Bubon Beach include Sargasum sp., Padina australis, Chatomorpha sp., Sargasum natans, Halymenia darvillei, Dictyopteris delicatuta, Gracilaria salicornia, and Boergesenia forbesi. There are two types of macroalgae substrates on Lhok Bubon Beach: sandy and coral rock.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the level of understanding ofdifferentiated teachers in the preparation of teaching modules at SMA 3 Negeri Seunagan. This research was conducted from May to October 2024 at SMA Negeri 3 Seunagan with theobject of all SMA N 3 Seunagan teachers. The reason researchers chose this school is that oneof the high schools in Nagan Raya Regency has superior accreditation and has implemented an independent learning curriculum. The focus of this research is to get an overview of theteacher's ability to develop differentiated teaching modules. The method used in this researchis a qualitative method. This method is intended to understand the phenomenon of what isexperienced by the research subject such as behavior, perception, motivation, action, andothers holistically and by means of descriptions in the form of words and language, in aspecial natural context by utilizing various natural methods (Moleong, 2017). Qualitativeresearch according to Hendryadi, et. al, (2019) is a naturalistic inquiry process that seeks adeep understanding of social phenomena in a natural way. The data analysis techniques usedare reducing data, selecting data, describing data, presenting data, and concluding data.Reducing data is, “Activities summarize, select key things, focus on important things, look forthemes and patterns and discard unnecessary ones” (Sugiyono, 2009: 338). The final stage isto make conclusions from the data that has been described. The stage of analyzing data is themost important stage because this is to give meaning to the data that has been collected. Fromthe results of the interview, it can be obtained that before and after the Technical Guidancewas carried out, it can be seen that the improvement of teachers about differentiation andpreparation of teaching modules is better or more understanding. Although there are severalindicators of questions that teachers still cannot answer. But in general, technical guidance inimproving understanding of the preparation of differentiated teaching modules has beensuccessful.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the development of teachers' competencies in implementing differentiated instruction in five high schools in Nagan Raya and West Aceh, involving 15 teachers with diverse teaching experience backgrounds. The findings indicate that 70% of the teachers understand the importance of differentiated instruction; however, only 45% feel confident in their ability to apply it effectively. Classroom observations revealed that only 50% of the teachers consistently use this strategy, while 80% reported having attended training, but only 40% felt they benefited from it. Major barriers included a lack of resources, learning aids, and the rigidity of the curriculum. Although most students reported feeling more motivated when this approach was implemented, challenges remain regarding the consistency of its application. Recommendations to enhance teachers' competencies include evaluating training programs, providing management support, and fostering collaboration among teachers. The results of this study emphasize the need for an integrated approach to maximize the effectiveness of differentiated instruction in the era of Industry 5.0.
