Abstract

Code-mixing is a common linguistic phenomenon in popular music, particularly in Japanese-language songs performed by Korean pop (K-Pop) artists, whose blending of Japanese and English lyrics reflects globalized and multicultural communication strategies. This study aims to identify and describe the types and functions of code-mixing found in the lyrics of TWICE's Japanese song Fanfare, focusing on the linguistic form as well as the pragmatic function of the code-mixed elements within the lyrics. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using Muysken's (2000) theory of code-mixing types and Appel & Muysken's (2005) theory of code-mixing functions; the data, obtained from the song's official lyrics published on Spotify and Genius, were collected through a note-taking observation method and analyzed through identification, classification, and functional analysis, with Japanese established as the matrix language. The findings revealed 17 instances of code-mixing, consisting of seven insertion-type and ten alternation-type occurrences, while no instances of congruent lexicalization were identified due to the structural differences between Japanese and English. Furthermore, 27 occurrences of code-mixing functions were found, comprising expressive (11), directive (7), phatic (4), poetic (4), and referential (1) functions. The expressive function was the most dominant, indicating that code-mixing in Fanfare primarily serves to express feelings and emotions in conveying the song's motivational message. These findings confirm that code-mixing in song lyrics is not a coincidental form of language variation but a deliberate, functional linguistic strategy that strengthens meaning and communicative appeal.

This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with the subject of Japanese language teachers in class XI Language. Data were obtained through observation twice, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that teachers have applied four indicators of responsiveness, namely looking closely, approaching, asking questions, and reacting to disturbances and chaos at each stage of Jugyou Nagare. These applications help create a conducive learning atmosphere and maintain student involvement. The obstacles faced include differences in students' abilities, difficulties in maintaining focus and attention, students who chat or do not participate less, and the condition of students who are tired of afternoon learning. Teachers overcome these obstacles through reprimands, questions, eye contact, approaching students, and providing guidance and explanations.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is one of the important aspects of learning Japanese because it is the basis for students to understand and use language in various communication contexts. However, based on the results of observations and interviews in class XI PH 6 SMKN 1 Tegallalang, vocabulary learning still faces obstacles in terms of understanding and remembering vocabulary as well as the limitations of the variety of learning media used. This study aims to develop E-Card media for learning Japanese vocabulary and describe the feasibility level of the developed media. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model which consists of five stages, namely analyze, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data was obtained through observation, interviews, validation of material experts, validation of media experts, and questionnaires of teacher and student responses. The product trial involved seven students in grade XI PH 6 SMKN 1 Tegallalang and one Japanese teacher. The data was analyzed descriptively by calculating the percentage of the eligibility score. The results showed that the media obtained a score of 96 from material experts, 88 from media experts, 96.92 from teacher responses, and 90.24 from student responses, all of which were in the very feasible category. Thus, the E-Card media developed was stated to be very feasible as an alternative media in learning Japanese vocabulary. This research produced digital paired card media that can be accessed through digital devices and equipped with exercises to support vocabulary learning.
